  • Meet our facultyMare Chapman (MA) is a psychotherapist, meditation instructor, and author of Unshakeable Confidence, the Freedom to Be Our Authentic Selves: Mindfulness for Women. She graduated from Wayne State University with a BS in Occupational Therapy, and then practiced at Lafayette Clinic, a psychiatric hospital in Detroit. After that, she taught psychiatric occupational therapy at Wayne State and UW–Madison. In 1976 she founded and directed Dane County’s first day-treatment services

program for adults with chronic mental illness, now called Yahara House. In 1983 she began a private practice, and in 1994 she shifted its focus to mindfulness-based psychotherapy after earning a master’s degree in counseling from Norwich University. She feels that mindfulness is the most effective and empowering tool for transforming deeply engrained patterns, and for handling the life’s challenges with greater ease and stability. Learn more about her at marechapman.com.

Aggie Goldenholz (MA, BCC) is a mindfulness-based chaplain, trained grief group counselor, and holistic healing practitioner specializing in trauma healing and stress management. She has been an ordained, post-denominational rabbi and Jewish educator for over 40 years. In her work at Aurora Sinai Medical Center, she supports patients, families, and staff as they experience life’s joys, challenges, illnesses, deaths, and healing moments. She also trains and mentors a variety of groups, from chaplain

residents and interns to Jewish volunteer visitors. She teaches and speaks about a variety of topics, including ethical will writing, caring for the caregiver, creating healing through storytelling, and Jewish grieving practices and healing rituals.

Doug Smith (MDiv, MA, MS) is a seasoned trainer, consultant, counselor, and author of several books, including The Tao of Dying, The Tao of Grieving, and Being a Wounded Healer. In addition to being co-creator of UW–Madison’s Grief Support Specialist Certificate, he has worked for hospices, hospitals, addiction treatment programs, and universities across the United States and Canada. Earning master’s degrees in three different healthcare disciplines has helped him develop a truly holistic

perspective. Smith has also experienced grief in his personal life, after the deaths of his brother and two daughters.

Molly Tomony (MA, ATR-BC, LPC) is a child and family therapist for the Rainbow Project in Madison, Wisconsin. Before this, she worked as a bereavement counselor in a hospice setting for 18 years. She has extensive experience running grief, family change, and trauma groups, and she has written several manuals on these topics for schools. She also teaches in the art therapy department at Edgewood College and the Master of Social Work program at UW–Madison.

Tom Zuba is a life coach, speaker, and author of Permission to Mourn, A New Way to Do Grief. Through one-on-one and group work, he helps his clients learn to live with the death of someone they love, offering tools, knowledge, and wisdom to create a full and joy-filled life. In addition to facilitating workshops and speaking at conferences across the country, he offers grief training to medical professionals and students in disciplines such as social work, psychology, and nursing. He has

experienced grief firsthand, having lost his son, daughter, and wife.
