It’s a Bio-Chip

Page 5: hashem bio chip

•The biochip technology was originally developed in 1983 for

monitoring fisheries, it’s use now includes, over 300 zoos, pets,

monitoring lab animals, fisheries, endangered wildlife, automobiles,

hazardous waste, and humans.

•Biochips are "silently" inching into humans. For instance, at least 6

million medical devices, such as artificial body parts (prosthetic

devices),chin implants, etc., are implanted in people each year. And

most of these medical devices are carrying a "surprise" guest —

A BIOCHIP.

• To date, over 7 million animals have been "chipped.

HISTORY….

BIOCHIP - VERICHIP

•The current, in use, biochip implant system is actually a fairly simple

device.

•Today’s, biochip implant is basically a small (micro) computer chip,

inserted under the skin, for identification purposes.

•The biochip system is Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)

system, using low-frequency radio signals to communicate between

the biochip and reader.

7

Page 8: hashem bio chip

What is RFID?• RFID ….. radio frequency identification

• It is the use of an object (referred to as an RFID tag) incorporated into a product, animal or person for the purpose of identification and tracking using radio waves.

8

Page 9: hashem bio chip

RFID• RFID tags contain 2 parts:-

a) integrated circuit for storing and processing information, modulating and demodulating a radio frequency signal.

b) antenna for receiving and transmitting signal

9

Page 10: hashem bio chip

RFID Three types of tags

Active RFID tags…. it contains a battery and transmit signals autonomously.

Passive RFID tags …. it contains no battery require external source to provoke signal transmission.

Battery assisted passive…. same as active but have significant high range.

Implementation Of RFID In Biochip

A biochip is complete when there is TRANSPONDER(the chip) READER / SCANNER

11

Page 12: hashem bio chip

TRANSPONDER•Computer Chip: Stores the unique ID number•Antenna Coil: Primitive Radio antenna to receive and send signals•Tuning Capacitor: Charged by the small (1/1000 of Watt) signal sent by the reader•Glass Capsule: Made of biocompatible material such as soda lime glass, hermetically (air-tight) sealed, covered with Polypropylene polymer

12

Page 13: hashem bio chip

READER/ SCANNER

•Transmits a small signal •Charges the tuning capacitor

•ID number transmitted by the transponder

Advantages of Biochips● Increases the speed of diagnosis of

diseases

● It is used for the identification purpose

● It can be used to locate missing and

kidnapped people

● In cases when a natural disasters occurs it

helps to locate people easily 16

Page 17: hashem bio chip

Disadvantages of biochips● Initial implementation cost is high

● lack of privacy ,a less powerful eye

compared to god is watching the user

all the time

● If at any time the biochip fails it’s a

challenging question that still puzzles

scientists17

SUMMARY●Biochips is going to set the new trend

in Medicine ,communication and identification

●Soon will be commercially used, where there would be no more buying or selling unless with a BIOCHIP
