Foreign Workers’ Health Insurance Mandate private health insurance for all foreign workers and improve workmen’s compensation coverage

• The scheme was extended to Sabah in July 2012 and Sarawak in February 2013. All sectors except maids and plantation workers are covered.

Clinical Research Malaysia Creating a supportive environment and complete ecosystem to grow number of trials, targeting 1,000 new trials by 2020

• The number of clinical studies have grown about 15 % a year. Top 3 therapies for clinical research were endocrinology, oncology and respiratory in 2012

Malaysian Pharmaceuticals Leverage patent expiry cliff by pursuing generic opportunities

• It now covers beyond generics, OTC, supplements, biologics and vaccines. A number of MNCs have shown interest in manufacturing here. A national database on the Malaysian pharmaceutical market is jointly been developed by MOH and IMS Health

Healthcare Travel Re-invigoration through a seamless customer experience, proactive alliances and niche marketing

• The growth in terms of numbers and revenue has been about 150 % for the past 2 years from 2010. The average bill size has also increased and we have managed to shift to beyond Indonesia even though Indonesia will continue to be the largest market.

Diagnostic Services Nexus (DSN) Create a scale of domestic teleradiology service for in-sourcing internationally

• This EPP faced a lot of challenges in management and implementation, getting the right cost model, technology and with enough full time radiologists.

Health Metropolis at University Malaya Developing a health metropolis : A world-class campus for healthcare and bioscience

• This project is delayed and awaiting MTES approval before MBPJ can consider. The main issue is traffic along Jalan University and the availability of public transport and the confirmation of MRT station.
