Hazel ClassMonday 11th May
Good morning everyone!
I hope you’ve managed to enjoy the weekend. Here are your tasks for
today.
Remember, just do what you can and do your best, that’s what matters!
(9.00 -9.15) Handwriting/ spellings
This week we are still learning how to add the suffix –ous
to a root word but we have another spelling rule:
If the root words end in an ‘e’ you drop it and add –ous
EXCEPT if the root word ends in -ge
Look carefully and check these 2 words!
courageous
outrageous
Now check through all your words for this week remembering the ‘e’/’ge’ rule so
that you are ready for your test - you can do it now or after Maths, whichever you
prefer!
Maths Fluency (9.15 -9.30)
1. 3, 024 + 988 =
2. 7,051 – 2,403 =
3. 37 X 8 =
4. 84 ÷ 7 =
5. ¼ of 28 =
Maths (9.30 -10.30)
Something to think about…
Answers to fluency: 4,012 4,648 296 12 7
LO: to revise facts about the calendar including months,
leap years and statistics
• I can tell you the months of the year and use a
calendar to check the number of days
• I can tell you when a leap year is and when it happens
• I can change months into weeks into days and back
again
I have given you two worksheets today that revise all
of the things you need to know about the maths behind
the calendar!
• Complete them now, do as much as you can by
yourself and then see if an adult can help you fill in
the blanks…
Take a break!
Reflection (10.45 – 11.00)
English 11 - 12DON’T FORGET YOUR SPELLING TEST!
At the end of last term I asked you to think about all of the things
that the Romans did for us – one of those was the names of the
months of the year!
• Go to the worksheet and read the information
• Learn the poem and the mnemonic to help you remember the order of
the months and the number of days.
Challenges (if you have time)
Can you spell all the months of the year?
Do you know why a year has 365 and a ¼ days?
Check out this website (DON’T FORGET TO ASK FIRST)
http://www.projectbritain.com/calendar/
It has interesting facts for every day of the year!
Time for lunch…
How many time connectives can you find today?
(yesterday, tomorrow, before, later etc)
Bookworms - after lunch(quiet reading time)
Be Active (about 30 minutes)
This is your opportunity to BE ACTIVE!
What are you going to choose today? Some online ideas include:
REMEMBER - MAKE SURE YOU ASK AN ADULT TO HELP YOU IF YOU ARE GOING ONLINE

Or how about some skipping, a walk or a bike ride?
Remember if you are out and about to keep your distance from everyone except your family.
Our Topic is about the journey of water – why did we start
with mountains?
• Look at the next slide and see if can come up with an
answer!
Topic (about an hour)
Mountains (or hills) are part of the water cycle.
The water is pouring down the slopes, but where has it come from?
Some of it will be coming from melting snow as we head into
warmer weather but not all mountains or hills are snow covered in
winter, certainly not in the UK so that leads up back to ‘where did
it come from?’
I need you to think back to term 1 – in Science we learnt about
solids, liquids and gases and in one lesson we made a mini water
cycle – do you remember?
We used this vocabulary:
precipitation evaporation condensation
• Watch this clip to help you remember…

LO: to explain the water cycle using the correct vocabulary.
• Today, I would like you to draw a detailed diagram of the
water cycle and label it, you can design your own or use the
one on the worksheet.
This is a good place to look for extra information (ASK FIRST!)

On the next slide are some words to help you, you should
include all the words in red on your diagram.
Topic (about an hour)
Topic (about an hour)There are six important processes that make up the water cycle.
1.Condensation - the opposite of evaporation. Condensation occurs when a gas is changed into a liquid.
2.Infiltration - Infiltration is an important process where rain water soaks into the ground, through the soil and underlying rock layers.
3.Runoff - Much of the water that returns to Earth as precipitation runs off the surface of the land, and flows down hill into streams, rivers, ponds and lakes.
4.Evaporation - the process where a liquid, in this case water, changes from its liquid state to a gaseous state.
5.Precipitation - When the temperature and atmospheric pressure are right, the small droplets of water in clouds form larger droplets and precipitation occurs. The raindrops fall to Earth.
6.Transpiration - As plants absorb water from the soil, the water moves from the roots through the stems to the leaves. Once the water reaches the leaves, some of it evaporates from the leaves, adding to the amount of water vapor in the air. This process of evaporation through plant leaves is called transpiration.
Finally, can you answer these questions?
That’s all for today!
Don’t forget to let me know how you’re getting
on… send me your spelling score.
See you tomorrow!
