Wall Street slides as recession fears
grow: - Wall Street main indexes slid
1.5% on Wednesday, as a closely
watched U.S. bond market indicator
pointed to a renewed risk of recession
following poor economic data from
Germany and China.
Yen Gains despite Trade War Reprieve,
Euro Steady: - The safe haven yen was
higher on Wednesday despite a decision
by U.S. President Donald Trump to
postpone additional tariffs on some
Chinese imports, as investors remained
skeptical over prospects for a swift
resolution to the trade spat. The
temporary reprieve in the trade war
supported risk-off trades on Tuesday,
but analysts warn that the optimism is
already fading over a resolution to the
trade war between the world’s two
largest economies, which has threatened
global economic growth. Unrest in Hong
Kong, worries about Brexit, and Middle
East tensions mean risk aversion could
quickly flare up again and roil markets.
Gold Prices Trade Higher as Bond Rally
Reaches Epic Proportions: - Gold prices
rose on Wednesday as a rally in bonds
reached record proportions, driving
yields on many yields to new all-time
lows.
Oil Prices Plunge Further on Bearish
Crude Inventories: - Oil prices sank
further into negative territory on
Wednesday after weekly data on U.S.
crude inventories gave bearish signals
for demand and production. The Energy
Information Administration said in its
regular weekly report that crude oil
inventories increased by 1.58 million
barrels in the week to August 9.
