was that pesticides kill both kinds of insects, besides spoiling

the human life as a whole.

To accomplish the goal of transforming agriculture in Haryana as a cheerful, employment oriented and remunerative profession, Haryana Kisan Ayog constituted a Working Group on “Postharvest Technology & Value Addition for Haryana” comprising of four well-known scientists Dr. Nawab Ali, Former DDG, Agricultural Engineering, ICAR as Chairman and Dr. R. K. Gupta Director, CIPHET Ludhiana, Dr. D. V. K. Samuel, Head Agricultural Engineering, IARI New Delhi and Dr. S. S. Dhawan Former Head FST, CCSHAU, Hisar as members of this group. Dr. K. N. Rai consultant HKA acted as Nodal Officer. The report highlights various concepts and strategies for the promotion of value addition starting from production to consumption in agriculture including livestocks management. The report also explains different post harvest management technologies involved in processing and value addition. Post harvest technology is commodity and location specific, hence, raw and fresh food commodities have been grouped into four categories, namely grains (cereals, pulses & oilseeds); cash crops (sugarcane, cotton & guar); horticultural produces (fruits & vegetables, medicinal & aromatic plants, spices, mushroom, honey & floriculture); and livestock produces (dairy, poultry, meat & fish). Appropriate management of agricultural residues, livestock wastes and processing byproducts along with agri-business management and guidelines for establishing agro-enterprises have also been discussed. It also contains observations on food processing in Haryana, suggestions and recommendations.

thThe National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS) and ICAR, New Delhi jointly organized 12 Agricultural Science Congress with the theme of “Sustainable Livelihood Security for Smallholder Farmers” at ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, Haryana during February 3-6, 2015. Sh. Kaptan Singh Solanki, Hon'ble Governor of Haryana and Punjab inaugurated the Congress. He also shared his views on agriculture and urged the participants of the conference to deliberate upon the problems of small farmers. He desired that small farmers should be educated about new technologies related optimum utilization of resources.

Shri Manohar Lal, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Haryana was the Chief Guest of the congress. In his valedictory address, he urged scientists to work for the development of new technologies for the benefit of small farmers. He also said that the theme of congress is very much relevant to Haryana state, as more than 70% of the agriculture land is with small farmers. Dr. R. S. Paroda, Former Chairman, HKA and Former Secretary, DARE & DG, ICAR; Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR & President, NAAS; Prof. R.B. They also shared their views on the theme points of congress. In the Congress, various technical and plenary session and seminars were also organized. Many progres-sive farmers from across the country also participated. Various scientist/researchers were also awarded for their outstanding contribution to Indian agriculture. Poster and oral presentations of research and expo were also organized in the Congress for the exposure to latest achievements.
