INTRODUCTION
Paṭna is the capital of the Indian state of Bihar and the second most populous city in Eastern
India. Patna is one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in the world. Ancient Patna,
known as Pataliputra, was the capital of the Magadha Empire under the Haryanka, Nanda,
Mauryan, Sunga , Gupta, Pala and during the Islamic period the seat of power for the Suri
dynasty. Pataliputra was also a seat of learning and fine arts. Its population during the Maurya
period (around 300 BCE) was about 400,000.
The modern city of Patna is situated on the southern bank of the Ganges. The city also
straddles the rivers Sone, Gandak and Punpun. The city is approximately 35 km long and
16 km to 18 km wide.
The Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain pilgrim centres of Vaishali, Rajgir, Nalanda, Bodhgaya, and
Pawapuri are nearby and Patna is also a sacred city for Sikhs as the last Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind
Singh, was born here.

In Patna, there are several monuments that includes museums, archaeological sites, mosques,
number of historical monuments such as Golghar and Patan Devi Temple. Also there are several
parks in Patna for the people to enjoy the leisure from their daily hectic stuff.
Some of the popular parks located in Patna are
Kumhrar park,
Eco Park,
Buddha Smriti Park and
not to forget the Hardinge Park.
The Hardinge Park in Patna also known as Veer Kunwar singh azaadi park is one of the oldest
park which was built in 1931 to commemorate the visit of Lord Hardinge. But after
independence of India, it was renamed as Kunwar Singh Park. The Hardinge park in Patna is
spread over an area of 25 acres. It was an ideal place to gets and relax. People loved to go for
the morning walk, spend time with there family and children's in this beautiful park. Earlier,
there was a five-ton bronze statue of Lord Hardinge which has been known to be shifted to
Patna museum.
Hardinge Park in Patna: At Present
Earlier many people loved to spend there sparetime in the park with there children's. But with
the passage of time, the condition of Hardinge
park has deteriorated. Now, the scene from
outside is something else. The park has become
nothing but a place for cattle grazing and stray
animals. The fence of the park is also broken in
the course of time and the green grass has got
covered with dumped things, stray dogs feces.
The park has fallen prey to sheer neglect from the state government.
To make it a beautiful park for the Patnaites , it is necessary for Bihar government to plan and
implement renovation projects to make it a wonderful place again for morning walks, for
children's and old age peoples.

Museum & Science Centre
A science museum or a science centre is a museum devoted primarily to science. Older science
museums tended to concentrate on static displays of objects related to natural
history, paleontology, geology, industry and industrial machinery, etc. Modern trendsin museology have broadened the range of subject matter and introduced many interactive
exhibits. Many if not most modern science museums - which increasingly refer to themselves as
'science centres' or 'discovery centres' - also put much weight on technology. One main aspect
of science ignored in most museums is the history of the discipline. The search for knowledge is
full of trials and errors but science museums hardly ever acknowledge that human frailty and
mistakes go along with a history that has lasted centuries
To portray the growth of science and technology and their applications in industry and human
welfare, with a view to develop scientific attitude and temper and to create, inculcate and
sustain a general awareness amongst the people.
To collect, restore and preserve important historical objects, which represent landmarks
in the development of science, technology and industry.
To design, develop and fabricate science museum exhibits, demonstration equipment
and scientific teaching aids for science education and popularization of science.
To popularize science and technology in cities, urban and rural areas for the benefit of
students and for the common man by organizing exhibitions, seminars, popular lectures,
science camps and various other programs.
To supplement science education given in schools and colleges and to organize various
out-of-school educational activities to foster a spirit of scientific enquiry and creativityamong the students.
To organize training programs for science teachers/students/young
entrepreneurs/technicians/ handicapped/ housewives and others on specific subjects of
science, technology and industry .
To render assistance to universities, technical institutions, museums, schools and
colleges or other bodies in planning and organizing science museums and also in training
of personnel for museum profession.
To establish Centres for development of science exhibits and demonstration aids.
