„E-mail it is a system used for creating,sending and storing textual data in the digitalform over a network. It‟s a way to keep in

touch with friends, get information startrelationships or express your opinion. Wehave got the opportunity to communicate

with people nearby and around the world in arelatively quick and efficient manner.

Simply put email means „ Electronic mail „.

It‟s the process of sending and receiving

message over the Internet.

E-MAIL HISTORY:-

E-mail system first used in Army field. Lateron 1969 it was used in scientific method atARPANET ( Advanced Research Projects

Agency Network). Mailbox used atmassachusetts institute of technology from1965.

WORKING WITH EMAIL:-

Email works on the Internet:-An Internet email address looks like this user name @

domain name.

*Send an Email message:-Email is sent and received through electronic “Post Offices”

knows as mail servers. Every email program will give you a wayto create a new message. An email address consists of theusername C C (Carbon Copy). Sends a copy to another

persons. BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) sends a copy to anotherperson but from the other recipients person but hidden from theother recepients. This elements mail be present for e mail to besent.

Receive an e mail message:-When you go to you account you will find a list of message in

your inbox. You will also be able to view one of those messageautomatically you do not have to open the message to view it.

Attach a file to an e mail message:-

E-mail gives you the ability to attach complete. Files for high

speed delivery anywhere in the world. Files can be photo

graphs, music, letters, text format etc.

 MAILING BASICS:-

 When using an email program it is a helpful to becomefamiliar with the basics. In this lesson we will give you anoverview of the various email windows. And various termsactions and features that are commonly used when working

with email.The E mail window:-

When using email you will interact with several windowsincluding the Inbox window the Email message window and

the compose message window. These are windows may lookand feel different but the way they functions is essentially thesame.

INBOX WINDOW:-

The Inbox is where you can view all of theincoming emails you have received e mailsare listed with the name of the sender thesubject of the message and the date

received.

An e mail message consists of threecomponents

The message header

The message body, The message envelope.

The message header

Header structured into fields such as From, To,CC, Subject, BCC.

From:- is e mail address. To:- To contains the e mail address of the recipients. CC:- Short for „Carbon Copy „ This box allows you to

„copy‟ a person on an e mail that you are sending tosome one else. Subject:- Subject contains the main topic of the

message. BCC:- „ Blind Carbon Copy‟ contains the e mail

addresses of other recipients. Who receive copiesbut their names and addresses are hidden from theother receipients.

The message body

The text of the original e mail appears in the body of the reply

usually marked in a different font or color, or with a special

special character. Such as the greater than sign (>) at thebeginning of each line.

The message envelope:-

To read an e mail, double click on theenvelope icon or the subject line of themessage.

COMPOSE MESSAGE WINDOW:-

The compose message to create an emailmessage of your own. You will need to enterthe recipient‟s email address and a subject

and uploading digital files (photo, documentsetc) and formatting the text in your message.

USEFUL E-MAIL SERVICE:-

E-mail services offer easy access and storage of e mailmessages for users.

E mail is one of the basic Internet service online e mailservices- online e mail services providers enable users tosend receive and review e mail from their web browsers.

 Webmail services:- A webmail accessed and operated from a

website. Some of the more popular online email services areyahoo mail, Gmail., Hotmail, etc.

E mail service that gives unlimited storage, fast search popaccess and an interface easy as a desktop e mail program.

An email response management service (ERMS) Is a set ofprograms that automatically handles e mail message andattachments according to user defined rules.

 E mail service includes rich secure and password protect.

The written documents carried by an intermediary from oneerson lace to another erson.

ADVANTAGES OF E MAIL:-

Speed:- An e mail message is delivered instantly andanywhere across the globe. With in minutes thus a lot of

time is saved. Use of graphics:- colorful greeting cards and interesting

pictures can be sent through emails.

Environment friendly:- postal mails use paper as a medium

to send letters. Electronic mail therefore prevents alargenumber of trees from getting axed it also saves the fuelneeded for transportation.

Advertising tool:- now a days many individuals and

companies are using the email service to advertise theirproducts service etc.

Data storage:- The providers of e mail service offer enoughspace for data storage also the process of sorting andarranging mails as per the subject, data etc, is made quite

eas for users.

DISADVANTAGES OF E MAIL:-

Viruses:-These are computer programs which have the potentialto harm a computer system. Viruses copy themselves and furtherinfect the computer. Recipients need to scan the mails since,viruses are transmitted through them and have the potential toharm computer systems.

Internet Access is Required:-There are many parts of theworld where people don't have access to the Internet. The emaildoesn't serve any purpose in such areas.

Need to check the inbox regularly: In order to stayupdated, one has to check his email account regularly.

Not suitable for business : Since the content posted viaemails is considered informal, there is a chance of businessdocuments going unnoticed. Thus, urgent transactions andespecially those requiring signatures are not managed throughemails.

PROTOCOLS:-

What is a protocols?“ Protocol is a set of rules”. A protocol is a

standard method which enables.

Communication between processes. (Potentially running on different machines) acollection of rules and procedures.

S M T P :- S M T P is short for “ Simple Mail Transfer 

Protocol”. A protocol used for sending e mails from one serverto another. It can only be used to send e mail message.

I C M P Protocol:- Internet Control Message Protocolis a which makes it possible to manage information

relating to errors on networked machines.

S N M P Protocol:- S N M P Means simple Network

management protocol. It is a protocol which enables network

administrators to manage network devices and diagnosenetwork problems.

P O P:- Pop stands of “ Post Office Protocol” and is aprotocol that is used to receive e mail

I M A P:-This stands for Internet Message Accesses

Protocol. This is an email service that enables you toaccess your email client and your pop e mail account

from different locations and different computers.

FIP : File Transfer Protocol

Telnet Protocol:- The Telnet protocol is a standardinternet protocol enabling terminals and applicationsto interface over the Internet this protocol provides thebasic rules

NEWS GROUPS

A Newsgroup is an Internet baseddiscussion about a particular topic. Thesetopics range from sports, investing, teenproblems

Accessing newsgroups:-

To view and post messages to a newsgroup you need

a newsreader. A newsreader is a program that connects youto a news server on the Internet.

E mail client may be a newsreader

Some web browsers such as internet explorer and

netscape come with newsreaders

 TYPES OF NEWSGROUPS:-

Binary Newsgroups:-Binary newsgroup are strictly for posting

binary files. Binary files are non textual files most oftenprograms graphics. Music or multimedia content incompressed formats

* Moderated newsgroups:-

A moderated newsgroup has one or more

individuals who must approve articles before they areposted at large. A separate address is used for thesubmission of posts . The first newsgroups appearedin 1984 under mod according to RFC 2235 “ Hobbes

The newsgroup administrator of a news serverdecides how long articles are kept on his

server. Different servers will have differentretention times for the same newsgroup somemay keep articles for as little as one or two

weeks others may hold them for many months.There are currently well over

100.000 usenet newsgroups but only 20.000 or

so of these are active. Newsgroups very inpopularity with some newsgroups only getting afew posts a month.

HOW NEWSGROUPS WORK:-

Newsgroup servers are hosted by various

organizations and institutions. Most (internet serviceproviders) host their own (news server) or rentaccess. To one for their subscribers. There are also anumber of companies who sell access to premiumnews servers.

Every host of a news server maintainsagreements with other news servers to regularly

synchronize. When a user posts to one news serverthe message is stored locally. That server thenshares the message with the servers that areconnected to it if both carry the newsgroup and from

those servers to servers that they are connected to

 CONCLUSION:-

 Now a day‟s e mail or electronic mail plays an

major role in general purpose and now it includingeducation field also present days every teachers

and students have its own e mail address andworking through the e mail totally e mail is a verygood way for excluding our thoughts feelings andideas through the e mail.
