HARMONY - The future in Weight and Balance

AIRLINE DATA SYSTEMS HARMONY Load Control, Weight and Balance System
HARMONY - Load Control, Weight and Balance System The HARMONY PC-system provides computer support to gain load control efficiency and reliability in aircraft weight & balancing. Based upon aircraft performance data it supports the load control activities by monitoring all steps to be taken until the load sheet is prepared, signed and the LDM load message is sent. HARMONY follows the latest IATA recommendations. The procedure ensures an optimized aircraft balance and flight safety while it minimizes the time and costs for the weight.

SUPERVISION OVERVIEW The LC-OVERVIEW function presents a list of all flight departures that are to be LOAD & BALANCE controlled, in departure time order. The flights on the overview can be created manually, but can also be supplied automatically by ATOCS, the Airport Traffic Operation Control System from Airline Data Systems. After Flight Release the flights are removed from the Overview display. Overdue Flights are signalled by red color, 10 minutes before departure the flights are in yellow and 20 minutes before departure they are in green color. The alerts are changeable by time and color. The status of each flight departure is monitored, thus it is visible which actions are complete and which are still

General Information Change ETD
This part shows some basic information about the marked flight. Changes in ETD are done here using the corresponding button. The ETD is changed by inserting the new
ETD in hh:mm format. If also the date changes, the format is DD.MM.YY hh:mm. Confirm with [ENTER].

FLIGHT DETAILS Each Flight can be accessed from the overview and carries the retrieved A/C performance data from the database and all other Load Control, Weight and Balance information necessary. The measurement (Kg, Lb, etc.) can be decided individually per each index table, but is also controlled by the A/C default values. The Flight Details is the Flights main screen and covers:
This Flight Details is one of the main parts of HARMONY. Here, you adds all neccessary information about the actual aircraft performance data (can also be added automatically from database) and the final figures (either manually or from DCS, e.g. CHAPS).
•Flight Data •Passenger Data •Weight Info •Activity Status
•Seating Conditions •Finals Figures •Load Sheet - LDM
If the Operator deletes a flight, a security question is displayed, after confirmation the flight is deleted from the list. This is only valid for the actual flight, it is not

Flight data This section shows all relevant information for aircraft performance like maximum weight and fuel data. Passenger Data The Passengers section is a read only section where all Passenger figures from Finals section are added up for a quick overview of total passenger figures. Weight Info Weight section is also read only and shows the weight calculation based upon the actual load figures and performance data. The MTOW restriction is shown in bold figures for quick access to relevant data in case of weight problems. A possible overload is shown in red. Activity Status The status section is an indicator for quick information about the flight status in HARMONY. Step by step is marked and is also shown under Overview screen. Seating Conditions The actual number of passengers are distributed in the cabin sections and cockpit, with maximum pax indication, of the aircraft. Finals Figures Finals shows a grid with two lines for each destination, there is Onload and Transit figures. For each Pax onboard (M/F/AD/C) it is neccessary to specifiy the class (F/C/Y). Without a specification it is not possible to print a Loadsheet. Load Sheet - LDM Here you have same markers as in Overview, plus you can also manually update them. This means that if situations change and you have to redo work, you can mark it as open, so that everybody looking at the overview has actual information.
Here the date is set for which the flights shall be generated. By default the next day is shown, changes are possible.
This section allows changes in aircraft type, registration and configuration of the aircraft.

BULK/ULD LOAD PLANNING for Passenger, Cargo and Combi Aircraft The load planning function is the section where all deadload is distributed within the cargo holds and checked against the final figures. The deadload is controlled per destination, cargo category, bulk and ULD load. The hold area is dynamic according to the A/C performance data. The number of holds fulfils the IATA recommendations for all types of aircraft. Depending on the screen used, the number of holds displayed is dynamic on the screen vary - up to 15 holds can be displayed on the same time - the rest of the holds is scrollable. If all weight for a destination is distributed correctly, the destination is automatically marked and shown as correct in the destination checkbox and the final checkbox. The system also checks maximum weights.
ULD Load The ULD load planning is controlled per destination, ON/Transit indication, ULD Number, ULD Type, Compartment, Position, Cargo Category, Weight, Own Weight and Remark. Load Instruction An IATA compliant Load Instruction is printed from the system according to the desired Load planning. Remarks and verbal instructions can be added. Balancing In the lower part of the screen, the system shows all relevant balance information including a “visual” %MACTOW, Ideal Trim and Pitch setting, for Normal, Additional and Extraordinary Flaps setting.
After inserting numbers simply press Update to see the pitch reacting to the new situation. After finalizing the distribution press Loading Instruction to print a LI for Headloader.
All numbers are checked and validated against final figures and maximum capacity of holds. Each completed destination is marked with a hook.
The lower part of the window shows a visual pitch indicator which gives the operator a quick and easy to use tool for economic loading of an aircraft.

The holds display is dynamic - up to 15 holds can be displayed on the same time - the rest of the holds is scrollable if needed.
Here is an example of ULD-distribution in aircraft. Just add the numbers according to the finals. Include the container weight (Own wt) in the total
ULD Load The ULD load planning is controlled per destination, ON/Transit indication, ULD Number, ULD Type, Compartment, Position, Cargo Category, Weight, Own Weight and Remark.
The field Supplementary information can be used for special information to the Headloader, for example known loading restrictions. HARMONY will refuse to print LI if any loading figure is not correct, maybe not all weight
Loading Instruction
If you want to print a loadsheet and something is wrong or missing in finals that is required for a correct loadsheet, HARMONY shows an error message with additional information and the printout is cancelled. After solving the problem a loadsheet is printed according to IATA Recommendations.

To print the loadsheet, simply press the Print button. Before, you can add supplementary information for PIC in the corresponding field, for example information about handicapped Pax, bikes, etc.
After departure the flight is not needed in HARMONY anymore and can be removed. To do so simply press the Flight Release button in Flight details window and after confirming this question flight is removed.
