ISSUE #10 1st April 2015
HAPPY EASTER!
My son, who is in Prep, loves paper
planes. Whenever he comes across a
crisp piece of paper he asks me to
make it into a paper plane for him. He
throws it until it is destroyed and then
asks for another to be made.
However, recently he asked me if
“today was the best day of my life?” I
said that sadly it wasn’t but he replied
that it should be because today he
worked out how to make a paper
plane himself. The world had just
changed for him!
Easter is also a turning point in the
year – a time where things change.
You head off for the Easter break and
come back and the weather is all of a
sudden much cooler and we have had
to change our wardrobe, the cricket
season has finished and the football
season has begun and we have had
to join the gym to lose all the
kilograms we gained eating chocolate
and hot cross buns. They are only
separated by a couple of weeks but
term two always seems so different to
term one!
The events of Easter changed forever
the way that God interacts with his
people. Jesus did what he had always
promised to do – he reconciled us to
God. Through his actions Jesus
enables us to be in relationship with
God again and allows God’s grace to
again be available to us. He showed
that life is greater than death and that
nothing we have done is beyond the
power of his grace. The song says
that at Christmas Santa Claus has a
list which he checks twice to see who
has been naughty or nice. I don’t
know if the Easter Bunny has a
behavioural checklist for us that we
need to pass but that is not why Jesus
came. The Bible says that “God didn’t
go to all the trouble of sending his Son
merely to point an accusing finger,
telling the world how bad it was. He
came to help, to put the world right
again.” John 3:17 (MSG)
I hope that you find this Easter to be
a time of rest, relaxation and fun. I
pray that you will have a lovely time
with family and friends and enjoy
some chocolate. Happy Easter!

SCHOOL BASED TRAINEESHIPS AVAILABLE
School-based apprenticeships and traineeships are commonly called SATs. They allow secondary school students,
in years 10, 11 and occasionally year 12, to work for a business as paid employees – all whilst studying for their QCE
and or OP. Students completing their SAT gain a Nationally Recognised Certificate and points toward their QCE.
When SATs become available they are usually filled very quickly. The most difficult part is finding an employer to
take on a school based trainee/apprentice as it costs the employer time and money to train the student.
The student spends one day each week with their employer during school time and usually more than one day
during school holidays. They must complete a minimum 50 x 7½ hour days each year on the job, this does not
include theory. They must make up time missed during exams, excursions, and any other mandatory school event,
during school holidays. Students are paid a training wage by their employer for the time spent at work however they
are not paid for theory time, sick days, or holidays.
Although most students drop a subject when they take on a SAT it is not compulsory. Dropping a subject allows the
student to catch up on lessons missed during their day with the employer. They may also work on the theory for their
SAT in these periods which will show on their timetable as Voc. Ed. A SAT is not an easy option, it requires
dedication and persistence however it can be a pathway for students into their chosen career.
All SATS must be authorised by the school which can also cancel a SAT if the student is not keeping up with his/her
school studies.
For further information contact Mrs Cole - [email protected] or phone: 3897 2719.
