HIB Definition
Any gesture, written communication, physical or verbal act,electronic communication
that is reasonably perceived as being motivated either by any actual or perceived characteristic,
such as race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or a mental, physical or sensory disability, or any other distinguishing characteristic
Difference between Conflict & HIB
ConflictMutually competitive or opposing action or
engagement.Includes disagreements, arguments and fights.A normal part of growing up and of life.
HIBOne or more students are victim’s of one or
more person’s behavior, as it applies to the HIB definition.
The intent is to physically or emotionally hurt someone.
HIB is one-sided.
HIBA single or series of incidentsOn or off school groundsSubstantially disrupts or
interferes with orderly operation of the school or the rights of other students
Investigation Procedure Verbal report to principalPrincipal informs the Anti – Bullying
Specialist (ABS)ABS investigates Parents are contacted Reports are submitted to the
principal, superintendent and parents
Superintendent reports to the Board of Education
Superintendent’s Role Twice a year at a public meeting,
the superintendent must report all acts of violence and vandalism as well as all harassment, bullying and intimidation which occurred during the previous semester to the board of education.
School Safety Team Is formed by school district, develops and fosters
positive school climate, addresses HIB, meets at least twice per school year.
The School Safety Team shall consist of:
The principal or his designee
A teacher in the school
A School Anti-Bullying Specialist
A parent of a student in the school
And other members to be determined by the principal
The school Anti-Bullying Specialist shall serve as the chair of the school safety team
