Educational Program HighlightsOpening Keynote: Haley Barbour, Former Governor of Mississippi

Haley Barbour is the former governor of Mississippi and the former chairman of the Republican Governor’s Association. Under Barbour’s leadership, Mississippi was put on a new path in job creation, education, healthcare, and energy.

Barbour was elected as governor in 2003 and reelected in 2007, making him the second Mississippi governor elected to a second consecutive term in over 100 years. His focus in office was on civil justice reform, controlling

spending, prudent management of the state health care program, and showcasing Mississippi’s status as an energy-producing state.

Barbour was praised for his handling of the Gulf Oil Spill and Hurricane Katrina. Following the hurricane, Barbour created the Governor’s Commission on Recovery, Rebuilding, and Renewal to develop opportunities for a strong recovery for South Mississippi.
