The Master of Acupuncture

and Oriental Medicine

program at AOMA provides

a supportive, yet

challenging, environment

as it prepares students

for rewarding careers.

Where your ambition & values align.

Students of acupuncture and Chinese medicine come from all walks of life. They’re massage

therapists and corporate executives, yoga teachers and accountants, medical doctors and

musicians. They may be parents, activists, veterans, or athletes. They may be recent college

graduates, or exploring their second or third career.

Yet within this diversity is commonality: the need for both personal growth and intellectual

understanding, a desire to live life in balance and discover new truths, and a definition of

professional success that includes integrity, compassion, and service.

When you study Chinese medicine at AOMA, you’ll discover a life of both passion and

purpose. A place where professional achievement meets personal fulfi llment. Through the

art of healing, you’ll transform the lives of your patients, as well as your own.

What is Chinese medicine?

encompassing acupuncture and other practices such as herbal medicine, mind-body

exercise, Asian bodywork, and nutrition, the essence of Chinese medicine is the people.

Both the physician and the patient are interested in a healing process that includes the

mind, body, and spirit.

A holistic practice, Chinese medicine focuses on healing the root causes of disease in

addition to treating symptoms. It is non-invasive, patient-centered care for the promotion

of health and well-being.

Chinese medicine sees all parts of the body, mind, and spirit as being interrelated and

interconnected. The patient’s symptoms are observed in concert with his or her psycho-

emotional health, lifestyle, and other factors. It unites the parts with the whole, linking

the health of organ systems to the health of the individual, and linking individuals to

the world around them.

AOMA’s herbal program

is one of the most

comprehensive in the nation,

with education in herbal

theory, identifi cation and

function of more than

300 herbs and their

combination in formulas to

restore states of health.

Discover the art & spirit of healing.

What does it mean to study acupuncture and Chinese medicine? It means helping people

in ways you may have never imagined.

What if you could learn about someone’s health by feeling his pulse? Talk to a patient

about how her mental state is affecting her hormones? Improve chronic conditions like

allergies, insomnia, and headaches? Or even help someone stop smoking, lose weight

or conceive a child?

What would those skills mean to the mind, body, and spirit of your patients? And just as

importantly, what would they mean to you?

Through AOMA’s graduate program in acupuncture and Chinese medicine, you’ll embark

on a rigorous, comprehensive education that empowers you to discover the healer within.

About the program

AOMA’s master’s-level graduate program facilitates your development into a compassionate,

effective practitioner of Chinese medicine. Through classroom theory and hands-on

clinical internships, each of the program’s core components promotes mastery of an essential

element of Chinese medical practice.

In addition to basic and advanced acupuncture needling and medical diagnostic techniques,

our comprehensive program includes foundational theories of Chinese medicine, extensive

education in Chinese herbal medicine, fundamentals of Western biomedicine, and more

than 900 hours of supervised clinical practice. Recognizing that internal development of

qi enhances focus and clarity, our program also includes a core component of training in

taiji and qigong.

AOMA graduates are successful economically, socially, and personally. More than 90%

of AOMA graduates receive licensure within one year of graduation and more than 90%

continue to work in the field of Chinese medicine.

The impact AOMA graduates make, however, goes far beyond their personal success.

AOMA alumni speak at national conferences, author books and journal articles about

Chinese medicine, and go on to teach at the graduate level. They become part of the

national dialogue about the integration of acupuncture with Western medicine, and offer

solutions to the challenge of health care access in the U.S. and around the world.

AOMA students and alumni find a place in a movement larger than themselves. You can too.

Why AOMA?

With an internationally renowned faculty, strong leadership, and demonstrated student

success, AOMA’s reputation as a national leader in the fields of acupuncture and Chinese

medicine, health care, and policy-making continues to grow.

AOMA is the first stand-alone, single-degree granting school of acupuncture and Chinese

medicine in the nation to be regionally accredited. Our exceptional program of study attracts

students from around the country and around the world.

We also offer extensive student resources, including an herbal lab, herbal medicine center,

a learning garden where herbs are grown in conjunction with the American Botanical

Council, a dedicated mind-body practice space, and one of the largest Chinese medical

libraries in the United States.
