Y6 Week 6 Answers – 27.04.20 – 01.05.20

ReadingMonday

1. The setting for the scene is “a lush green landscape with trees and a clear pool of water”. (1 mark)

2. The characters in the scene are: a wise man, a King, the King’s guards, Compere Lapin and Compere Tig.(1 mark)

3. The King knows that someone has been in his pool because it is “murky and dirty”.(1 mark)

4. The actor playing the King should say “He must die!” in a commanding voice. This is because he is a king and is used to be obeyed. The exclamation mark shows that it should be said loudly.(2 marks)

Tuesday

1. The wise man tells the King that Compere Lapin is to blame.(1mark)

2. When he thinks he is allowed in the pool Compere Tig feels proud to have been chosen by the king to bathe somewhere special. I know this because it says “pushing his chest out with pride”.(2 marks)

3. The King’s guards capture Compere Tig and “wrap him in a bundle and tie him to a tree”.(1mark)

4. Compere Tig tells Compere Lapin that the real reason the King is angry with him is because he refused to marry the King’s daughter and not because he went in the pool.(1 mark)

Wednesday (possible answers could include)

1. Compere Lapin enters looking panicked because he has heard that the King has realised someone was in his pool and that person should be arrested and killed. This ‘someone’ was probably Compere Lapin.(2 marks)

Page 2: Hartley Brook Primary Academy – Astrea Academy Trust · Web viewDominos deliver 72,536 pizzas every week. To the nearest thousand, how many pizzas are delivered in a week? 73,000

Y6 Week 6 Answers – 27.04.20 – 01.05.202. Compere Lapin tell Compere Tig that the king has given permission for

him to use the pool as he knows that Compere Tig will try to get in the pool and the King will see this and blame him.(1 mark)

3. Compere Lapin say “Compere Tig, let me swap with you”? because he would like to marry the King’s daughter as this could lead to him having power and riches.(1 mark)

4. The relationship between Compere Lapin and Compere Tig is one based on friendship as they enter the stage together; however, Compere Lapin plays tricks on his friend and is quite selfish as when is friend is arrested he doesn’t tell the truth, he “watches hiding behind a rock”. Compere Tig is possibly too trusting of his friend.(2 marks)

Thursday (possible answers could include)

1. Either answer is possible but the mark comes from the justification- Compere Tig was right to trick Compere Lapin in the end because he

had been tricked first. Compere Lapin had left him to be arrested and tied to a tree. (1 mark)

- It wasn’t right for Compere Tig to trick Compere Lapin in the end because they were friends and friends should always look out for each other and forgive each other if one of them makes a mistake. (1 mark)

-2. The clue from the text that the two main characters are NOT human

are “Compere Tig walks proudly to the pool and dips his paws in” and “Compere Lapin stops washing his ears”. Both of these actions are what an animal would do, not a human.

(2 marks)

3. Various answers are available but the mark comes from the reason why. For example:

- The final line should be said quietly because Compere Tig is upset by the events and takes no joy in his former friend’s death.

- The final line should be said with regret as Compere Lapin was Compere Tig’s friend but he betrayed him.

- The final line should be said gleefully because Compere Tig has got his revenge.

4. The effect would be that the audience are ‘on the edge of their seats’ waiting for the moment the guards begin to come forward with the red hot iron bar. They would be constantly reminded of the pain the guards are going to inflict upon the person who went against the King’s orders.

(2 marks)

Friday (possible answers could include)

Y6 Week 6 Answers – 27.04.20 – 01.05.201. Compere Lapin is quite two-faced and selfish. He only really thinks

about himself and is quite happy for his friend Compere Tig to take the blame when he was the one who broke the rules.

2. Features of a play script include: the setting, the list of characters, the way that the text is split into scenes, the stage directions given in brackets, the layout of the text with the character given followed by what they say and the fact that none of the dialogue uses speech punctuation.

3. Stage directions include centre stage, stage right, stage left, upstage, and downstage. These guide the actors to the different sections of the stage named after the centre and four directions. Corners are referred to as up right, down right, up left, and down left. They are named from the actor’s point of view (the opposite to what the audience will see).
