WHAT WE LEARNED

• You will need to know your material inside-out• You need to be comfortable within Collaborate – this

only comes with experience•Managing the group – gauging their understanding

and interest plus answering questions and permitting/encouraging interaction.

• We booked an IT room with no phone.

• We didn’t ‘flip’ the classroom.

• Used web share instead of application share – typing in boxes couldn’t be seen.

• Forgot to switch off microphone so the video we were all watching echoed.

• Student participating via mobile phone – mic picked up dog barking.

• Chat set to ‘private’ so all went to one moderator’s chat box.

• Moderator unable to hear despite successfully running audio wizard – volume slider was down.

• Tutor was automatically a moderator but was not aware of this – switched off the recording halfway through the session (and later deleted the recording) plus took over application sharing…

• Confusion over who should answer the question and whether verbal or typed.
