The City of Northlake has secured fundingfor resurfacing of South Roy and SouthRoberta from North Avenue to Soffel
Avenue. The work will involve grinding off theexisting surface, resurfacing, drainage structurereplacement, curb and gutter removal andreplacement and sidewalk replacement wherenecessary.
The work is scheduled to begin in April andshould be completed by mid summer. Theestimated cost of this work is approximately$632,000 of which 80% of $545,600 is being paidfor with a grant secured by the City through IDOT.
Hirsch Avenue from Roy to 43rd Avenue willalso be resurfaced this year, with the scope of workthe same as what is being done on Roy andRoberta. This work will begin in August andshould be completed by October. The cost of thiswork is estimated to be $546,000 of which 80% or$436,800 is also being paid with a grant securedby the City.
Also set for this year will be the replacement of
the traffic signals at Wolf and Winters, near WestLeyden High School. The existing signals are over40 years old and parts are becoming difficult tolocate. The new signals will be similar to the onesinstalled last year at Fullerton and Wolf. Theestimated cost for this project is $300,000 ofwhich 80% or $240,000 is being paid for withgrant funding.
The City will be making an application forCommunity Development Block Grant Funding forthe installation of an elevator at Northlake CityCentre (the former Lutheran Church) at 112 N.Wolf Road. This elevator will make all levels ofthis building ADA compliant which will open upthe facility for community use.
You may have noticed underground work beingdone also along North Avenue and Wolf Road.This work is for installation of fiber optic cable toenhance our ever growing internet infrastructure.All landscaping renovation and repairs tosidewalks and pavement will be done when thiswork is finished.

Recently, the City of Northlake hired a newFinance Director. Carol Lampard is a 32 yearveteran of working for the State of Illinois in
various capacities.Most recently sherelocated to Chicagofrom Central Illinoisto work for Metra,Pace and RTAconductingperformance audits toidentify areas thatneeded improvement.
Carol started hercareer in publicservice where shegained anunderstanding offinancial budgeting
and accountability with emphasis on serving theconstituents. Carol states her desire is to serveresidents in Northlake so they will gain confidencein her.
Over the years, Carol has worked for Judy BarrTopinka and Secretary of State Jesse White. Sheoversaw a budget of over $400 million.
Carol grew up in Genoa, Il and went to schoolat Western Illinois University and University ofIllinois – Springfield. She has a son who is a policeofficer in Highland Park and a daughter who is ingraduate school. She is a welcome addition to theCity of Northlake.

“My Old Northlake”Ariel Babicz was the first one to submit an
answer to the photo. This was the oldNorthlake Bridge that went across the trainyard at Wolf Road. It burned down on May22nd, 1948. There were many discussions aboutrebuilding, but it never happened. This picturegot about 20 responses from residents.

mandatory.The following items need to be
recycled: TV’s, monitors, printers, faxmachines, scanners, computers,
electronic keyboards and mice, videogame consoles and video cassettes,
digital converter boxes, cable andsatellite receivers and records,
portable digital music players, videodisc records and players.
The City of Northlake offers a freeelectronic recycling service. You can
drop these items of at the PublicWorks Department, 100 W. Palmer,Monday through Friday, from 7:00
a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
