Hebrews 11:24-26 (TNI)

By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh's daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. 26 He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.

TODAY’S STORY IS ABOUT A FAMILY THAT CHANGED THE COURSE OF HISTORY BY FACING AND DEALING WITH THE FEAR FACTORMoses was born with ‘purpose’ written all over him. Even his parents saw God’s hand on his life. To deliver the Hebrews from horrendous slavery fear had to be faced and overcome time after time. Read about it in the Book of Exodus. In our text we get a glimpse of the high points of the saga.

I WILL FEAR NO EVIL!!

V 23 By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.

Page 8: Hebrews11 fear-no-evil

AM I READY TO SAY THIS LOUD AND CLEAR:

“I will fear no evil!”

Page 9: Hebrews11 fear-no-evil

● “Do not be afraid” 70 times in the Bible

● One of the most familiar quotes is from the 23rd Psalm:

“Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I WILL FEAR NO EVIL for thou art with me.”

● Faith is my confidence that God is bigger than any enemy, struggle, temptation or consequence that life can send my way.

● Faith looks at life’s contradictions and says, “That’s God’s problem!”

Page 10: Hebrews11 fear-no-evil

● Crossing the Jordan River at flood season.

● Sacrificing my son on an altar when I’ve been promised that God will create a nation through the boy

● Loving my enemies… even rude, naughty or noisy neighbors

● Overcoming a life of mistakes and side trails

AM I PREPARED TO COMMIT TO THE BETTER WAY?

● Faith makes a choice. In Choosing the better way we also Refuse the easy, downhill cruise.

● JB Phillips Version of Romans 12:1 “Do not let the world squeeze you into its mould!”

● What do I fear? What has the power to paralyze me, neutralize my witness or make me ‘sit down’ or shut up?

Page 13: Hebrews11 fear-no-evil

AM I PREPARED TO COMMIT TO THE BETTER WAY?

● My poor track record…failures or fits and starts?

● Situations in which I’ve often found defeat in the past?

● Relationships in which I tend to bend my values?

● Being rejected by those I love?

Page 14: Hebrews11 fear-no-evil

MY GOAL: TO BE ALL GOD CREATED ME TO BE

V26 (Moses) regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.

Page 20: Hebrews11 fear-no-evil

AM I PREPARED TO COMMIT TO THE BETTER WAY?

Moses: “Christ as of greater value… He was looking ahead to his reward”. You: “For me to live is Christ” Philippians 1:21

● I’m not asked to head to Egypt and lead people out of slavery.

● My goal isn’t that of building a big boat in the desert.

● God hasn’t asked me to take my child to a hillside and do the unthinkable.

Page 21: Hebrews11 fear-no-evil

What has God called me to do that only I can do?

Live more like Jesus. Share God’s love in genuine service, kindness and compassion.

Use my mouth and body to tell the story of God’s personality and purpose.

Practice “After You” living. “Oh, no…After you!”

● There are plenty of forces, people and excuses for settling for less than God has designed me for…But I choose to Be All That God Created Me To Be.

Page 22: Hebrews11 fear-no-evil

I AM PART OF A POWERFUL WORLD-CHANGING GROUP

V29 By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so , they were drowned.

Page 23: Hebrews11 fear-no-evil

What has God called me to do that only I can do?

Israel: The whole bunch of them…as a group…did the impossible …crossed through the Red Sea

Us: “All the brothers and sisters here join me.” Galatians 1:2 etc, etc…

● MY JOY is that I belong to a great group of faith-filled brothers and sisters!

No Lone Rangers! No Pecking Order! Nobody is a Nobody in God’s Forever Family!

“One another passages abound” Love one another, confess you sins…forgive…be kind…serve…one another

All of it is done together…with each other and for one another.

We blend our energy, money, wisdom, passion and love for God and each other…to do together what we could never do alone.
