Grove Hill Cemetery

Where is this cemetery?

You probably have driven past it on North Main Street lots of times but didn’t notice it. You can’t see it from the road.

Grove Hill Cemetery? What’s that?Grove Hill Cemetery is the oldest cemetery in Chagrin Falls. People were buried there between 1836 and 1867.

If you look at the cemetery today, it looks rough. The headstones are broken and hard to read because the weather has worn away the writing.

If you look closer, you’ll see that people who did amazing things for our village and our country are buried there.

Some of the first settlers of Chagrin Falls are buried there like Charles Sears. He bought part of the Chagrin Falls Paper Company from Noah Graves, and they renamed it Graves and Sears in 1842.

Who is in the cemetery?

There’s also a Revolutionary War veteran buried there! His name was Josiah Rogers. Without men like him, we may still be ruled by the British.

Side note: During the Revolutionary War, the colonies wanted to be free from Great Britain. They declared themselves free in 1776 as The United States of America!

burn

There are more people than you think buried in Grove Hill Cemetery, but we may never know who some of them are because there was a fire that destroyed the records.

About three years ago, the Boy Scouts put up a headstone with the names of the people we know are there.

This is the view of the cemetery from my bedroom window. I live right next to it.

I Wondered

I wondered how many people are dead in the cemetery...

Ha ha ha

all of them!

thank you for watching!!!
