The demonstration on rebuilding the Pop Out was given by Mr. Marvin (Rusty) Swain. Rusty took an old Pop Out, belonging to another club member, Mr. Harry Meyers, that had burned out years ago and from start to finish com- pletely rebuilt the switch in approximately twenty minutes. After watching the demonstration there is no guarantee that you will be able to rebuild a Pop Out switch as fast and as efficiently as Rusty did, but you will be able to build one and know the proper tools and materials needed for the job. Tiny Tips: Removal of a Two-Piece Distributor Shaft The shaft that runs from the upper shaft to the oil pump drive gear can be hard to remove from the hole in the head down into the block. What works well, if the shaft is not rusted or frozen in, is to take two six-inch blade screw drivers and insert them into the slot in the shaft. Turn the screwdrivers opposite directions to create a wedge and lift the shaft out of the hole. It is quick, easy and no need to buy that ultra long needle-nose pair of pliers. Model A Carburetors Bob Bordwine

The topic of the presentation by Bob Bordwine during the April meeting was the various carburetors used on the Model A. The carburetor that equipped the Model A was the Zen-ith. The Zenith Detroit Company of Detroit Michigan was founded in 1911. The carburetor was manufactured by the Zenith-Detroit Corporation, Holly Corporation, and Ford Motor Corporation, for use on Model A Ford vehicles produced in the United States and Canada. Zenith manufactured the carburetors for Ford from about August of 1927 through 1931. All of their top castings were marked with a "Z" just below the throttle. The bottom castings were marked on the front of the bowl area with "Zenith" from the beginning through 1928 and with "Zenith-1" from 1929 through the end of production. Holly manufactured the carburetors for Ford from about August of 1927 through 1931. Their upper castings were marked with "H" from the beginning until about September of 1928. Thereafter, they were not marked. The bottom castings were marked with "H" from the beginning to about June of 1928. From about July through December of 1928 they were not marked and from January 1929 until the end they were marked "Zenith-2". Ford manufactured carburetors from 1930 through the

end. For a while the upper castings were marked with "3", but it was soon dropped. The bottom castings were marked "Zenith-3". Tillotson Manufacturing Company was founded in 1914 in Toledo, Ohio. The Tillotson square bowl up-draft carburetor was first built in the 1950’s. This car-buretor uses an air bleed style main jet that was invent-ed by Stromberg in 1914 and is still in use today. The Tillotson carburetor is a direct replacement for the Zen-ith. This carburetor is made from a Zinc Aluminum al-loy sometimes referred to as “pot metal”. It doesn’t rust but can warp with heat.

Sooner Model A and Early V8 Picnic

The Early V8 club invited the Sooner Model A club to join them at Ripper Park in Bethany for a picnic May 13. The Early V8 club supplied the dogs, fixings, and drinks. Participants brought side dishes and deserts. The food was delicious and plentiful. Several Sooners were present including the Davis’, the Morris’, the Talleys, the Dusenberys, Carma Jenkins, the Astafans, Jack Ogle, the Mitchells, the Hoyles, Michael Downes, and the Yates’. Apologies to any persons not mentioned. The Dusenberys were late because of a separated tire. Chuck said he heard noise from the right rear wheel and discovered that a 6 inch piece of tread had come loose. The spare tire on Chuck’s car is fender mounted so its pressure was low. The Dusenberys stopped at Phil Wolf-enbarger’s shop to inflate the spare when on the way home. This was the first time that I have seen the perfectly restored cars of the V8 club. It brought back memories of the cars I grew up with in the 50’s. I especially liked the 1950 Fords. Here are some photos of the picnic.

Sooner Model A’ers in the Movies.

While eating lunch after the 89er day parade, April 22, Will Langford got a text asking if he could get 3 cars for a movie shoot here in town the next day. In the booth at Braums in Guthrie were Chuck Dusen-bery, Don Mitchell, Steve Talley and Carla Newton and they all agreed to participate. Here are a few shots from their movie experience that evening. It was a lot of waiting but the movie folks took good care of them. The fact that it is based on a comic book series written here in OKC gave it all a more local flavor. http://www.ra-pictures.com/thegrave/.
