Green homes, for the greater good.

It’s quite probably your biggest investment.

It’s where you raise and enjoy your family.

It’s your castle, retreat and sanctuary.

Adelaide Green Homes want to change the way we think about new homes.

From what you want in a good home to all the good that a green home can do for you.

A home that takes new technologies and modern liveability but adds sustainable, green building innovations and a legacy of ongoing

cost efficiencies with a commitment to a positive future for our planet.

An Adelaide Green Home, — for the greater good.

The Goodness of Green, built in.

There are homes... and, there are green homes.— A green home embraces the power of

passive design and takes energy savings and efficiencies to a new level.

— A green home allows you control to create a healthier, more comfortable living space, year-round, in any climate.

— A green home creates ongoing protection for the environment and your resale value.

— A green home is your commitment towards a more ethical, compassionate and economically mindful future.

— A green home is a step toward the greater good of nature.

— A green home doesn’t cost the Earth. It’s saving it.

Adelaide Green Homes have a vision: good homes. Homes with no wasted, unusable spaces. Which will mean smaller homes. But, with functionality and liveability designed for you. The benefit? Lower cost to heat and cool your home. Less house cleaning time and more family time and absolute accuracy with building materials so a more affordable home.

That kind of goodness.

Adelaide Green Homes create spaces that do more than simply look good. We design homes with multiple aspects that connect you to the outdoors. Goodbye, long dark hallways and hello, light-filled, green space views from most rooms throughout your home. Natural views with natural light that makes you naturally feel better. Physically, spiritually, financially and collectively. Every AGH home looks and feels good because they’re, literally, good for you.

Built with ‘good’ in mind.

A 17-year study by Exeter University found that householders living in greener urban environments are likely to have lower levels of mental distress and higher levels of wellbeing. The findings back up a classic study on surgical patients that revealed faster recovery time for surgery patients who had a view of trees from their hospital bed.

Achieving the greatest energy efficiencies and human comfort benefits for your AGH home and your family comes down to a single, crucial aspect: Orientation.

Your home’s design, comfort and thermal performance depends on the sun, season, climate, surrounding landscape and local wind direction. Designed with all these elements in mind and your ‘green’ home will enjoy the benefits now and for generations to come.

Green Home Orientation. Looking to the Greater Good.

Orientation In the Southern hemisphere the correct and most beneficial orientation is facing north.

Winter Sun Cooler climates should utilise the winter sun orientation for natural warmth where the sun penetrates living area windows.

Natural light In design of your AGH home, think about how and when the sun will penetrate living areas - you’re looking for natural warmth and cool at the right times.

Landscaping Consider landscape around the proposed site and how things like other buildings, trees and the length of the block could affect solar benefits.

Prevailing Breezes Research prevailing breezes, these should be utilised to ensure they flow through the home.

Here are our top 5 orientation tips.

Page 8: Healthy Home. Happy Family. - Adelaide Green Homes · Adelaide Green Homes want to change the way we think about new homes. From what you want in a good home to all the good that

Passive Cooling is Good. Capturing and directing natural air movement through cross ventilation throughout your home you will cool your home and the people in it.

Your AGH home’s windows and doors are designed and precisely placed to capture natural breezes and have it flow across your home. Convective air movement adds efficiency, capturing cooler air through low windows. Hot air is released from higher windows naturally cooling your home without having to rely on auxiliary cooling. This saves money on your energy bills!

Shading’s Good. Here are your ‘green’ temperature control buttons. Purpose designed eaves, window awnings, shutters and pergolas and a variety of shady plantings. Then there’s movable shade devices like umbrellas, shade sails and trellises.

Simply shading your glass can block up to 90% of unwanted heat gain, especially on west and north facing walls during summer.

Insulation that’s Good. Insulation is all about control. AGH give that to you, through building design innovation. Manage your home’s thermal and you create tangible, ongoing benefits. In external walls, under roof cladding, in your roof space, inside internal walls and even under suspended timber floors. Well-insulated homes maintain a more constant temperature and for a longer period. That means lower energy costs for you and a smaller carbon footprint on our planet. That’s good for everyone.

Good Passive Solar Heating. The heart of Passive Solar is Thermal Mass, that collects the heat internally instead of externally to regulate internal temperatures. The north facing elevations of AGH homes are purpose-built to not only capture the direct solar heat but also store and release it internally, at night. Lightweight cladding building materials combined with reverse brick-veneer design helps solar heating work to it’s maximum efficiency. Add to that, energy-efficient window glazing and draught-free sealing and you have dramatically lower energy bills. Design, materials and building philosophies with green principles built in and you have a solution that’s technically and ethically better. That’s good.

Thermal Mass. The Greater Good. Thermal Mass is a product’s ability to hold temperature due to its density. This is Passive Design at its ‘good’ best. At AGH we choose to put the right building materials in the right places and use building materials thermal properties to our advantage. Capturing the winter sun from the north, directing it in to your house and locking it in thermal mass you create a natural heater. That stored warmth is then released into the home during the cooler night hours. By using low thermal mass products on the external of the building you are making sure that your home doesn’t hold unwanted hot and cold temperatures.

Doing a world of good. Passive Design.

Sealing your home. Well and truly. Stopping unwanted movement of hot and cold air into your home allows you to better control your internal temperatures. Installing seals and weather strips on all doors throughout a home, restricts unwanted air from entering the home.

Correct installation of insulation and wall wraps ensures your home is air tight.

Good sealing of your home is a good tactic in all climates using thermal break windows you can also stop hot and cold temperatures from conducting though aluminum frames from outside to inside of your home.

Windows and Glazing for goodness sake. The right choice of windows for your home is extremely important. In our AGH design process we help you choose what type of window should be used where. This includes the size of your window, it’s best position, what type of glass should be used and what are the best frames available to you.

Windows are important to let the sunlight and air in to your home but they also can easily allow hot and cold temperature to penetrate your home so we make sure we get this right!

Good old Vented Walls. Another, surprising but none the less, good building technology that sets Passive Design homes (and AGH) apart from the mainstream. Ventilated wall cavities are an old but effective building technique, that builders have for unfathomable reasons, stopped including. Despite it being perfectly suited for the Australian coastal climate and an invaluable element within Passive Design. Vented walling design allows air movement within your walls to stop unwanted temperature transfer. Vented Walls may be an ‘oldie’ in home building, but it’s a huge ‘goodie’ with AGH.

Proactive. Pro-Planet. Pro-Health. Pro-Family. Pro-Good. Summary Building a family home is a wonderful thing. Creating that family home utilising the ethical, environmental and mindful principles of Passive Design deserves each and every one of the ongoing benefits of goodness it will reap. Enjoy good, for good… for our planet, for your health, for your family and for generations to come.

Design to impress. Design that benefits. Designed for good. Each AGH home design has its own, distinct visual appeal and street presence. But look closer and the passive ‘green’ design features become clear. The size plus high and low positioning of windows. The width of the eaves. The clear line of sight into (and out of) each home.

And, of course, the cleverly considered thermal mass surfaces.

North facing elevations are a key aspect to AGH designs, specifically the heat capturing and storing capabilities… and consequent energy efficiencies generated by the home’s Thermal Mass performance.

Dan and Rebecca are the focused energy source behind this new AGH venture. Bringing hands on experience in line with a heart—felt commitment to innovation and proactive and sustainable green strategies.

Dan’s long and extensive industry experience has been built the right way. Hands on experience across the building trade. Now, combine that with Rebecca’s creative design and an unstoppable belief that a home can enhance a family’s health and happiness.

Because, together, AGH are ‘building goodness’.

That ‘goodness’ isn’t limited to your sustainable new home. AGH advise, educate and empower their clients, passing on complete understanding of green philosophies and the surprising breadth of ongoing benefits. Physically, financially, ethically and environmentally.

Yes. This provides the most stress free and best possible experience for every customer’s journey, but Dan and Rebecca go further, instilling AGH’s sustainable building techniques and green construction philosophies into their wider AGH family of tradies, stakeholders and supporters.

They are onto something special, and you’ve just found it.

We’re the first to admit it. Our very own construction industry is having a massive impact on our environment. The way we build is consuming more and more resources which has led to escalating amounts of waste thrown into smaller and fewer landfill sites. It’s also all the motivation we need.

We’re committed to stopping it, with a building journey of ‘good’ steps.

Like investing the time we need to precisely calculate and cost every aspect of each home’s design and construction resources.

Then, only using sustainable, local forest timber in all our homes’ frames, trusses and cladding.

What we don’t use, but still need, we store.

What we don’t need, we don’t dump, we share or give.

Along with a great ‘green’ home, we leave a footprint that treads lightly and takes as little as we can from our planet.

Starting the Goodness. Stopping the Waste.

An educating team. For good.
