Health Care Without Walls

High School Outreach

Imagine it’s a cold winter night, you haven’t had anything to eat all day, and you think you’re beginning to come down with something. Tonight you will be sleeping on the ground. Or in a

shelter, perhaps far from wherever you call home.

Getting medical care is challenging under the best of circumstances, and can seem unattainable for many. Homeless women — alone or with their families — are one of the fastest growing segments of the homeless population.

Homeless women are often traumatized and suffer from one or more serious health conditions, and homeless children have higher rates of asthma, obesity, acute and chronic illnesses.

We rely on the generosity of others to fund our programs and to spread awareness of the importance in making healthcare accessible to all. Your fundraising efforts can make all the difference improving the lives of those in need.

Health Care Without Walls bridges the gap between vulnerable populations and mainstream medical care.

Founded in 1999 by Dr. Roseanna Means, HCWW provides supplemental healthcare services and care coordination to 2,500 homeless women and their children each year in eight Boston-area shelters. In the words of one of our clients, we prevent these people from “falling through the cracks” of the traditional healthcare system.

Our services range from diagnostic tests and procedures, to on-site care, to health education and counseling. We offer strep tests, diabetes monitoring, and over-the-counter medications.

We are humbled by the strength and resiliency these women and families show and are honored to be able to support them in their journey.
