MESSAGE FROM THE HON’BLEVICE-CHANCELLORFrom a tremendous beginning in 1921, and after the upgradation into a University in 2016, Harcourt Butler Technical University, Kanpur has grown into an organization par excellence. Harcourt Butler Technical University (Formerly HBTI) is an institution of national Importance, which came into being in the year 1921. In the last 97

years, the Institution has grown into a full-�edged premier technical University. The graduating students, from the very beginning, have shown tremendous potential and skill in their respective �elds of study and they have also fared very well in terms of having an overall developed personality. Their abilities are well attested by the excellent reports we receive from the recruiting companies. Apart from the regular courses, students are also engaged in various cultural, technical,

sports and literary activities throughout the year. The institution provides valuable support by o�ering information and guidance to the graduating

students registered for placement. The Training and Placement Cell looks after all the required activities for this purpose. The University believes in all

ABOUT US WHY RECRUIT FROM HBTU? Harcourt Butler Technical University (Formerly Harcourt Butler Technological Institute) is a government funded technical University located at Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. The college was named after Sir Spencer Harcourt Butler, Governor of the United Provinces in British India. All its programs have been conferred in autonomous status under the University. It is one of the oldest engineering institutes in the country and holds the NBA accreditation. It o�ers Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral programs in engineering and Technology as well as Masters Programs in Computer Applications. In 1959, when the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) was established,its classes were initially held in the campus of HBTI until IITK developed its own campus. Harcourt Butler Technical University is the mother institute of the National Sugar Institute (in 1936, then known as the Imperial Institute of Sugar Technology), the Government Central Textile Institute (in 1937), now known as the Uttar Pradesh Textile Technology Institute, and the Glass Institute. It was also one of the 127 technical institutions in India which were the recipients of funding from World Bank's International Development Association (IDA) in the phase one (2004-2009) of the Technical Engineering Educational Quality Improvement Project (TEQIP) - the �rst World Bank project in Higher education in India. It had been a bene�ciary institution of TEQIP-II and currently TEQIP-III projects are in process.

OUR CAMPUS

Campus and HostelsThe University is divided into east and west campuses where east campus has mainly instructional buildings. East campus has two boys hostels (Lake View) and four girl’s hostels GH-I II III and IV and a few residential quarters, medical Centre Training and Placement cell, Guest house, student activity Centre. West Campus has UG and PG hostels, residential quarters for faculty, Gymnasium and other required facilities.

Central Library The University has a well-furnished central library with rare collection of books related to Engineering and Technology, Literature, latest technical magazines to keep students well informed about present technological advancements.

Centre of Excellence(CoE) CoE on Applied Research, Training and Education in Lipid Science under Oil & Paint Dept. HBTU is focused on research activities related to Oleo-chemicals and advanced oil processing technologies, novel surfactants, Eco-e�cient soaps and detergents.

Central WorkshopWorkshop of University is a central facility which provides training to undergraduate students and also assists undergraduate, Post graduate and research students in fabrication of their projects and experimental setups.

Computer Centre University has well equipped Windows and Linux Computer Labs and continuously monitored server room. 100 Mbps wide �ber optic network that connects academic area, departments, hostels and residences to the central server.

Medical Centre University maintains an outdoor patient dispensary in east campus with a Medical O�cer to look after the health of students and sta�. Serious cases are referred to LLMR hospital and other reputed hospitals for immediate treatment.

Guest House HBTU has well furnished Guest House in the East Campus. The Guest House has 2 VIP suites, 2 deluxe rooms and eight air conditioned rooms.

University is covered under World Bank assisted TEQIP-III (Technical Education Quality Improvement Program Phase).

COMMITTEES AND CLUBSCultural Sub Council HBTU Cultural Sub Council is entrusted with the responsibility of exploring the realms of our cultural talents. The club helps the students in grooming their hidden cultural talents. Na�onal level events of HBTU (ODYSSEY) is organised by its council.

Literary Sub Council The Literary Sub Council organises various discussion sessions, workshops and compe��ve events among the students. The club organise debates, group discussions and various events regularly to sa�sfy the literary appe�te in students.

Gen-X Innova�on & Incuba�on E-Cell GIIEC of HBTU has been set-up only last year with the aim of crea�ng start-up friendly ecosystem in the university. The first ever E-summit of HBTU was organised last year involving talks by budding entrepreneurs, compe��ons and entrepreneurship drive to s�mulate entrepreneurship in the university.

Sports Club HBTU Sports Club conducts various inter college and intra college sports events to pioneer spirit of teamwork among the students. The college provides excellent pioneer spirit of teamwork among the students. The college provides excellent infrastructure for Cricket, basketball, volleyball, football, badminton, table tennis and various other sports.

Yoga Club HBTU yoga club conducts various yoga sessions for students and during morning hours and on weekends to help students unite their mind, body and soul through medita�on and make them feel fi�er and more energe�c.

Personality Development Club HBTU Personality Development Club helps the students in improving their overall personality and makes them well-groomed and more confident for their bright future in the mighty corporate world.

Photography Club Photography Club engenders passion in its members and like all great forms of expression creates opinions formed through experience and reflec�on.

PLACEMENT CELL

HBTU Placement cell is the official arbitrator for HBTU on campus placement. Our enthusiastic team strives hard to strike a match between recruiter’s expectations and student’s aspiration. The University Placement Coordina-tors, Placement cell, in consultation with the placement cell team and student representatives handles the placement cell tasks.

The Training and Placement Cell is the team of student representatives that consists of the Training and Placement student representative heads who primarily coordinate activities on two paths of campus placements, the company coordination and logistics which is executed by the Company Coordinators and Student employability enhancement which is looked after by the Department Placement Coordinators. Each engineering branch has its prescribed number of Train-ing and Placement Student’s Representatives which provide requisite flexibility to the placement cell.

The Student Head, along with the departmental coordinators provide their best possible assistance to the recruiters and also put their consummate efforts, extending from contacting companies to managing all the logistics of arrangement for tests, pre-placement talks and final interviews. The placement cell of HBTU is well equipped with auditoriums and seminar rooms and ample infrastructure to support online and written screening tests to ensure that the placement process goes on smoothly to the satisfaction of the companies visiting us.
