Diversity Statement

The University of North Texas values diversity and individuality as part of advancing ideals of human worth, dignity and academic excellence. Diverse viewpoints enrich open

discussion, foster the examination of values and exposure of biases, help educate people in rational conflict

resolution, responsive leadership and prepare us for the complexities of a

pluralistic society. As such, the University of North Texas is committed

to maintaining an open, welcoming atmosphere that attracts qualified students, staff, and faculty from all

groups to support their success. Policy 10.15

Diversity and Non-Discrimination

The University of North Texas does not discriminate on the

basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion, sex, sexual

orientation, gender identity or expression, age, political

affiliation, disability, marital status, ancestry, genetic

information, citizenship, or veteran status in its application

and admission process, educational programs and

activities, employment policies and use of university facilities.

favors • Verbal or physical

conduct of a sexual nature

is made explicitly or implicitly as a term or condition of an individual's employment or education.

HOSTILE WORK ENVIRONMENT

Policy 1.3.19 – Sexual Harassment

When the unwelcome

behavior interferes with an individual's

academic or professional

performance or creates an

intimidating, hostile or offensive

employment, or educational

environment.

TITLE IX“No person in the

United States shall, on the basis of sex, be

excluded from participation in, be

denied the benefits of, or be subject to

discrimination under any educational

program or activity receiving Federal

financial assistance.”

-Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 to the 1964 Civil Rights Act

2012 - 40th anniversary of Title IX

Known for creating access and equality for women and girls in athletics as well as other facilities and programs

Recently the scope of this legislation has been expanded to include campus sexual misconduct.

NO retaliation against an individual for:

• Good faith filing a claim of discrimination

• Instituting any proceeding under or related to state or federal anti-discrimination laws

• Testifying in a discrimination investigation or proceeding

• Opposing discriminatory actions or practice will not be tolerated.
