    Author talk: John Man New Light on Xanadu

    7:00pm at Stroud Green Library

    Author John Man, specialist on Mongolia and the history

    of communication, will link these two themes in his talk

    and shed new light on Xanadu. John Man has written

    many books including the international best-sellerGenghis Khan, biographies ofAtilla the Hun and Kublai

    Khan and The Great Wall(2009). The focus in this talk is

    on his worksXanadu: Marco Polo and Europes

    Discovery of the East (2009); the story of the alphabet

    Alpha Beta, and the origins of printing The Gutenberg

    Shahab Ahmed will read poems from

    his recent collection Leaping

    Shadows (Athena Press).

    Author ofTime and Tide

    and Shadows of Time, Shahab was a guest poet

    reading his poems from Shadows of Time in

    Leipzig Castle in 2005. His next poetry book will be

    Rubaiyyat, published in 2010. Signed copies

    Local author and crimewriter, Matthew Loukes, will talk about his latest

    novel Goose Flesh. The novel is the second in his

    crime series featuring investigator Slim Gunter.

    Estrella Dam is the first in the series. In 1988,

    Loukes was shortlisted for the CWA/Sunday

    Times New Crime Writers Award. Books for

    Sister Agnes offers a satisfying blend of guilty penitence

    Daljit Nagra, poet, will discuss, read from and talk about his

    much acclaimed collection of poetry Look We Have Coming

    to Dover!Variously described as life-affirming

    funny riotously idiosyncratic, Daljits

    poetry won two Forward Prizes: Best Single

    Poem in 2004 for Look We Have Coming to

    Dover! and Best First Collection in 2007. He

    was shortlisted for the Guardian First Book

    Award; the 2007 Costa Poetry Award and

    won the South Bank Show Decibel Award in

    Romesh Gunesekera will talk about his

    birth country, Sri Lanka, coming to

    England and influences on his writing.

    The authors latest novel is The Match.

    His previous novels include Reef, shortlisted for the Booker

    Prize and Guardian Fiction Prize 1994, Heavens Edge,

    shortlisted for the Commonwealth Writers Best Book award

    2003 and a collection of short stories Monkfish Moon, BBC

    Story Competition, and three times 1st Prize Winner of the

    London Writers Competition. Her stories have been

    Wonderful Beast

    Theatre School.

    Since the 80s,

    Sasha has toured

    with Adrian Mitchell

    and his poetryshows in theatre and
