Students, faculty and staff were treated to a visit from the Notre Dame mascot, pep band and cheerleaders during a pep rally on March 16th. As the band played rousing fight songs, we all became fans of the Fighting Irish...at least for the afternoon! Students learned an Irish jig, heard about the different instruments in the band and saw amazing acrobatic routines. We are so grateful to the Fighting Irish for stopping by our school to share their school spirit with our students! On March 17th, PTO held our annual school auction. Many from the school and parish chose to celebrate St. Patrick's Day by attending the auction—having fun while supporting Catholic education at OLG! We are so grateful for the many parent volunteers who donated long hours to make this event so successful. PTO president Shannon Cappuccio put together a dedicated team of volunteers who gathered auc- tion items, solicited advertisements for the auction program and designed the program, decorated the gym and cleaned up afterwards. After this reassurance Jesus went on to explain to them once more how his death and resurrection were foretold in the scriptures. At this point he did not pose complicated questions to test their understanding; instead, he gave them a task: to preach repentance and forgiveness of sins "to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem" (Acts 24:49). Stop and think. This is not "Give a few hours of your time, and we'll consider you've done your part." What Jesus was giving them was an all-consuming, life-long mis- sion. They were his chosen followers, his disciples, but now the time for learning was over. They must become apostles, the ones sent on a mission. Every time we come together to celebrate the Eucharist, we are offered the love of God through word and sacrament. We are remind- ed of God's saving deeds and wonderful promises, and we are given food for the journey. Finally, we are urged to go forth to love and serve the Lord. He is Real —An Easter Reflection—

Fundamental to us as Christians is our belief that Jesus Christ really died on the cross, that he was truly raised from the dead, and that he will return at the end of time as he promised. It is clear from Luke’s Gospel (Luke 24:35-48) that the risen Jesus was not a disem-bodied spirit, or an illusion of the grief-stricken dis-ciples. On that first Easter the disciples, as wit-nesses to Jesus' death, were over-whelmed with joy to see him risen to new life. When Jesus appeared among them he told them he was no ghost, and to prove his reali-ty invited them to touch his hands and feet. Then he asked for a piece of baked fish and ate it in front of them. This is not "Give a few hours of your time, and we'll consider you've done your part." What Jesus was giving them was an all-consuming, life-long mis-sion. They were his chosen followers, his disciples, but now the time for learning was over. They must become apostles, the ones sent on a mission. Every time we come together to celebrate the Eucharist, we are offered the love of God through word and sacrament. We are remind-ed of God's saving deeds and wonderful promises, and we are given food for the journey. Finally, we are urged to go forth to love and serve the Lord. THE RETURN OF EASTER

The return of Easter should be to the Christian life the call of a trumpet. It is the news of a great victory. It is the solution of a great perplexity. It is the assurance of a great triumph.

March is a Month of Giving At their March meeting, Kids Path speaker, Jane Gibson (pictured left) spoke to the Wom-

en’s Club about this wonderful program. Women’s Club members collected items for St. Patrick’s Day goodie bags—full of snacks, games and other treats—that they donated to Kids Path.

Also at their March meeting, the generous

members of the Women’s Club collected items to

help Sister Gretchen support the needs of a

local refugee family.

February Fun! Women’s Club members gathered at Bravo for lunch and fellowship at their February meeting.

Spring Reading Fair at Barnes & Noble A great time to get Summer Reading Books Our Lady of Grace School Library and Barnes & Noble at Friendly Center will be hosting a Reading Fair from Thursday, May 10th – Wednesday, May 16th, 2012 with all the proceeds going to the school library. Remember that Mother’s Day is May 13th and a gift from Barnes & Noble is a great way to show your appreciation for those special women in your life. It is also a great time to get birthday, graduation, Father’s Day and teacher appreciation gifts and to prepare for a summer full of wonderful reading! Middle school students from OLG will be able to purchase books that will be on the Required Summer Reading List and those on the Battle of the Books List. Graduating 8th graders will be able to get books from the local high school’s summer reading lists and all ages will find lots of books for reading fun. There will be special student presentations on Thursday, May 10th, Monday, May 14th and Tuesday, May 15th. Also, at 9am on Friday morning, May 11th, we would like to invite parents and friends to come to Barnes & Noble and enjoy a free cup of coffee, visit with friends and take some time to shop. Everyone is welcome! Just let the cashiers know you would like your purchases credited to Our Lady of Grace School. This event is open to parishioners, families and friends, so please spread the word and support Our Lady of Grace School Library.

OLG School Raises Money for Breast Cancer Prevention

As part of its curriculum, Our Lady of Grace School emphasizes not only academic excellence but community service. Each year, students devote part of their com-munity service efforts towards raising money to fund a Mammography Scholarship at Moses Cone Hospital. One of the largest fundraisers is "Panthers for Pink" dur-ing which students bring in a dollar to be allowed to dress-down in pink. Students also host a "Panthers for Pink" event during one of their basketball games. This year, OLG students raised $1,185.00 through their efforts. This money enables under-insured women to afford mammograms.

Kindergarteners in Mrs. Jean Williams' class at Our Lady of Grace School pose with a bookcase that they created based on Eric Carle's books. Students chose symbols that represented their favorite Carle books and, with parent help, put those images on the bookcase. Students donated the bookshelf to OLG's annual auction as a fundraiser.

MISSION STATEMENT In the Eucharist we receive the true Christ—the foundation of our Church. With Christ in us, we form, nurture and promote love, respect for human dignity, Christian values and teachings within our family, parish, and community through worship and service.

Rick Horne was awarded the Silver Beaver Award at the ONSC Council Recognition Ban-quet on March 15th at the Koury Convention Center. The Silver Beaver Award is the high-est council level award given by the Boy Scouts of America. Recipients of this award are registered adult leaders who have made an impact on the lives of youth through ser-vice given to the council. The Silver Beaver is an award given to those who implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self sacrifice, dedi-cation, and many years of service. Although the Silver Beaver is recognition for the years of work that Rick has done for the Old North State Council, we have all benefited from his dedication and leadership on behalf of our Troop. Please join us in congratulating Mr. Horne for earning this well deserved honor!

CONGRATULATIONS!

The next Red Cross Blood Drive at Our Lady of Grace will be held on Saturday, May 26th from 8:30am to 1pm in the school cafeteria.
