Count down ..... Exam starts in 2 weeks!

Exam

The school will be closing at 13:00 from Monday, 27 May 2019. This will give our learners the opportunity to prepare properly for the exam.

The After-care will also have a third study session available. Times will be set accordingly.

Study rosters I visited the classes, this past week, in order to motivate learners to compile study rosters for the exam. I am thankful that many learners already did that and started preparing for the coming exam. It is wonderful to hear that parents support the learners at home to start preparing for the mid-year exam.

Remember: “Planning takes the ‘crises’ from ‘management’.

Guidelines for the exam

See that your child has a day planner in which the subjects, as well as when it must be revised, is written down.

Let him / her mark down what he / she already wrote or studied.

When he / she is finished with studying, do revision with him / her and ask questions to see if he / she knows the work.

Help your child by getting everything ready for the next day, the night before the exam and lessen the stress in the morning.

Help your child to set reachable, measurable and realistic goals for himself / herself.

Listen when he / she talks about the exam. Help him / her with study methods and give him / her the opportunity to give input.

Aim to acknowledge and reward positive behaviour, rather than focusing on what he / she is doing wrong.

Be realistic about your child’s abilities. Compliment him / her when he / she does well in the exam, be aware of remarks such as: “Boy / Girl, you normally get 90% for Maths, why did you only get 70%.”

After-Care As you know, the school has an After-Care where there is supervision for learners in the afternoon. The After-Care offers meals and homework classes until 17:15 every afternoon. This service is presented at a minimal fee of R680-00 per month and creates a safe environment in which there not only is supervision for your child but also the opportunity to do homework and prepare for the coming exam - THERE WILL ALSO BE THREE STUDY SESSIONS AVAILABLE DURING THE EXAM.

Sing in Harmonie Congratulations to both our choirs that qualified for the next round of kykNET’s Sing in Harmonie competition. Thank you to the Riebie parents and staff for your positive support - you are winners!!!

On-Line Applications

As in the past few years, the Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners for 2020 must apply on-line at

schools. The On-Line system will be activated from 08:00 on 13 May 2019. Parents must still watch out for more information in the media, as well as our school’s

newsletter.

According to the system, learners in Hasie Kwassie are not assured of a space in Grade 1 at Van Riebeeckpark Primary. The system gives preference to learners, who stay in the

school’s vicinity. Parents must please apply on 13 May 2019 and hand in all the necessary documents at the office within 7 school days.

For any inquiries, contact Ms Naomi Cornelessen in the office.

Grade R (2020) enrollments

We remind parents that applications for the Grade R (2020) enrollments are already open. The closing date for Grade R applications is 31 May 2019 but it will be advisable to apply as soon as possible.

Application forms are available in the office from Ms Naomi Cornelessen.

“Reading Rocket” Reading programme “Reading Rocket” is a good reading programme that develops your child’s comprehension, reading speed and spelling. The school presents this programme for the Grade 1 - 3 learners. The development of reading skills is very important to each learner to reach success in Grade 4 where their comprehension is an important factor when they complete exam papers.

Special offer: We would like your child to continue with his/her reading development on the programme. Stimulus Maksima provides this service free; the only requirement is that you have a computer to install the programme. Should you be interested, please send an email to Hannelie at [email protected] for more information.

Intersen Phase Exam Demarcations Learners already received the exam roster and demarcation for the coming exam. We request that parents help learners to compile a study roster. Should you have any inquiries regarding the demarcation on a specific subject, please contact the subject teacher directly. Academic inquiries We request that parents with academic inquiries please contact the subject teacher. If you do not receive the necessary feedback, you may contact the head of the subject and thereafter the subject controller. If you send an email, you are welcome to send a copy to the two deputy principals.
