Living down here on the Costa del Sol with all of its blue skies, glorious beaches, cheap beer and constant sun is something we all have to grin and bear. When friends and relatives ring from the frozen wastes of the north and give details of their various illnesses , we all sit back and think ‘hmmm I can’t think of the last time I had a cold’. And that’s because we’re really pretty lucky because the constant sun down here is not only giving us a golden glow on the outside, but it’s giving us a glow inside as well. It comes in the form of vitamin D.

Boosts the immune systemRecent studies into vitamin D have found that it truly is remarkable for health. It has been found to activate and boost our immune system and fight off infectious bacteria and viruses which is why we rarely get a cold down here.

The rest of the world isn’t so lucky and it’s estimated that a billion people are deficient in Vitamin D. Large scale deficiency in Vitamin D is one of the reasons for large scale flu epidemics. Vitamin D has been found to be 800% more effective in stopping flu than vaccines.

Fights cancerVitamin D has been found to be far better than using pharmaceutical drugs to prevent and treat cancer and it’s cheaper too!

Recent findings with treating melanoma, the skin cancer was that all patients suffering with it had low levels of Vitamin D, yet we’re always being told to stay out of the sun to prevent skin cancer!

It’s also important to note that there are recent investigations into the hazards of sun cream causing the melanoma through the chemicals contained in the cream itself and that the sun is not the cause. Important also to note that Sunscreen blocks Vitamin D getting to the body and thus increasing the chance of melanoma.

Basically, as long as you treat yourself and the sun with respect then you’ll be fine.

Stops depressionVitamin D prevents depression naturally which means no side-effects, in comparison to the hideous side-effects of pharmaceutical drugs. It is said that dopamine in the body is boosted which stops depression. And experiments have found that older people are 11 times less likely to have depression if they have high Vitamin D levels.

Boosts the brainThe power of your brain and your memory is increased with the sun with Vitamin D. Vitamin D protects the cells and signals pathways to the brain. Vit D also boosts antioxidant levels and detoxifies the brain.

Helps the heartVit D helps the heart and blood vessels, it creates healthy arteries. Vitamin D also remedies high blood pressure and reduces inflammation.

Weight lossVit D helps with weight loss and with the combination of sun and a properly balanced diet, Vitamin D increases fat loss and most importantly, for we who might have gained a few pounds through our

beer quota, is that the weight loss occurs around the stomach area specifically!

Among other benefits that Vitamin D gives us is protection against psoriasis, arthritis and even multiple sclerosis and it even prevents cavities in your teeth!

Lack of Vitamin DLack of Vitamin D brings stiffer arteries and an impaired heart. Rickets and weak bones are common in the elderly. Diabetes, Parkinson’s, premature ageing, restricted growth and a shorter lifespan are all after effects from limited Vitamin D.

But fear not, by taking increased Vitamin D for 6 months there is improvement.

Increasing your Vitamin DTo increase your Vit D, you don’t have to sunbathe for hours on end, just a morning walk will do.

Foods with high Vitamin D like herring, cod liver oil, eggs (notice how eggs are getting a bad press) and seafood such as salmon, oysters, catfish, sardines, or shrimp. Supplements can also be used.

OverallThe benefits of Vitamin D are still being investigated but needless to say, the results so far are pretty conclusive. With no Vitamin D in your system you’re far more likely to be ill and die early. Maximum use of Vitamin D and you’ve got every chance of beating everything around you. Interesting also that the ‘establishment’ seems to be restricting our use of the wonder vitamin. Funny that.

DIABETES & PANCREATITIS:

Causes: Long term excess consumption of wheat, refi ned sugars and starches. This causes infl ammation of the pancreas due to excess demand for pancreatic enzymes in the stomach, and inability of the pancreas to produce suffi cient insulin to metabolize sugars.

Beneficial foods:• String beans - juiced, 1 pint daily,

may be mixed with carrot juice.• Brussel sprouts - juiced,1 pint daily,

may be mixed with carrot juice.• Molasses - use only unsulphured

molasses, you must abstain from ALL refi ned starch and sugar, 2tbsp molasses in large cup of warm water 1-2 times daily.

Foods to avoid: All refi ned starch and sugar, overcooked meat, cooked potatoes, bananas, fi gs, dates, raisins, salt, pepper, mustard.

OBESITY: Causes: Excess adipose tissue deposited throughout the body, especially the buttocks, abdomen and thighs, owing to over consumption of refi ned sugar and starch and habitual consumption of incompatible food combinations. Obesity is sometimes caused by glandular disorders but such disorders are often a direct result of poor dietary habits.

Beneficial foods:• Carrot juice - 2 pints daily.• Carrot, beet and cucumber juice -

10oz/3oz/3oz, 2 pints daily.• Spinach and carrot juice -

6oz/ 10oz, 2 pints daily. • Cabbage and carrot juice -

mix half/half 1 pint daily.

Foods to avoid: Refi ned starch and sugar, overcooked meats, fatty meats, chocolate, pasteurized milk, cooked eggs, alcohol.

In spite of all the alleged advances in modern medicine we are still seeing an increase in diseases and degenerative conditions. For every sickness the only solution seems to be a pill and then another pill to counteract the side eff ects of the first pill, thus beginning an ever worsening cycle of stress and degenerative conditions in the body.

Therapeutic Foods & Juices

The following list contains some of the common ailments encountered today with a brief explanation on their causes, and

natural foods and juices that can be used to cure and prevent them. Also included is a list of foods to avoid. Remember all therapeutic

juices should be consumed raw immediately after extraction.

Page 5: Health & Fitness November

ARTHRITIS:Causes:Deposits of inorganic calcium in the cartilage of joints, which eventually form spurs causing intense pain and inhibiting movement of joints. Caused by incomplete digestion of incompatible foods and accumulation of toxic wastes throughout the system. The body dumps these inorganic minerals in the joints. Excess consumption of starch and sugar are major factors.

Beneficial foods:• Celery juice - 1 pint daily or 2

pints if mixed with carrot juice.• Grapefruit juice - made fresh

with no sugar, mix half/ half with distilled water ½ pints daily.

• Cherries - eat 1 pound on an empty stomach and no other food for 12 hours, continue for 1-3 days.

• Grapes - eat on their own 2-3 pounds a day for 1-5 days, chew skin seeds and pulp well before swallowing.

Foods to avoid: Incompatible combinations especially of protein and starch, pasteurized milk, cooked eggs, ice-cream, salt, excess of animal proteins.

COLDS: Causes:Colds are not caused by germs, but by accumulations of toxic mucus in the nasal passages that prevent the normal bathing and cleansing of nasal and sinus passages by clear moving mucus. Germs then attack these toxic wastes generating even more mucus and infl aming nasal and sinus passages. The best cure is a 3-day fast with twice daily colonics.

Beneficial foods:• Horseradish and lemon juice

- grate fresh radish and mix enough lemon juice to make a paste, take half tsp 2-3 times daily.

• Lemon juice - juice of 1-2 lemons in a glass of warm distilled water, sip slowly, 2- 3 times daily.

• Carrot juice - 2-3 pints daily.• Raw garlic - 2-3 cloves daily.

Foods to avoid: Pasteurized milk and all dairy products, all cooked food, all refi ned sugar and starch. Eat nothing but raw fruit and raw vegetable juice.
