headboard steps

I bought 1/2” plywood at Lowe’s, and cut it into 3 equal panels (or rather, I had Lowe’s cut it for me because it’s pouring rain, and I didn’t want to drag our saw out of the shed…can’t wait for a garage!) I found the center of each panel so I could create holes (later to be my “tufts”). Along the center line, I made two holes…my panels are 30” high, so I did a hole at 10” from the top and from the bottom. I purchased high density foam, and cut it to the exact size of the panels, and stuck it on using spray adhesive…. Then I covered it with batting to smooth out any seams, and used a staple gun to staple the batting around the back edge…

I bought 1/2” plywood at Lowe’s, and cut it into 3 equal panels (or rather, I had Lowe’s cut it for me

because it’s pouring rain, and I didn’t want to drag our saw out of the shed…can’t wait for a garage!) I

found the center of each panel so I could create holes (later to be my “tufts”). Along the center line, I

made two holes…my panels are 30” high, so I did a hole at 10” from the top and from the bottom.

I purchased high density foam, and cut it to the exact size of the panels, and stuck it on using spray

adhesive….

Then I covered it with batting to smooth out any seams, and used a staple gun to staple the batting

around the back edge…

I found a super cheap curtain panel at Ross for only $10, so I used that as my fabric to cover the

headboard. I just ironed it, wrapped each panel and used the staple gun again.

When each panel was wrapped, they looked like this. Almost done….but not quite!

But I had forgotten buttons and didn’t want to go back to the store. So, I found 6 nickels, and covered

each with fabric…

Then I just used upholstery thread (and a big ass needle ☺) to thread the “buttons” threw the pre-

drilled holes, and stapled them tight. Voila! (I’m not quite sure what math or measurements I was using

for that middle panel. The bottom button is clearly not at 10inches like the rest, but you can’t really see

that anyway with my pillows! ☺)

I added some picture hangers on the back. Hanging was honestly the trickiest part! Getting them even

and tight against each other was a nightmare….they’re still slightly off if you look close, but I’m over it!

☺…for now at least.
