    deTEEN ALERT:

    Whats Your BMI?

    Why Women NeedStrength Training

    Indiana Nazarene Clergy Association

  • Welcome to the inaugural edition of Healthy Living Magazine. Intended to be a small, how-to guide for exercising and eating properly Healthy Living Guide has morphed into a full-blown, full-size magazine which we hope will become something more than a free digest you pick up outside a grocery store or that you set on the coffee table as a decoration.

The goal of Healthy Living Guide is to change lives by presenting information to you in a way that you can not only understand but you can implement. Too many times youll read an article and come away with nothing. When you put down a copy of HLG we want you to be motivated to either change your life, seek new challenges, or help change the lives of those around you.

Living Guide. We are putting everything into the effort to change our lives, and hopefully yours. We are seeking out those people in the community who want to become leaders, and we are seeking leaders to be mentors.

Bob Ronckers Running Spot has again stepped forward to help lead the way in

youll continue to support him in his every endeavor.

This month brings us National Womens Health Week leading right into one of the most important days of our lives. Please dont forget to show your mom how much you love her on Mothers Day!

This magazine will also focus on the children of Cincinnati as they are our fu-ture. They face challenges ahead and it is our solemn duty to prepare them to meet the changes in this ever-evolving world. Lead by example and commend them when they lead.

We truly hope the articles bring you better health, more enthusiasm and drive, a greater zest for living, and a willingness to help others live better lives them-selves. We also hope you will feel free to contribute to the magazine for this truly is YOUR magazine. A healthy community starts with a single person. Be that person and seek out others who share your passion. Together we can change the world and live a more healthy, happy life.

    Sincerely,

    Frank W. Bowles Jr.President/CEO, Publisher

    May 2011Mothers Day

In August of 2000 my mother went to be with Jesus. I had the best mom. There was nothing thatmy mom would not do for her kids. I recall learning to water ski at age 10 and fearful of being in the water alone. While dad informed me he had little patience for whiners, Mom quietly put on a ski belt and jumped in the lake with me. I would get up on the skis, go a few yards, fall, and then my mom would swim up and help me put my skis on all the while teaching me what to do next. This went on several times before I nally made a big loop with out falling o my skis. Only a mom would do that sorry dad.

As you read King Lemuels account of his mom let it remind of the times your mom was there for you and celebrate her. If you are a mom, allow these words to challenge and encourage you as you seek to be the godly mother your children both want and need.

PR 31:10 A wife of noble character who can nd? is worth far more than rubies.

PR 31:11 Her husband has full condence in her lacks nothing of value.

PR 31:12 She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.

PR 31:13 She selects wool and ax and works with eager hands.

PR 31:14 She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar.

PR 31:15 She gets up while it is still dark; she provides food for her family portions for her servant girls.

PR 31:16 She considers a eld and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.

PR 31:17 She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.

PR 31:18 She sees that her trading is protable, and her lamp does not go out at night.

PR 31:19 In her hand she holds the dista and grasps the spindle with her ngers.

PR 31:20 She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.

PR 31:21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet.

PR 31:22 She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in ne linen and purple.

PR 31:23 Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.

PR 31:24 She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes.

PR 31:25 She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.

PR 31:26 She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.

PR 31:27 She watches over the aairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.

PR 31:28 Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:

PR 31:29 "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all."

PR 31:30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is eeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

PR 31:31 Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate. Proverbs 31:10-31

  • 72% of churches surveyedin Indiana stated their pastors arefacing serious economic challenges.

84% list educational debtas a contributing factor.

72% list money managementskills as a weakness.

50% have taken second jobs tocover basic living expenses.

84% list healthcare costs as asignicant issue inhibitingpersonal pastoral eectivenesswith:

60% stating healthcare visitsare postponed due to nancial concerns.

80% list consumer credit debtas a serious issue as well as stressover providing education fortheir children.

Pastoral effectiveness suers today for many reasons. Pastoral tenure, indebtedness, and pre-paredness are three major areas that impact pastoral eectiveness in ministry. Pastoral turnover averages 3 to 5 years. Pastors in the Church of the Nazarene remain below average in wage earning power, and struggle with high educational debt, and minimal nancial training to run non-prot organizations.

These issues are compounded by historically poor health habits and a lack of high quality health care options.

INCA seeks to meet these needs through partnerships with donors who want to make a signicant dierence in the lives of pastors, their congregations, and ultimately the ecient and eective expansion of Gods Kingdom.

Your gift will help provide pastors and spouses withpersonal health and nancial training, professionalleadership development, and matching fund grantsfor physical, educational and crisis needs.

Yes, I want to be a part of helping Nazarene pastors reach their full potential.
