BRIDES and grooms want their big day tobe special for them and their guests.

One way to make it special is to servegood wine. Most people taste and select thefood and the cake for a wedding, so whyshould it not be the same with the wine?

Before you start shopping for wine, youneed to check with the venue where yourreception will be held and make sure theyallow alcohol on the premises.

If so, the number and types of wineavailable will depend upon where you live.

When selecting wine for your reception, you need to take several factors into con-sideration, including the preferences ofyour guests, the time and length of yourreception, the type of food served, andmost importantly, your budget.

The guests you invite to your receptionwill play an important part in your deci-sion.

How many actually drink wine? Do they enjoy drinking a glass or two,

or do they just sip enough to be social? Do they prefer red, white or dessert

wine? Would most of them be happier with

beer? Would they care if you didn’t serve any

wine? Answering these questions will giveyou some idea as to what kind of and howmuch wine to order.

The time of year and day you are havingthe reception can also influence the wineyou serve. In the summer at an outdoorreception, you will want to keep guestscool and serve lighter, refreshing wine.

In the winter, you will want to keep

guests warm and serve red wines instead ofwhite.

People are likely to drink less in theafternoon, so if you are having an after-noon wedding, you may need less wine.

Are you serving chicken, beef or fish atyour reception?

The wine and food should go together. You have enough things to spend money

on at your wedding. Don’t go overboard with the wine. Negotiate with your caterer or supplier

to get the best deal you can and find out

what kind of package deals they offer. If you are planning to use an outside

wine supplier, look for one that will giveyou a good deal and allow you to returnunopened bottles.

There is no sure way to determine howmuch wine you will need.

The average bottle provides four to sixglasses, and you will probably need half abottle per guest.

Chances are you will not use all of thewine, so don’t let waiters open all of thebottles at the start of the reception.

IT TAKES a lot of effort tolook, well, effortlessly beauti-ful.

Choosing the perfect wed-ding outfit might seem a daunt-ing task at first.

Some brides have spentyears dreaming of the day theywill walk down the aisle andalready know what their dreamdress will be like.

For others it is a matter oflooking through bridal booksfor inspiration and visitingbridal salons and designers.

Every bride is after the wowfactor that commands attentionand is memorable for the rightreasons.

The wedding gown shouldbe the first thing you buy fol-lowed by other accessories cho-sen to coordinate and comple-ment the gown.

When shopping for yourwedding gown you might wantto take someone along for a sec-ond opinion, but remember that

it’s your dress and what you likethat counts.

While it helps to have an ideaof what you’re looking for in agown, don’t be afraid to try ondifferent styles.

Many brides have set ideasof what they want but often endup with something differentfrom their original thoughts.

If you want somethingunique, head to a bridal special-ist who will design a gown ofyour dreams.

The headpiece and veilshould be chosen to comple-ment the style of the weddinggown.

Although the popularity ofveils comes and goes there areseveral veil lengths from whichto choose.

An elbow length veil is usu-ally worn with shorter gowns.

A fingertip veil falls to thebride’s fingertips and can beworn in a semi formal or formalwedding, a chapel veil falls to

the floor, while a cathedrallength veil trails the floor and isgenerally worn in formal wed-dings.

Headpieces come in manydifferent styles to suit a bride’staste.

Wedding shoes come in avariety of styles and fabrics.

Some are elegantly simplewhile others are adorned withlace, ribbons, pearls or tinyrosettes.

They can be flats, boots, stilettos - even wedding sneak-ers are available.

The wedding shoes shouldbe selected early and worn to allwedding gown fittings.

This is especially importantfor getting the hem just right.

Not only are shoes an impor-tant component of a bride’soverall look, but they play avital role in your comfort on thewedding day.

Uncomfortable weddingshoes can make you miserable,

and it’s hard to dance the nightaway on aching, blistered feet.

Jewellery is often used tofulfill part of the tradition ofwearing “something old, some-thing new, something borrowedand something blue” on thewedding day.

When choosing earrings, trythem on with your veil to becertain they will complementone another.

For contemporary gowns, gofor a bolder jewellery look butfor a traditional wedding gown, wear classic jewellery such asgold, pearls and diamonds.

Finally, try on any girdles, bras and underpants with thewedding dress ahead of time tomake sure there are no unsight-ly lines showing or straps peek-ing out.

Underwear should enhanceyour overall look, not detractfrom it.

Plan ahead forthe perfect outfit

THE Ferguson Valley is changing. It used to be a sleepy dairy area,

where life was regulated by the milk-ing of cows and the needs of thefarm. Now it is the next ‘it’ place.

With two breweries, more than 12wineries, galleries, mountain biketrails and a national park, it hassomething for everyone.

Life is now regulated with a glassof wine and the laughter of friends.

St Aidan’s Winery, HackersleyWinery, Ferguson Farmstay andWellington Forest Cottages andConference Centre will host a varietyof wedding suppliers on August 25from 10am to 3pm, so soon-to-be-brides can see what the valley has tooffer them for their wedding day.

“One of the things we have seen

over the last three years is theincrease of weddings in the area,”Ferguson Valley Wedding Expo co-ordinator Wendy Perdon said.

There are wineries, old churches, spectacular views over Bunbury andbeautiful bush settings.

“Unlike other wedding expos, thiswill not be a ‘bride crush’ with hun-dereds of people in one ball room,”Mrs Perdon said. “This is a relaxedtour of the valley and the venues.Getting married in the FergusonValley is a relaxed and fun affair, soour expo will reflect the same.

For more information on theFerguson Valley Wedding Expo call9728 3043, check out the web sitewww.fergusonvalleyweddingexpo.com.au.

Wedding expo the placeto be for plenty of ideas

Set up perfect receptionPLANNING a wedding recep-tion involves a lot of work but itdoes not have to be overwhelm-ing.

First, determine the locationfor the reception.

Although having it at thesame place as the ceremony willmake things easier, you canchoose to have it elsewhere.

Popular choices includehotels, restaurants, residences, clubs or museums.

Remember, whatever loca-tion you choose will set the tonefor the reception.

After selecting a location, check into the fees and makesure they will fit into your budg-et.

At some locations, a flat feewill cover everything, includingfood and parking.

At others, all it will cover isthe site rental and you will haveto work with other companiesor suppliers to get what youneed.

Keep track of what eachcompany will provide and whatyou’ll be charged.

The next question is food. Do you want appetisers or a

full meal? Budget is a factor, soknow the number of people

you’ll be feeding before youcall for menus and prices.

Find out if plates, glassesand silverware are included in

the price, and if not, what thecost for those will be.

If they’re not, ask your cater-er to suggest other suppliers.

With food comes beverages. Be sure to include the cost of

alcohol, including bartendersand any wait staff.
