SCRIPTURE INSIGHTS FOR THE TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Earlier in the Gospel according to Matthew, when Jesus taught the Our Father, he emphasized forgiveness, saying, “(I)f you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your transgressions” (Matthew 6:15). These are strong words, which imply that our own forgiveness is dependent on our willingness to forgive others. Today’s parable of the unmerciful servant illustrates this point with a story of someone who refused to forgive, and his forgiveness was taken away. Clearly this is an analogy in which the master represents God, and the servants represent people like us, who are supposed to treat each other the way God treats us—with for-giveness. The First Reading puts it well: “Could anyone nourish anger against another and expect healing from the Lord?” God has forgiven us of so much, and God is willing to keep on forgiving us– but if we will not forgive others we are throwing God’s gift of forgiveness back in his face. The refusal to forgive is itself a sin that needs forgiveness. When we refuse to forgive, we cut ourselves off from God’s forgiveness. When we are hurt by someone, we may need a little time to take stock of our feelings, but ultimately it is most helpful to take a position of humility-a position that refuses to judge, refuses to adopt a self-righteous atti-tude, and refuses to hold a grudge. A grudge is like toxic waste; it only hurts the one who holds it. So how many times should we forgive the person who wrongs us? When Jesus says seventy-seven times, he really means stop counting. Forgive as many times as it takes.

Please join the 2020 Public Square Rosary Crusade. Our nation is in great need of public prayer, repentance & conversion. We ask God to save America through the Rosary of His Most Holy Mother. Please join us in praying for our nation on October 10, 2020 at 12:00 Noon. The local Public Square Rosary Rally will take place at St. Matthew’s, Saltsburg. Please contact Elvia Eckenrode at 724-639-9410 for more information.

This report did not include additional Parish and Diocesan collections or DLA donations. Please note in all three parishes, 20 - 40% of the parish is giving less than $2.00 a week or NOTHING AT ALL. We all need to support our parishes and we all need to practice good Stewardship. This would be why the parishes have had a hard time paying ordinary expenses & saving money for the future. Some people have been giving the same amount for years without considering increasing their donation. The Diocese has asked each parish to promote Parish Stewardship this Fall.

MATTERS OF SEXUAL MISCONDUCT INFORMATION If you have any suspicion about the sexual abuse (or any other type of abuse) of a minor child by anyone - please contact PA ChildLine immediately at 1-800-932-0313. If the alleged abuser is functioning in a parish, school or diocesan position as clergy, religious, paid staff or volunteer you are also requested to contact the Bishop’s Delegate for Matters of Sexual Misconduct after you have called the ChildLine number and made the report. The Bishop’s Delegate may be reached at 724-837-0901, ext. 1221. In its commitment to protect our children and vulnerable adults, the Diocese of Greensburg requires every parish to put this announcement in the bulletin on a monthly basis.
