HE SHALL BE CALLED

WONDERFUL

Page 2: he will be called wonderful

Isaiah 9:6-7 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the

government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful,

Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of Hisgovernment and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it

with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the

LORD of hosts will perform this.

HIS NAME WILL BE CALLED…• Isa 9:6-7 is recognized as one of the most well known

prophecies of Jesus.• Verse 6 lists five things “His name will be called.”• This does not mean that these things would be his name.• It means he would be known as these things.

– Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

– Matthew 1:23-25 "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us." 24 Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, 25 and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name JESUS.

– He would be known as “God with us.” Immanuel• Tonight we want to look at the first of these, “His name will be

called wonderful.”

IN HIS BIRTH

Mat 1:20 But while he thought about

these things, behold, an angel of the Lord

appeared to him in a dream, saying,

"Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to

take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

IN HIS MIRACLES

Mat 11:5 "The blind see and the lame

walk; the lepers are cleansed and the

deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

IN HIS TEACHINGS

Mat 7:28-29 And so it was, when Jesus

had ended these sayings, that the

people were astonished at His

teaching, for He taught them as one

having authority, and not as the scribes.

IN HIS RESISTANCE TO SIN

Heb 4:15 For we do not have a High

Priest who cannot sympathize with our

weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.

IN HIS ACCOMPLISHING HIS

WORK

John 17:4 "I have glorified You on the

earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.

IN HIS FULFILLING OF PROPHECIES

• Herbert lockyer lists 26 prophecies of the

last week of Jesus' life and their fulfillment.

• Luke 24:44 Then He said to them, "These

are the words which I spoke to you while I

was still with you, that all things must be

fulfilled which were written in the Law of

Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.”

IN HIS FULFILLING OF PROPHECIES

• Isaiah 53:1-12 Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? 2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him. 3 He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. 4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But He waswounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. >>>

IN HIS FULFILLING OF PROPHECIES

6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth. 8 He was taken from prison and from judgment, And who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of My people He was stricken. 9 And they made His grave with the wicked-- But with the rich at His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was any deceit in His mouth. >>>

IN HIS FULFILLING OF PROPHECIES

10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand. 11 He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, And He shall divide the spoil with the strong, Because He poured out His soul unto death, And He was numbered with the transgressors, And He bore the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors.

IN HIS SACRIFICE

Phil 2:5-8 Let this mind be in you which

was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in

the form of God, did not consider it

robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made

Himself of no reputation, taking the form

of a bondservant, and coming in the

likeness of men. 8 And being found in

appearance as a man, He humbled

Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

VIII. IN HIS RESURRECTION

Mat 28:1-6 Now after the Sabbath, as the first day

of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and

the other Mary came to see the tomb. 2 And

behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel

of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and

rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. 3

His countenance was like lightning, and his

clothing as white as snow. 4 And the guards shook

for fear of him, and became like dead men. 5 But

the angel answered and said to the women, "Do

not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who

was crucified. 6 "He is not here; for He is risen, as

He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

HIS NAME WAS CALLED WONDERFUL

• Truly the story of Jesus is the most wonderful story ever told.

• But it is not just a story.

• That story has a profound effect on every soul that has or will walk this earth.

• What have you done with this Man who is called wonderful?
