Dear Friends,

Dear Friends,

“I love summer.”

My wife says this almost every evening between July and late

September when our table is laid with fresh vegetables and summer

fruits that she has just picked from her garden or bought at the

farmers’ market.

“I love your cooking,” I say, regardless of the season.

We both love not just to eat, but to eat well. And we do

recognize that the bounty that fills our plates – be it animal or

vegetable – was once a living creature whose life now sustains our

lives. And we do express our gratitude for that which we cannot live

without, but which we cannot create for ourselves.

I offer, then, the following table prayer to you. Use it if you

like. Share it with others if it seems appropriate to do so.

Remember, too, the true measure of gratitude lies not in the words

we say, but in the generosity it inspires. So, may your own

recognitions of God’s grace lead you to new expressions of

generosity toward others.

JPC Wellness/ August 2015 Carol Jernigan, Faith Community Nurse

Working on a Building I walked through my first home inspection yesterday. I thought it would last an hour or two, the inspector told me it would be about 3 hours, but after 6 hours he said that he could go on but he was ready for supper time. I learned a lot about roofing, plumbing, electricity that I never knew before. That night as I tried to fall asleep, I was overwhelmed with the amount of information that had been revealed about my house and that he had more he could tell me! I barely slept that night. We are working on a building too as we build a Wellness Ministry here at JPC. There are many aspects of a Health Ministry that we can consider and many ways to implement them. As the Home Inspector said many times, “there are options.” It is an exciting time to be at the foundational level, to spend time with you in your home and the hospital. Thank you to Pastor Allen who has graciously invited me along on his visits. I will be visiting more folks soon. If you would like a visit from me just give the church office a call and leave a message with Monica. For the month of August- First meeting of the Wellness committee, a sub-committee of CL&M, if you are interested in being involved please let me know. No set dates yet, I will let you know shortly. Gentle Yoga meets on Tuesday mornings at 11 am. This is a gentle stretch class where many of the poses can be done while sitting in a chair. Yoga Workout meets on Thursday mornings at 10 am. This is a new class for a more strenuous workout for individuals who don’t mind getting up and down off the floor. Mats and props are provided for both classes. Blood Pressure Screenings- I will be downstairs on the fourth Sunday of the month, August 23rd, before and after Sunday school.

Tuesday, August 11th at 6 pm- We have been invited to participate in a town hall educational forum to learn about Governor Haslam's INSURE TENNESSEE. This will be held at the Jonesborough Visitors Center. I will be attending along with Pastor Allen. If you would like to join us and learn more about this opportunity for folks in need of insurance coverage please let me or Allen know. It would be nice to have a group attend

together.

10 Cents-A-Meal Every Family Lunch Sunday, Jonesborough Presbyterian Church receives the 10 Cents-a-

Meal Offering. This money is sent to Holston Presbytery. Churches in our presbytery may then apply for grants to support local, regional or global efforts that address immediate hunger issues. In the past, JPC has applied for and received

grants to support the work of the JAMA Food Bank.

On Family Lunch Sundays, there is a basket on the credenza to your right as you make your way to the buffet table in the fellowship hall for donations to help with the 10 Cents-a-Meal.

The Shawl Ministry includes persons of all faiths. Items are made with prayers, blessings or wishes in mind for the recipients. “Part of the journey of prayer and faith is to recognize that we

may never know how our love and care will touch or change another person’s life. Instead, we are invited to offer others our compassion and let whatever needs to happen, happen.”

JAMA’ Food Pantry is in great need of: Soups, Peanut Butter, Flour, Sugar, Cornmeal, Jams and Jellies, Pork and Beans, Instant Potatoes,

Cereals, Spaghetti & Sauces, Sugar, Dried Beans, Canned Fruit, Meats, Vegetables & Large Paper Bags. PLEASE HELP! Anyone wishing to help at the JAMA Food Pantry

on a 4th or a 5th Thursday of the month: Please see Jim Cash for details.

Monday, August 10th 6:00-8:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall, we meet the second Monday of each month. It is a social group that gets together once a month to knit, crochet, or spin. It's a fun way to meet others in the community that shares this interest. If anyone has questions, please ask Emily Webb or Deb Burger. Everyone is welcome!
