whatever we have really belongs to God! • Because we know everything belongs to God, WE

SHOULD TAKE CARE OF GOD’S STUFF. And one of the best ways to take care of God’s stuff is by using it the way God would want it to be used.

• Now I want everyone to look at your neighbor and give them a fist bump and say, “It’s gonna be a fun day!” (Wait for response)

• Let’s get started right away with a game unlike anything you have ever seen! I need some willing small group leaders and your ENTIRE Small Group!

Small group leaders ONLY come up to the stage. Okay, Leaders, I have a sombrero (or hat) and sunglasses for each of you to wear.

Small group leaders each put on a sombrero/hat and sunglasses.

Looking good! So, small groups! I have a big bowl of candy for each group. Now, don’t go eating all this! You need it for the game. Small Groups, you’ll stand behind this line. And when I say, “Go,” one by one you’ll take the candy, one piece at a time – NO HANDFULS – and throw it at your leader. Now, you’re not just trying to hit your leader in the face! Your goal is to land the candy on the sombrero/hat. A couple of times throughout the game, I’ll pause the game and yell, “Collect”; at that point you may carefully, without bumping your leader…

…run over and collect any candy that didn’t land in the sombrero, put it in your bowl, and run back to your line. At the end of 2 minutes, or when everyone has had a turn, we will see who landed the most candy in the sombrero. Got it? Let’s play!

Host lines the small groups up, then yells, “Go.” At several points in the game, yell, “Collect,” and let the groups collect fallen candy.

After the allotted time runs out, count the pieces on the sombreros, putting them back in the bowl, and award prizes to the winning small group members. ELEM UseIt WK 1 (3)

How can YOU best use your time? (Allow Responses) • In Psalm 90:12 says “Teach us to number our

days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” • I’ve got two pictures that I think will help us

unpack this verse a bit. Here’s the first:

Anybody know what this is? (Wait for responses) • Yep, it’s a bug. But it’s not just any bug. This is a

mayfly. Any idea why I might have a picture of a mayfly?

• Well, you may or may not already know this, but mayflies happen to have the shortest lifespan on earth. Any guesses how long they live? (Wait for responses)

• On average the mayfly lives 24 hours. Some female adults only live 5 minutes! That’s it! They’ve been nicknamed the “one-day insects” because that’s all they get. One day! Could you imagine . . . you get to the end of the day and think, “I wish I had done more with my life?”

• “Now, check this one out:

• Anyone know what animal this is? This is a bowhead whale. I’m guessing you can figure out why I’m showing you this picture. This animal has the longest lifespan on earth. Any guesses? (Wait for responses)

• The oldest bowhead whale we know about lived for over 200 years – equal to the lifespan of about 77,015 mayflies! Crazy, right?!

• Now check out this last image!

• And then there’s us! Think about humans, people like you and me. Our life on this earth is somewhere in between those other creatures. We’ve lived much longer than a mayfly, but it’s pretty safe to say we won’t be catching up with the bowhead whale.

• All of this brings us to our Bottom Line for today!
