We hope all parents will start Term 3 and do the right thing. School zone rules are enforced to keep your

STAGE 3 MATHEMATICS

Stage 3 will be starting maths groups in Semester two. There will be 4 year 5 groups and 4 year 6 groups.

These groups will be formed through analysis of assessment results from semester one as well as teacher

judgment. It will begin from the first day back to school in Term 3. The stage 3 teachers believe that this is

an important change for students to be organised for a different lesson with a different teacher as an

important step in preparation for High school.

FOOD SAFETY TRAINING for SCHOOL CANTEEN VOLUNTEERS

Port Macquarie Council’s Environmental Health Team is offering a free presentation on food safety for

school canteen staff and volunteers. The Food Standards Code requires that each food handler has

adequate skills and knowledge in food handling and preparation. This presentation goes over the basics of

food safety, Council’s role in regulation, types of contamination, heating and cooling requirements and

food poisoning. The presentation will also be a good opportunity for canteen staff and volunteers to ask

the Environmental Health Officer questions on inspections, food safety and hygiene. Training will be held

Wednesday 1st August, 9-10am and Monday 6th August, 3-4pm at the Port Macquarie Hastings Council

Committee Room, Burrawan Street. If you are interested in attending please let Mrs Hamel at canteen

know.

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL - FIELD EVENTS The postpone field events carnival will now be held on Friday, 3rd August at Oxley Oval.

Champion trophies and ribbons will be presented at the

3-6 Assembly to be held on Friday, 10th August.

MULTICULTURAL PUBLIC SPEAKING Congratulations to the students of Port Macquarie, Beechwood, North Haven, Telegraph Point, Tacking

Point, Aldavilla and Hastings Public Schools who participated in the

District Finals of the Multicultural Public Speaking competition at

Hastings yesterday.

Each student presented a prepared speech on a topic of their choice

given by the Department of Education’s Arts Unit. These speeches

had to have a multicultural theme and explore relevant issues.

Overall, the adjudicator commented on the high quality of speeches.

In addition, students also prepared an impromptu speech. Stage 2

students had five minutes to prepare a speech on trees whilst Stage 3

prepared and presented a speech on sport.

The Stage 2 competition was won by Gabby Turner from Tacking Point

and Kaeleb Morris from Hastings won the Stage 3 division.

Special congratulations to Madison Hopley (3B) who was awarded a

Highly Commended and big congratulations and good luck to Kaeleb

(5/6R) who will now represent Hastings at the Regional Finals next

term.

from 530 art entries. Jake’s piece was titled “My Giraffe in

PSSA BOYS HOCKEY Last Thursday the boys school hockey team, travelled to Grafton to play against Westlawn Public School. The boys played hard and defensively. They worked as a team and we are proud of their consistent effort. We had several shots at goal but unfortunately we were unable to score. Thank you to Danielle Blenkhorn for being our super coach and all the parents for driving, cheering and supporting our team. It is obvious the boys have improved since last year as this year’s result of 3-0 was a massive improvement. Well done, team! Can't wait for next year! Mr Kelly and Mrs Martin. PSSA GIRLS BASKETBALL

Our two hour trip didn't give Sawtell Public School the

home game advantage with the Hastings girls safely

progressing to round 5 of the PSSA Knockout. A slow start

saw the girls ahead 6-2 after the 1st quarter. Good

defence kept the opposition scoreless in the 2nd quarter

and we went to the half time break 10-2. In the 3rd quarter

our confidence grew and we led 16-4.

The girls created opportunities with good passing and cutting through the key. Their patience and excellent

defence resulted in a final score of 26-4.

Layla Horton, Tyra Turuva, Sarah King, Kyla Roach, Lauren Johnston, Jasmine Mison, Brodi Ardrey and

Elizabeth Hincksman will play Kororo Public School early next term.

A great display of sportsmanship and team work make it a pleasure to coach these girls. Good luck in Round

5!
