Inferno by Dan Brown Thursday, November 16th- 1:30 PM

In his international blockbusters The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, and The Lost Symbol, Dan Brown masterfully fused history, art, codes, and symbols. In this riveting new thriller, Brown returns to his element and has crafted his highest-stakes novel to date.

In the heart of Italy, Harvard professor of symbology Robert Langdon is drawn into a harrowing world centered on one of history’s most endur-ing and mysterious literary masterpieces . . . Dante’s Inferno.

Against this backdrop, Langdon battles a chilling adversary and grapples with an ingenious riddle that pulls him into a landscape of classic art, secret passageways, and futuristic science. Drawing from Dante’s dark epic poem, Langdon races to find answers and decide whom to trust . . . before the world is irrevocably altered.

Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout Thursday, November 16th- 7:00 PM

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize, Olive Kitteridge offers profound insights into the human condition – its conflicts, its tragedies and joys, and the endurance it requires. At times stern, at other times patient, at times perceptive, at other times in sad denial, Olive Kitteridge, a retired schoolteacher, de-plores the changes in her little town of Crosby, Maine, and in the world at large, but she doesn’t always recognize the changes in those around her: a lounge musician haunted by a past romance; a former student who has lost the will to live; Olive’s own adult child, who feels tyrannized by her irrational sensitivities; and her husband, Hen-ry, who finds his loyalty to his marriage both a blessing and a curse. As the townspeople grapple with their problems, mild and dire, Olive is brought to a deeper understanding of herself and her life – some-times painfully, but always with ruthless honesty. Olive Kitteridge offers profound insights into the human condition – its conflicts, its tragedies and joys, and the en-durance it requires.

Gearing up for Thanksgiving, I decided to ask the fellow librarian’s of the Madison Public Library what they are thankful for.. specifical-ly, why they were thankful to be a librarian/ why they were thankful for the library. Here are there answers below!

“Reading and learning are a valuable investment in one’s self. As a librarian I love having the chance to help facilitate opportunities for individuals who are seeking to improve their future by expanding their knowledge.” -Joy

“I am thankful as a librarian because my job is always interesting and ever changing. No two days are alike. I learn something every day. I’m thankful for the particular smell that is the library’s. “It was good to walk into the library again; it smelled like home.” -Elizabeth Kostova” - Nancy
