Dear Families

Our extra-curricular calendar has become non existent due to Covid-19. It has been a trying week but we are making sure that where possible, the children are having a normal school day. I believe that this is really important for the school to maintain a sense of calm. We have already seen the result of panic and responding to media hype in our supermarkets! We will keep you informed and let you know if there is any change to our situation.

Many of the events that were coming up are only postponed, not cancelled so I am sure that when it is safe we will get to participate in the events. Our camp to the Grampians will be rescheduled as we believe that it is an important part of learning and social development.

We have just been notified that Naplan has been cancelled for 2020 and as I find out more about this I will keep you updated.

We have started “a share basket” in the front office that families can either contribute to if you have spare food and toiletries or take from if you need any of these items. We want to help as many families as we can, so please consider others at all times. Our school community has already been so generous, it is up-lifting to witness this.

As you can see in coming events, we are going ahead with our Pupil Free Day on the 30th March. As a staff, we will be ensuring that learning is always on our agenda.

Our Sports Day was a great success and thank you to everyone who came along to support their children. The staff and parents who helped out prior to, and on the day did an amazing job and everything went to plan. Without the support from Kerran Winegard and his students from Mount Gambier High School we could not give our students the experiences of so many events. They do such a great service to our school.

We celebrated our “BULLYING. NO WAY!” and Harmony Day this morning with acknowledgement of our outstanding students, songs, a poem and some facts about our great country. The children celebrated with ice-cream and class activities. We will be continuing with this theme as we make our “Peace Poles” later in the term or early next term. Many of the children and staff wore orange today to mark this special day.

In closing I ask that you keep supporting us as you have been, by notifying us of any health issues and sending your children to school as at this stage, this is a safe and secure place for them to experience normality.

Attendance

Just in case some of you missed our note this week we have included the information again here. Please note the camp on Tuesday April 7th has been postponed at this stage. We have been in contact with the Department and this was their directive in order to keep our children and staff safe.

Although, we are not going to camp this term, we are hopeful that the pandemic will have eased or disappeared and we can reschedule this great experience for later in the year as we have already committed a large deposit to the campsite.

Many of you have paid for the camp and we are grateful for this, at this stage we would like to keep all payments that have been made as we are confident the camp will go ahead before the end of the year and this will alleviate the need to re-invoice and collect monies.

Thank you for your understanding and patience, we will keep you updated as soon as we have further information about safe travel dates.

Camp Postponed

Our school is remaining open and operating as normal per the Education Department directives we have received. Please follow all notifications we send home in regards to the ongoing health and safety of our school community. We will let you know of any Covid-19 updates as we get them. We thank you in advance for remaining calm at this time.

Please note that due to the coronavirus the Commonwealth Bank has temporarily paused school banking as of today Friday 20 March 2020 until the start of Term 2. Please do not bring your deposit book until we notify you when banking will recommence. Thank you for your understanding. Kate and Michelle School Banking Co-ordinators

A big thank you to our amazing participating students and to our staff. Also, we must thank parents and grandparents for the donations of food for our stalls and coming to watch their children on the day. We would also like to acknowledge the assistance and en-couragement from the Athletics group from MGHS. Thank you Kerran Winegard for your support and organisation of this partnership. A massive thank you to everyone.
