GENERAL PRECAUTIONS FOR HANDLING AND STORINGHIGH PRESSURE GAS CYLINDERS
Edited from selected paragraphs of the Compressed Gas Association's "Handbook of Com-pressed Gases" published in 1981
Compressed Gas Association1235 Jefferson Davis HighwayArlington, Virginia 22202
Used by Permission
1. Never drop cylinders or permit them to strike each other violently.
2. Cylinders may be stored in the open, but in such cases, should be protected against extremes ofweather and, to prevent rusting, from the dampness of the ground. Cylinders should be stored in theshade when located in areas where extreme temperatures are prevalent.
3. The valve protection cap should be left on each cylinder until it has been secured against a wall orbench, or placed in a cylinder stand, and is ready to be used.
4. Avoid dragging, rolling, or sliding cylinders, even for a short distance; they should be moved by usinga suitable hand-truck.
5. Never tamper with safety devices in valves or cylinders.
6. Do not store full and empty cylinders together. Serious suckback can occur when an empty cylinderis attached to a pressurized system.
7. No part of cylinder should be subjected to a temperature higher than 125°F (52°C). A flame shouldnever be permitted to come in contact with any part of a compressed gas cylinder.
8. Do not place cylinders where they may become part of an electric circuit. When electric arc welding, precautions must be taken to prevent striking an arc against the cylinder.

SECTION 1DESCRIPTION AND SPECIFICATIONS
1-1 OVERVIEW
This manual describes the Heated Flame Ioni-zation Detector (HFID) Analyzer Module ofRosemount Analytical's NGA 2000 Series ofgas analysis components. See Figure 1-1 andFigure 1-2.
The HFID Analyzer Module is designed to con-tinuously determine the concentration of hydro-carbons in a flowing gaseous mixture at auser-selectable temperature setpoint between93°C and 204°C (200°F and 400°F). The con-centration is expressed in ppm or percent ofvolume.
The entire HFID Analyzer Module is designedas a stand-alone module, with gas connectionsmade from the rear. All electronics relative tosample detection and conditioning are includedin this module.
1-2 TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
The monitoring of atmospheric air for low-levelhydrocarbon contaminants and determining thehydrocarbon content of exhaust emissions frominternal combustion engines are examples oftypical applications for the HFID Analyzer Mod-ule.
1-3 SAFETY GAS FEATURES
The HFID Analyzer Module is designed with afactory-installed continuous dilution purge sys-tem in accordance with standard ANSI/NFPA496 - 1993, Chapter 6. Front-panel LEDs indi-cate that the burner flame is lit and that thepurge system is enabled. In addition, fuel gas isautomatically shut off when a flame-out condi-tion occurs or the safety system is disabled.
The purge system is enabled only if there isproper purge gas flow in, purge gas pressure, and internal case pressure, and after five timesthe case volume has been exchanged.
All tubing ahead of the burner is rigid metal-lic tubing assembled with ferrule/nut typecompression fittings. However, should aninternal fuel leak occur, a worst-case leakwould be dissipated below 25% of the LELof hydrogen through the combination of aninlet fuel flow restrictor and purge gas flow.
This module is designed to use 40%H2/60% He fuel at a maximum inlet pres-sure of 3446 hPa-gauge (50 psig).
A standard HFID Analyzer Module is onlyequipped to analyze a non-flammable sam-ple, below 100% of the LEL.
WARNING
POSSIBLE EXPLOSION HAZARDProtection against explosion dependsupon a special fuel flow restrictor in thefuel inlet fitting. Do not remove fuel inletrestrictor. Do not use 100% hydrogenfuel. Replace only with a factory sup-plied fitting.
1-4 THEORY OF TECHNOLOGY
This Analyzer Module uses the flame ioni-zation method of detection. The sensor is aburner in which a regulated flow of samplegas passes through a flame sustained byregulated flows of a fuel gas (a hydro-gen/diluent mixture) and air.
Within the flame, the hydrocarbon compo-nents of the sample stream undergo a com-plex ionization that produces electrons andpositive ions. Polarized electrodes collectthese ions, causing current to flow throughan electronic measuring circuit.
The ionization current is proportional to therate at which carbon atoms enter theburner, and is therefore a measure of the

concentration of hydrocarbons in the sample. This measure of concentration is placed on the
network, where it can be shown on a dataacquisition device.

SECTION 2INSTALLATION
2-1 UNPACKING
If the HFID Analyzer Module is received as aseparate unit, carefully examine the shippingcarton and contents for signs of damage. Im-mediately notify the shipping carrier if the cartonor contents is damaged. Retain the carton andpacking material until all components associ-ated with the Analyzer Module are operational.
2-2 ASSEMBLY
If the Analyzer Module requires assembly withother components, do so at this time.
Connect the network cable to either the NET-WORK 1 or NETWORK 2 connection on theAnalyzer Module. Connect the power cable tothe Analyzer Module front panel and an electri-cal +24VDC power supply.
2-3 LOCATION
Install the Analyzer Module in a clean,weather-proofed, non-hazardous, vibration-freelocation free from extreme temperature varia-tions. For best results, install the Analyzer Mod-ule near the sample stream to minimize sampletransport time.
WARNING
INSTALLATION RESTRICTIONSFor safety, the Analyzer Module should beinstalled in a non-confined, ventilated space.Do not block any of the rear panel outlets asthey are part of the safety system.
Operating ambient temperature is 15°C to35°C, limited to temperature changes of lessthan 10°C/hr. Acceptable dew point range isless than 95% relative humidity, but not in ex-cess of 45°C wet bulb temperature.
The cylinders of fuel, air, and calibrationgas(es) and the source of purge and regu-lated air should be located in an area ofrelatively constant ambient temperature.
2-4 GASES
a. Overview
During normal operation, the AnalyzerModule requires fuel and air to maintain theburner flame as well as suitable standardgases for calibration and instrument air forpurge requirements. In addition, instrumentair for regulated air in is required to controlthe sample pressure at the sample capillary.Criteria for selection of these gases follow inSection 2-4c.
After initial startup or after startup followinga prolonged shutdown, the analyzer maydisplay baseline drift for a considerable pe-riod of time, particularly on the most sensi-tive range. Commonly, the drift is caused bysmall amounts of hydrocarbons in the innerwalls of the tubing in both the internal flowsystem and the external gas supply system.Drift results from any factor influencing theequilibrium of these absorbed hydrocar-bons, such as temperature or pressure.
Note that this type of drift occurs only whenthe flame is burning. If drift occurs when theflame is extinguished, the electronic circuitryis at fault. To minimize drift, use clean fueland air, keep the analyzer clean, and locatethe gas cylinders in an area of relativelyconstant ambient temperature.
The cylinders supplying all gases eachshould be equipped with a clean, hydrocar-bon-free, two-stage regulator and a shutoffvalve.
All new external gas tubing (except forPURGE IN/OUT and SAMPLE BYPASS) isstrongly recommended, preferably pre-cleaned, stainless steel, gas chromato-

graph-grade tubing. Thoroughly clean beforeuse (if a hydrocarbon-based cleaning solventsuch as acetone is used, purge tubing with drynitrogen or helium for several minutes beforeusing.)
Gas line connections are compression fittings.Do not use pipe thread tape.
Since the oxidation of hydrogen is accompaniedby the formation of water vapor, the Exhausttubing always should be slanted downward atleast 6 degrees from horizontal. Otherwise, water may accumulate in the line, causing backpressure and noisy readings, or may back up in
the line and flood the burner. Depending onthe percent of water vapor in the sample, the sample bypass out connection mayhave condensation. Proper drainage maybe required.
If the sample is toxic or noxious, or is to bereclaimed, connect the Bypass outlet to asuitable disposal system. Do not use anydevice that may cause back pressure in theline.
Purge air and burner air should be suppliedfrom separate sources.

WARNING
HIGH TEMPERATURESThe Sample In, Sample Bypass Out, andBurner Exhaust Out gases and fittings canreach temperatures of up to 250°C. Makeconnections to these fittings when the ovenheater is disabled or the module is powereddown.
(See Figure 2-1) Connect inlet and outletlines for sample, burner fuel and air, ex-haust, bypass, regulated air, and purge toappropriately labeled fittings on the rearpanel. All connections are 1/4-inch fer-rule-type compression fittings except thePURGE AIR IN and OUT connections, which are 3/8-inch compression fittings. TheBurner Exhaust is a 3/8-inch connection.
It is recommended that no connection bemade to the PURGE AIR OUT port. If, how-ever, the analyzer's location requires inter-connection with a venting system, the 3/8"O.D. line should be kept as short as possi-ble, and no longer than four feet.
CAUTION
POSSIBLE INSTRUMENT DAMAGENo connection should be made to thePRESSURE RELIEF VALVE fitting. Doing somay cause damage to the instrument.
CAUTION
PURGE AIR REQUIREMENTSThe front panel LEDs of the Analyzer Mod-ule, as installed, are not visible, the usershould provide an indicator for the safetysystem as per ANSI/NFPA 496 standards.
c. Specifications
Fuel GasStandard analysis usually requiresmixed fuel, i.e., 40% ±2%) hydrogenand 60% helium. H2/He mixed fuel isrecommended over H2/N2 fuel becauseof better linearity in concentration out-put. Such blends are supplied by manygas vendors specifically for this use, with a guaranteed maximum total hy-drocarbon content of 0.5 ppm, meas-ured as methane. This specificationshould be used when obtaining thesemixtures.
NOTEThe fuel restrictor is marked with ared dot, and the sample capillary ismarked with a red or green dot formixed fuel applications.
Burner AirIn order to ensure a low backgroundsignal, burner air should contain lessthan 1 ppm maximum total hydrocarboncontent. An alternate source for burnerair and zero gas (see CALIBRATIONGASES below) is a combination dia-phragm pump and heated palladiumcatalyst. This process continuously re-moves moderate amounts of hydrocar-bons and carbon monoxide fromambient air.
Purge AirInstrument quality air or nitrogen is re-quired for the safety purge system.
Regulated AirInstrument quality air or nitrogen is re-quired. The air should contain less than2 ppm maximum total hydrocarboncontent.
Calibration GasesCalibration method and gases dependon the operating range, and the desiredmeasurement accuracy. In all methods, zero and span gases are used, and are

introduced through the sample inlet at therear of the module.
Zero Gas - Analysis is affected by thebackground gas of the sample. Therefore, itis recommended to use zero gas with asclose to the background composition of thesample as possible. Normally less than 0.5THC as CH4 is sufficient.
Span Gas - Span gas consists of a speci-fied concentration of methane or other hy-drocarbon in a background gas such asnitrogen. Analysis is affected by the back-ground gas of the sample. Therefore, spangas containing the same background gas asthe sample is recommended. Then, thebackground effect is canceled out.
Sample GasSample gas should be nonflammable (be-low 100% of the sample's LEL). For highsensitivity applications requiring backgroundgas compensation, contact the factory.
Flow RateRequired sample flow rate is 1.0 L/min. to2.5 L/min. for a supply pressure between 5and 9 psig. Flow rate for purge gas shouldbe 16 to 18 L/min. Flow rate for regulatedair should be 2 to 4 L/min.
Pressure/FiltrationSample Pressure at the SAMPLE inletshould be within the range of 345 to 620hPa-gauge (5 to 9 psig, 7.0 psig nominal),and internally, should be between 206.7and 275.6 hPa-gauge (3.0 and 4.0 psig).
Burner Fuel Pressure should be: 3101 to3450 hPa-gauge (45 to 50 psig) for cylinderregulator, 1723 hPa-gauge (25 psig) nomi-nal for internal pressure.
Burner Air Pressure should be : 1725to 3450 hPa-gauge (25 to 50 psig) forcylinder regulator, 1035 hPa-gauge (15psig) nominal for internal pressure.
Regulated Air Pressure should be 689to 1725 hPa-gauge (10 to 25 psig) forcylinder regulator.
Purge Air Pressure should be 689 to1380 hPa-gauge (10 to 20 psig).
Nominal Internal Case Pressure isabout 0.5 to 1.0 inch of water, and thepressure relief valve is set at 1/3 psig(nominal).
CAUTION
OVER PRESSURE DAMAGENoncompliance with these specifica-tions, particularly those concerningpurge air, could cause over-pressuredamage to the module.
NOTEThe sample gas and regulated airshould be filtered for particulatesdown to 2 microns to prevent theplugging of pneumatic components.
2-5 LEAK TEST
The analyzer module is completely leaktested at the factory. The user is responsi-ble for testing for leakage at the inlet andoutlet fittings on the rear panel. The user isalso responsible for internal leak testing pe-riodically and if any internal pneumaticcomponents are adjusted or replaced (witha test procedure chosen by the user).

Prior to initial startup, the user should leak testthe module as outlined in Section 2.
For the remainder of this section, AnalyzerModule interconnection with a control moduleor some interfacing component will be as-sumed operational.
3-2 STARTUP PROCEDURE
WARNING
PRESSURIZED ENCLOSUREThis enclosure shall not be opened unlessthe area is known to be free of flammablematerials or unless all devices within havebeen de-energized.
Area classification for the protected enclo-sure:
Non-Classified.
Pressurization: Type Z
Temperature Identification Number: T4A
Power shall not be restored after enclo-sure has been opened (or loss of purge)until enclosure has been purged for aminimum of 6 minutes at the minimumpressure of 689 hPa (10 psig). For safety, the Analyzer Module should be installed ina non-confined, ventilated space. Do notblock any of the rear panel outlets as theyare part of the safety system.
1. Connect supply gases and outlets to/frommodule.
2. Turn ON the purge gas only. Perform aleak check. Wait a minimum of 6 min-utes.
3. Connect the LON cable(s) and the+24VDC power cable.
4. Turn power ON.
5. Check the 4 LEDs. The power green LEDshould be illuminated. The Oven amberLED should be blinking or on. The otherLEDs should be OFF.
6. Allow the network to initialize.
7. If the user's system contains only oneAnalyzer Module, all system components, the Controller Board and the network"self-install" (bind together) during initialstartup. If the system contains more thanone Analyzer Module, the startup se-quence will interrogate the network to lo-cate and identify all components on thenetwork. The user will have to bind ap-propriate combinations of componentsafter the startup sequence. (See Section3-3.)
8. Check the general health of the analyzerby reviewing the status of the Self Tests. All “Pass” conditions should be obtained.
These test results can be found by se-lecting the following from the Main Menu:Technical Level Configuration, DiagnosticMenus, Analyzer Module Diagnostics,Self Test. All tested parameters shouldindicate "Pass."
Descriptions of the tests performed follow:
• EEPROM test - Checks the EEPROMon the Analysis Computer PCB.

• Power supply test - Verifies that allinternal DC voltages are within therequired tolerances.
• Network test - Checks the internalnetwork interface.
• 20 bit ADC test - Checks the 20-bitADC on the Analysis Computer PCBby sending a DC signal through thePreamp PCB and reading the signalback with the 20-bit ADC.
• 12 bit ADC test - Checks the 12-bitADC on the Analysis Computer PCBby sending a DC signal and readingthe signal back with the 12-bit ADC.
• Power Supply PCB test - Checksthe presence of the Power SupplyPCB by activating the 3-way air sole-noid.
• Safety PCB test - Checks the pres-ence of the Safety PCB by sending acommand and reading it back.
• Case temperature test - Comparesthe temperature read between thePreamp temperature sensor and thecase temperature sensor. They mustbe within 10°C of each other. This testsometimes fails if the case is opened. The sensor in the Preamp will takelonger to cool off since it is in an en-closure. Re-running the self-test afterthermal equilibrium will produce apositive result if the sensors areworking properly.
• Oven/Sample Temperature test -Compares the temperature read be-tween the sample temperature sensorand the oven temperature sensor. They must be within 50°C of eachother.
The self-test can be repeated at any timeby activating the TEST softkey in the SelfTest Results menu.
9. Set the desired oven setpoint in the rangeof 93°C to 204°C (200°F to 400°F).
10. Wait for the Purge Air green LED to illu-minate.
11. Introduce the remaining supply gases.Perform leak check. (See Section 1-5Specifications)
12. Set and verify the internal gas pressures.
InternalPressureRegulator
Typical OperatingPressures
Burner Air 965 to 1103 hPa-gauge(14 to 16 psig)
Fuel 1516 to 1723 hPa-gauge(22 to 25 psig)
Sample(non-adjustable)
206 to 290 hPa-gauge(3.0 to 4.0 psig)
Purge air of the following specificationsmust be present:
Flow: 16 to 18 L/min.
Supply Pressure: 689 to 1378 hPa-gauge (10 to 20 psig)
Noncompliance could cause damage tothe module. At the very least, the mod-ule's safety system, which requires acertain volume of purge air flowingthrough the case before allowing burnerignition, will not allow the instrument tooperate. The lowest purge airflow/pressure setting possible duringburner operation is preferable. Thus, theuser should set the external purge airpressure initially at 689 hPa-gauge (10psig). Check the Miscellaneous ControlParameters screen under Technical Di-agnostics, and note whether the PurgeGas (switch) variable is "ON." If it is"OFF," increase purge air supply by69 hPa-gauge (1 psig), and recheck thePurge Gas variable until it reads "ON."DO NOT EXCEED 1378 hPa-GAUGE (20PSIG). If the maximum setting is reached,

and the Purge Gas variable does not read"ON," contact factory. If the safety systemis initiated successfully (Purge Gas vari-able is "ON"), continue with the remainderof the startup procedure.
NOTEDo not restrict the PURGE OUT portand the pressure relief valve. Theymust be vented to atmospheric pres-sure.
13. Manual or Auto-ignite the flame. TheFlame-On green LED should be illumi-nated.
Two methods of burner ignition are possi-ble: auto-ignition and manual ignition.(Note: The burner is easier to ignite whenthe oven has reached the desired setpointtemperature.)
Auto-ignition provides fuel override andthree attempted ignitions (default setting),if necessary.
Before ignition and operation, Fuel Flowmust be set to ON in "Light Flame" displayscreen under Basic Controls and oventemperature must be at least 85°C.
The manual ignition switch on the Ana-lyzer Module front panel must be ma-nipulated in the following ways:
• Press up and hold for one minute. This opens burner fuel and air sole-noids.
• Press down to ignite burner glow plugfor up to 10 seconds.
• Repeat as necessary (if fuel and airsources are farther away than 10 feet, several more attempts may be neces-sary).
• If the flame has been lit, but the flametemperature increases slowly, per-form the following steps:
After igniting flame, releaseswitch for 2 seconds
Press switch down for2 seconds
Repeat release switch andpress down steps asnecessary.
14. Allow the case and oven to warm up, ap-proximately 1 to 2 hours.
15. Verify that all 4 LEDs are illuminated.
16. Note the four LEDs on the front panel ofthe Analyzer Module. They provide nec-essary information for either ignition pro-cedure. The LEDs, when illuminated, denote the following information:
• Green - unit powered on
• Amber - continuous illumination im-plies oven has reached operatingtemp. Within ±6°C of setpoint
• Green - Flame on
• Green - purge air system intact (it hasfilled five volumes of the module inte-rior)
17. Check and re-adjust the internal pres-sures if required.
The unit is ready for operation.
3-3 BINDING
To achieve full coordination between AnalyzerModules and associated I/O Modules, theuser must bind those components together inthe System Set Up portion of the TechnicalConfiguration Menu in software.

3-4 CALIBRATION
Calibration gas setup is as follows:
1. Set oven temperature setpoint.
2. Apply regulated air at a pressure between10 and 25 psig.
3. Allow case, oven, and sample tempera-tures to stabilize.
4. Supply heated zero gas to sample inlet.Adjust external flow controller or throttlevalve so that the sample inlet pressure isbetween 5 and 9 psig., 7 nominal.
5. Supply heated span gas to sample input.Repeat adjustment described in step 3.The reading of the sample pressure, oven, and sample temperatures should bethe same as that used during the adjust-ment of the zero gas.
See Section 2-4c for a description of themethod for choosing calibration zero and spangases.
To calibrate the Analyzer Module, introducezero gas into the SAMPLE INLET, and do thefollowing:
1. If more than one Analyzer Module is func-tional and the split Run Mode display isshown, press the DISPLAY softkey untilthe desired Analyzer's Run Mode displayis acquired.
2. Press the MENUS softkey to enter theMain Menu.
3. Verify the fuel type in the MiscellaneousControl Parameters menu (under theTechnical Configuration menu structure, select the following from the Main Menu:Diagnostic menus, Analyzer Module Di-agnostics and then Miscellaneous ControlParameters).
4. Verify the capillary type in the AnalyzerManufacturing Data menu (under theTechnical Configuration menu structure, select the following from the Main Menu:
Technical Level Configuration, ServiceMenus, Manufacturing Data, AnalyzerModule Data).
5. In the Calibration Gas List menu (from theMain Menu, select Expert Controls andSetup, Analyzer Module Setup, then Cali-bration Gas List), enter necessary data, including the Operational Sample Pres-sure and the Calibration Gas HC Re-sponse Factor. Common HC factors are:methane (CH4), 1.0, ethane (C2H6), 1.90,propane (C3H8), 3.00. These factors arenot used to compensate the reading, butare used to select the proper preampsense resistor.
6. Press HOME to re-enter the Main Menu, enter the Basic Controls menu, select de-sired range, introduce zero gas and allowits response to stabilize, press the ZEROsoftkey to enter the Analyzer Zero menu, press ZERO again and wait.
7. Press the SPAN softkey to enter theAnalyzer Span menu, introduce span gasand allow its response to stabilize, pressSPAN again and wait.
8. Repeat steps 6 and 7.
9. Press the HOME softkey to re-enter theMain Menu.
10. Press DISPLAY softkey for the Run Modedisplay.
If the user is unable to calibrate the AnalyzerModule (i.e., when ZERO or SPAN is initiated, nothing happens), several possible solutionspresent themselves. One solution relates tothe use of an incorrect gas for zeroing orspanning (e.g., using a high concentration gasto zero or a zero gas to span the AnalyzerModule). Simply recalibrating with the appro-priate gas(es) will not correct the problem be-cause the ZERO OFFSET or SPAN FACTORhas been set to an extreme value in the proc-ess.
To remedy the problem, do the following:
Instruction Manual748414-B
February 2002
Rosemount Analytical Inc. A Division of Emerson Process Management Operation 3-5
Model NGA 2000 HFID
1. Verify that correct zero and span calibra-tion gases are being used properly. If so,attempt to recalibrate according to in-structions at the beginning of Section 3-4,ensuring that the oven, sample and casetemperatures and displayed measure-ment reading are stable before initiatingthe calibration routine. If incorrect gaseswere used in the initial, failed calibration, skip to Step 2.
2. Make the following selections from theMain Menu: Expert Controls and Setup,Analyzer Module Setup, then CalibrationParameters. Disable Calibration Adjust-ment Limits.
3. Recalibrate the analyzer module accord-ing to instructions at the beginning of sec-tion 3.4, ensuring that oven, sample, andcase temperatures and displayed meas-urement reading are stable before initiat-ing the calibration routine.
4. Enable Calibration Adjustment Limits inthe Calibration Parameters menu.
NOTEIf the range selections straddle 725 ppm,CH4, the zero and span calibration for eachrange must be done separately.
3-5 ROUTINE OPERATION
After case, oven, and sample temperaturestabilization, calibration, and binding, proceedas follows:
Supply heated sample gas to SAMPLE IN-LET. Adjust external flow controller or throttlevalve so that the sample inlet pressure is be-tween 5 and 9 psig, 7 psig nominal. Thereading on the SAMPLE pressure gauge andsample and oven temperatures should be thesame as that used during adjustment of thezero and span calibration gas control.
Adjust the Range Number setting. The Ana-lyzer Module will now automatically and con-tinuously output the measured hydrocarboncontent of the sample. Output is in terms ofthe particular hydrocarbon present in the spangas. Note that readings obtained during op-
eration depend on the concentration of totalhydrocarbons in the sample.
If maximum sensitivity is required from theHFID Analyzer Module, use an optimum com-bination of settings on the FUEL, and AIRpressure regulators. Settings must be deter-mined experimentally, but the curves in Fig-ures 3-1 and 3-2 may be used as guides.
The Analyzer Module will not allow the user toincrease the upper limit of a range beyond the"maximum range" software setting. To changethe "maximum range" value, select the fol-lowing from the Main Menu: Technical Con-figuration Menu, Service Menus,Manufacturing Data, and Analyzer ModuleData. Select Maximum Range, and use thearrow keys to scroll the indicated value. Thesame applies for Minimum Range settings.
During shutdown, always turn off fuel gas first, then the air and sample gases. The flame canalso be turned off by setting Ignition SystemEnable to "Off" in the Light Flame menu (un-der Basic Controls). Subsequently, rememberto set Ignition System Enable to "On" beforeattempting to ignite the flame.
After initial startup, or startup following a pro-longed shutdown, the Analyzer Module re-quires about one day's continuous operationto stabilize. For several days afterwards, cali-brate daily. The frequency of subsequent cali-brations can be reduced as experiencedictates, consistent with the accuracy re-quirements of the particular application.
3-6 SAFETY SYSTEM
The HFID Analyzer Module safety system willnot allow ignition or continuous burner func-tion unless the following conditions are pres-ent:
• The internal purge gas pressure is at least380 hPa - gauge (5.5 psig). (Monitor dis-play message, Purge Gas Pressure inPhysical Measurements menu, for propersetting.)
• Flow rate for purge air in is at least16 L/min. and case pressure is greater

than 0.5 inches of water. (Monitor displaymessage, Purge Gas (ON) in Miscellane-ous Control Parameters menu for correctstate. Proper sealing hardware must beused in order to obtain the required purgeair in flow rate and case pressure).
• Five case volumes of purge air have beenachieved and the three above conditionsare present. The time duration to achievea safe system is a minimum of 6 min. Theelapsed time can be monitored in theTechnical Startup Analyzer menu. (Moni-tor the Purge Air Green LED (ON), Purge
Control Status (ON), or Purge Air Alarmfor indication of the state of the safetysystem.)
As stated above, proper sealing hardware iscrucial to the successful operation of thesafety system. Therefore, a specific torquesequence (shown in Figure 3-3) must be fol-lowed when the front panel of the module isbeing reinstalled after removal. All front andrear panel screws must be installed.
NOTEDo not over-torque rear panel screws.
