Hazards to Our Lake The Watershed Committee encourages all residents with frontage on Loon Lake to consider at least a 10 feet wide shoreline buffer (30-50’ recommended), planted with trees, shrubs and flowers that are native to our area. Lush green lawns may look nice to the eye, but fertilizers and pesticides applied near the lake can dramatically reduce water quality. Do not use fertilizers within 50 feet of the lake frontage and use phosphorous free fertilizer sparingly on the rest of your lawn. Fertilizers stimulate plant growth and algae blooms should they wash into the lake. Pesticides will also reduce water quality as they contain hazardous active and inactive ingredients. Please follow all manufac- turers’ instructions. To read more about how you can keep Loon Lake healthy, visit New York State Federation of Lake Associations site: www.nysfola.org. Every year since then, 12,000 fingerlings (50 day old and approximately 1.5 inches long) were placed in Loon Lake by the NYS DEC Bureau of Fisheries. This year will be the last of the five year program bringing the total stocked to 50,000. Ear- ly this fall, the NYS DEC will return to Loon Lake and conduct a survey to determine if the walleye are surviv- ing and reproducing. Hazards to Our Lake

The Watershed Committee encourages all residents with frontage on Loon Lake to consider at least a 10 feet wide shoreline buffer (30-50’ recommended), planted with trees, shrubs and flowers that are native to our area. Pesticides will also reduce water quality as they

contain hazardous active and inactive ingredients. Please follow all manufac-turers’ instructions. To read more about how you can keep Loon Lake healthy, visit New York State Federation of Lake Associations site: www.nysfola.org.

Walleye Stocking

Program

The Walleye, the largest member of the perch family, is one of New York’s most highly sought after sport fish. It has the capacity to reach a considerable size and pre-sents a challenging fishing experience to anglers. In 2009 Loon Lake was selected as an experimental test site for stock-ing walleye. Ear-ly this fall, the NYS DEC will return to Loon Lake and conduct a survey to determine if the walleye are surviv-ing and reproducing. A final report will be prepared and once received we will post it on the LLPDA website.
