Pharmacy Technician ReviewProgram Description
This course provides a review of pharmacy principles and procedures to prepare entry-level pharmacy technicians to challenge the PCTE National Pharmacy Technicians Exam. Course content includes review of various disease states, basic physiology, pharmacy law, ethics, andthe fundamentals of technician training. Emphasizes pharmacy abbreviations and generic medications, prescription processing and hands-on compounding techniques. The course willintroduce students to various settings in pharmacy practice, including the community, hospital,managed care, mail order, and long-term care. Information on qualifying for the pharmacy certification examination will be provided. Concurrent registration in Pharmacy Mathematics isrecommended but not required. Textbook required. (2.5 AEC)
Pharmacy Mathematics (Optional)Review of pharmacy mathematic calculations used in a variety of pharmacy practice settings.Examines concepts in dosage calculations, metric system and conversions as applied to pharmacy. Simulated case situations directly related to the student’s field of study are included.Highly recommended for those pursuing the PCTB National Pharmacy Technicians Exam.
