Have you yet solved the Puzzle about your career?
What is your dream? What are you really passionate about? How would you like to bring your
dream alive? Anybody can easily answer these questions, but that does not solve the most
confused question of ‘career’.
Reality check, how many people around you are really doing what they have dreamt of and
even if they are, are they really satisfied or happy now.
When I was in school my career priority changed with every class, in 8th I wanted to become a
doctor, then in 9th I wanted to become a journalist. Following that I tried and convinced my
parents that I want to pursue my graduation in mass communication. Somehow I ended up
pursuing bachelors in English and after graduation I pursued some multiple courses. So basically
I am not a journalist at present and often thinks that was it an idea of journalism that really
attracted me or maybe the idea of doing something different. Whatever it was at this moment
my conclusion is what I am doing right now i am fine with it and don’t want to be journalist any
more.
Being confused about career option is completely normal but not try and sort it out is not. If
you think that going with flow and pursuing whatever comes your way or is easily accessible to
you is not really an intelligent thing to do. Going in to more technicality of this problem there is
procedure that you can follow if you like and don’t want spend half of the time dazing and
dreaming about stuff you could have done but does not know how to.
Career counseling is one thing that really helps, I am not talking about free advice that you take
from your seniors or parents. Here it concerns a sorted procedure that is followed with the help
of certain assessment and counseling session with a counselor. Counselors are professional
they help you in selecting right career path. Personal career panic starts at high school itself
when pressure of selecting a right stream in 11th hover on our head basically whatever stream
we select we naturally frame out whole plan in our mind at that particular time itself,
Graduation course, best college, career etc become part of our decision at that point. But I
don’t think so that planning whole life just by deciding a specific steam is really wise thing to
do. We never know what can happen in those 2 years of our school. Maybe my score does not
allow me to pursue what I really I wanted to or I might just loose interest in that option all
together.
Just try not be very specific about your career at early stage itself, be open to multiple options
know your strength and weakness through counseling and psychometric assessment. Be open
about your queries and problem with counselor. Don’t be scared of exploring new options and
field you might stumble on some new talent of yours which you could pursue as a career.
