Happy Late Spring and Summer to all of our Friends!

How would you like to have your name displayed on

our floor at the FV Community Center? Do you

remember when we purchased our Center? It had a

concrete floor, no walls, & one bathroom. The first

improvements we made were more bathrooms and floor covering. That

same tile is what you see today when you walk into the Great Hall.

After 25 years and thousands of feet, the floors are tired. So, we are

asking you to participate in the Floor of Fame project. We believe we

have a simple, reasonable plan to pay for the floor covering and whether

you live near or far; use the Center every day or only visited once, you

will want to participate by having your name on a tile(s).

There are many sources of funds for this project including a grant from

DeKalb County Community Foundation and The Bradley T. Federow

Perpetual Charitable Trust and larger gifts from area corporations and

organizations. The Board of Directors have designated proceeds from

the Draw Down, Mattress Sale and Township donations to this project.

Everyone who visits the Center can participate in a fun and creative

way to add new flooring to the community center. This project includes

the large room, kitchen, and service room and will outlast the old tile

floor by years and years.

*Any, funds raised over and above the cost of the floor will be

designated for the parking lot repair.

We have already reached $19,500 towards our goal of $24,000!!

Here’s the Plan:

For $5, $25 depending on the location of the tile you choose and the

number of tiles you purchase, you can help us cover the remaining cost

of the floor update.

How Does This Work?

1. Tell us how many floor tiles you want to purchase. One for yourself;

or one for each member of your family.

2. Tell us where you want your picture taken. $5/per floor tile around

the perimeter of the room; or $25/tile in the middle of the room.

3. Can’t get here for a picture? We will make a sign with your name on

it to cover your floor tile(s); take a picture and send it to you.

4. We are also inviting the organizations using our hall to participate in

the project. Do you belong to a group that uses the hall? Ask each

member to purchase a $5 or $25 tile We will take a picture of your group

together for your scrap book.

* Remaining funds (if any) will be utilized for Parking Lot Repair.

Thank you for your continued participation and support.

Page 3: HE KEY WORD

Executive Director’s Message Continued Some have asked if they can keep the dirty old floor tile? Nope, you get the picture of you

standing on the tile. We will make a scrapbook with our copy of all who helped. We will

dispose of the old tiles. Our Promise to you? To continue to provide a fantastic place for

you to gather. Come out to the Center and check out our Floor of

Fame fundraiser! A big thank you to those who have already

purchased tiles!

Sincerely,

Fox Valley Older Adult Services, Executive Director

Adult Day Service

4 | The Key Word

Adult Day Service can help you keep loved ones at home, where they want to be, while you can maintain balance in your life. Adult Day Service/Respite Care is a service providing families and caregivers with peace of

mind and the ability to continue working and caring for family, knowing their loved ones are receiving personal care throughout the day by trained staff. Adult Day Service is social, physical and mental stimulation in a family oriented setting with meals and activities provided during the day. We offer a professional and compassionate level of community based care for adults who are challenged (dementia, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, physically disabled, etc.) or who are socially isolated. A registered full time Nurse, Certified Nursing Assistants and Activity Assistants are always on duty to provide a unique and personal day service for your loved one.

Celebrating Older Americans’ Month We are proud to introduce - Queenie! Known as the “Fashion Queenie” of Adult Day Service (ADS) because of the lovely clothes her daughter buys for her, Queenie looks fab everyday! Originally from Mississippi, she has lived in Illinois for years and now lives

in Oswego with her daughter and her family. She worked at the University of Illinois in the Health and Well-being field. She was also treasurer of the

Her hobbies used to include doing puzzles and reading. Now she enjoys adult coloring, playing bingo, dice games, watching “Criminal Minds” and spending time with her family. Like many older Americans, Queenie is a very caring and giving person. She is very protective of her friends and the staff at ADS and is always trying to assist them activities.

She is very cooperative and pleasant to be with. Queenie tries to reassure other clients who may be upset. She never wants anyone to be left out.

During her time in ADS, Queenie is assured of having fun and being in a safe environment while always being our “ADS Fashionista”.

Perhaps you know someone, like Queenie, who could benefit from ADS. Give us a call today at 815-786-9404 Ext. 106

Home Services

6 | The Key Word

Our Home Services Aides

keep You living independently in your own home!

People often ask why we are one of the preferred

Home Services agencies available to all residents

Of DeKalb, Kane, Kendall and LaSalle Counties.

Here are some of the reasons Fox Valley Older Adult Ser-

vices Home Services is preferred not only by clients and their families but also highly

recommended by all Senior Service Agencies. FVOAS HS Aides are Insured & Bonded,

Background Checked & Finger Printed, Pre-Service Trained and have to have proof of vehicle

insurance. Our agency handles all quality assurance, payroll processing

and scheduling in house. All complaints or concerns are immediately

addressed by our trained and certified office staff.

Be sure your HS Agency has all of these attributes!

If the aide you are thinking of hiring did not perform the necessary above

procedures, this means they could have previous arrests, be a con artist

and might also be responsible for their own scheduling and billing.

Our quality assurance standards are State certified through the Illinois Departments of Aging,

Public Health and Rehabilitation Services.

We also offer respite care to caregivers! Companionship and socialization are often the best remedies to avoid falls and early,

unnecessary nursing home placement. Through a personal care-plan process of assessment,

scheduling and matching just the right aide to client, we can assist you with light

housekeeping, errands, personal assistance, meal prep, companionship and more.

Introducing 2 new members of our Home Services Team - Taylor Minnis, Scheduling Coordinator, has been a vital member of the HS team

for quite some time. Applauds to Taylor for doing such a great job in one of the

most challenging jobs of the department. Taylor is from a great big family of step

parents and has a darling daughter. She loves to take care of people and looks for-

ward to growing with FVOAS. She was a cheer leader and dancer. Taylor loves

good ole chick flicks with happy endings, Thanksgiving and that FVOAS is so

family oriented.

Jen Carpenter, Kane County Manager, was born in Canada and comes to FVOAS

with a lot of caregiving experience. Jen has a son and a daughter. Her husband

Chris works for Pella Windows. She loves horses, dogs and woodworking. Jen

had hands on experience, lovingly caring for her Mom for 3 1/2 years and working

at an equine therapeutic facility for children. Her caregiving experience with her

parents brought her to FVOAS. Jen is based in our recently opened Batavia Satellite

office. Watch for upcoming Open House info. She loves ski vacations, the outdoors, fly fishing

and going back to Canada to visit family. Congratulations to Magda Velasco for her Honorable Mention

for the Mary I. Hill Homecare Aide of the Year!

Why are trees “So Forgiving?”

Because in the Fall

they “Let it go”.

And in the Spring

they “Turn over a new leaf”!

Why is the letter “A”

like a flower?

Because a bee “B”

comes after it.
