iOS 9 on the iPad lets you refer to a second application while another isrunning. Only certain applications are compatible with this feature, which iscalled SlideOver. In addition, only the following iPadmodels are compatiblewithSlideOver:

3.ChargingtheDevice

Toensurethatthedeviceworkswell,pleasefollowtheseguidelines:Note: You cannot use a cable that came with an iPhone 4S or earlier to

chargeaniPhone5orlater.Similarly,youcannotuseacablethatcamewithaniPad 3 (New iPad, released inMarch 2012) to charge an iPad 4 (iPad withRetinaDisplay,releasedinNovember2012).

Discharge the device completely at least once a month for optimalperformance. When charging the battery, the meter in the upper right-handcornerofthescreen(whenunlocked)mayshowthatitisfullycharged;however,the charge is not complete until 100%Charged appears on the lock screen.Insert the Lightning cable into the Lightning Connector on the bottom of the

phone. The lightning cable looks like this: . When the cable is insertedcorrectly,theindicatorsoundisplayedorthedevicevibrates.RefertoTipsandTrickstolearnaboutconservingbatterylife.

4.TurningtheDeviceOnandOff

UsetheSleep/Wakebuttonto turn thedeviceonoroff.Toturn thedeviceon,pressandholdtheSleep/Wakebuttonfortwoseconds.Thedeviceturnson

andthe logoisdisplayed.Afterthedevicehasfinishedstartingup,theLockscreenisdisplayed.

Note: If the device does not turn on after a few seconds, try charging thebattery.

Toturnthedeviceoff,pressandholdtheSleep/Wakebuttonuntilthescreen

becomesdark.Themessage"Slidetopoweroff"appears.Touchthe sliderandmoveyourfingertotheright.Thedeviceturnsoff.

5.InstallingaSIMCard(iPhoneandiPad4Gmodelsonly)

Insert theSIMcard fromanoldphone to retainyourpersonal informationandphonenumber. iPhone5 and latermodels only takenanoSIMcards.ThetypeofSIMcardalsodependsonyourcarrier.Forinstance,youcannotinsertaVerizonSIMcardintoanAT&Tdevice,andvice-versa.ToinstallaSIMcard:1.InserttheendofapapercliporaSIMejecttoolintotheholeontherightsideofthedeviceifitisaniPhone,orontheleftsideifitisaniPad.TheSIMcardtraypopsout,asshowninFigure5.2.TakeouttheoldSIMcard,ifnecessary,andinsertthenewSIMcardwiththeshortsidefacingupwards,asshowninFigure6.3.Re-insertthetrayintothedevice.ThenewSIMcardisinstalled.Note:AniPhone4Sisusedasanexampleintheimagesbelow.TheSIMcardtrayonsomeiOS9devicesislocatedontheleftsideofthedevice.

6.SettingUptheDevicefortheFirstTime

You must set up the iOS9 device when you turn it on for the first time,unlessanAppleassociateoranotherspecialisthasalreadydonesoforyou.Toset up the device: 1. Turn on the device by pressing and holding thePower

buttonuntilthe iconappears.ThedevicestartsupandtheWelcomescreenappears,asshowninFigure7.2.Touchthescreenanywhereandmoveyourfingertotherighttobeginsettingupyourdevice.TheLanguagescreenappears,asshowninFigure8.3.Touchalanguageinthelist.Thelanguageisselected,andtheCountryscreenappears,asshowninFigure9.4.Touchthecountrywhereyoureside.Thecountryisselected,andtheWi-FiNetworksscreenappears.5.TouchaWi-Finetwork.ThePasswordpromptappears.6.Enterthenetworkpassword,whichisusuallyfoundonyourwirelessrouter.TouchJoinintheupperright-handcornerofthescreen.ThedeviceconnectstotheselectedWi-FinetworkandtheLocationServicesscreenappears,asshowninFigure10.IfyoudidnotactivateyouriPhoneinthestore,youmayneedtoconfirmyourphonenumberbeforetheLocationServicesscreenappears.Enteryourbillingzipcodeand the last fourdigitsofyour social securitynumber toconfirm(iPhone6andiPhone6Plusonly).7.TouchEnableLocationServices ifyouwanttoturnthefeatureon.TouchDisable Location Services to leave the feature turned off. Some applicationswill not work with Location Services turned off. The Set Up device screenappears,asshowninFigure11.8 . TouchRestore from iCloudBackup orRestore from iTunesBackup ifyouhaveadatabackup.Youwillneedtoconnectthedevicetoyourcomputerand run iTunes if you touch 'Restore from iTunes Backup'. TouchSetUp asNew device if you do not have an iCloud or iTunes backup. The Apple IDscreenappears.9.TouchSignInwithyourAppleIDifyouhaveanAppleIDortouchCreateaFreeAppleID.TheTermsandConditionsscreenappearsonceyouaresignedin.10.TouchAgreeinthebottomright-handcornerofthescreen.Aconfirmationdialogappears.11.TouchAgreeagain.TheiCloudscreenappears.12.TouchUseiCloudtousethefeatureortouchDon'tUseiCloudtodisableit.TheFindMydevice feature (iPhoneor iPad) is turnedon automaticallywhenyouuseiCloud.TheiMessageandFaceTimescreenappears.13.Touchaphonenumberor email address ifyouwould like to enable it foriMessageorFaceTime.Abluecheckmarkappearsnexttoeachselectedaddressornumber.14. Touch Next in the upper right-hand corner of the screen when you are

finished. The iCloud drive screen appears. iCloud Drive syncs all of yourdocumentsandimagesiniCloud,andupdatesthemonallofyourdevicesasyouwork.15. Touch Upgrade to iCloud Drive. iCloud Drive is turned on, and thePasscodeCreationscreenappears,asshowninFigure12.16.Enter a passcode to set up a security lock for your phone, or touchDon'tAdd Passcode to do it later. TheDisplay Zoom screen appears, as shown inFigure13(iPhone6and6Plusandlater).17.TouchtheiPhoneonthelefttoviewthemostamountofinformationonyourscreen.However,thefontswillbeslightlyhardertoread.TouchtheiPhoneontherighttouseyouriPhoneinzoomedview.Fontswillbeeasiertoread,butthescreenwillnotfitasmuchinformation.TheDiagnosticsscreenappears.18.TouchAutomaticallySendtohavethedevicesendusagedatatoAppleortouch Don't Send to disable this feature. 7.NavigatingtheScreens

There aremanyways to navigate iOS9 devices.Use the following tips toquicklynavigatethescreensofthedevice:

- Use theHome button to return to the Home screen at any time. Anyapplicationortoolthatyouwereusingwillbeinthesamestatewhenyoureturntoit.-AttheHomescreen,slideyourfingertothelefttoaccessadditionalpages.Ifnothinghappens,theotherpagesareblank.-TouchthecenteroftheHomescreenandslideyourfingerdowntoaccessthedevice's search feature. You may search any data stored on your phone,includingapplicationdata,aswellastheweb,iTunes,ApplicationStore,movieshowtimes,locationsnearby,andmuchmore.RefertoSearchingtheDevicefor

8.OrganizingIcons

You may wish to re-order the location of the application icons on thescreens.Toorganizeapplicationicons:1.Touchaniconandholdituntilalloftheiconsbegintoshake.Theiconscannowbemovedaroundthescreen.2.Movetheicontothedesiredlocationandletgoofthescreen.Theiconisrelocatedandthesurroundingiconsarere-orderedaccordingly.Ifaniconthatusedtobeonthescreenisgone,thenithasbeenmovedtoadifferentHomescreenintheprocess.3.Tomoveanicontoanotherscreen,movetheicontotheedgeofthecurrentoneandholditthere.Theadjacentscreenappears.Droptheiconinthedesiredlocation.4.PresstheHomebutton.Theiconsstopshaking.

9.CreatinganIconFolder

WhentherearemanyiconsontheHomescreens,youmaywishtoorganizetheiconsintofolders.Eachfoldercanhaveameaningfulnametoenableyoutofindtheiconseasily.Tocreateafolder:1.Touchaniconandholdituntilalloftheiconsbegintoshake.Theiconscannowbemoved.2.Moveoneiconontopofanotherandletgoofthescreen.Afolderwiththeselectediconsiscreated,asshowninFigure14.Touchthe buttontoenteranameforthefolder.3.Enteranameforthefolder,andtouchDone.Thenewnameissaved.4.Toexitthefolder,touchanywhereoutsideofit.Thefoldercloses.5.PresstheHomebutton.Theiconsstopshaking.

10.UsingWi-Fi

UseanearbyWi-Fihotspotorahomeroutertoavoidhavingtousedata.Wi-Fi is required todownload largeapplications.To turnonWi-Fi:1.Touch the

icon.TheSettingsscreenappears,asshowninFigure15.2.TouchWi-Fi.TheWi-FiNetworksscreenappears,asshowninFigure16.3.Touchthe switchnextto'Wi-Fi'.Wi-Fiturnsonandalistofavailablenetworksappears,asshowninFigure17.Ifthenetworkhasan iconnexttoit,apasswordisneededtoconnecttoit.4.Touchthenetworktowhichyouwouldliketoconnect.TheWi-FiPasswordpromptappearsifthenetworkisprotected,asshowninFigure18.5. Enter the network password. Touch Join. Provided that you entered thecorrectpassword,acheckmarkappearsnext to thenetworknameand theiconappearsatthetopofthescreen.YouareconnectedtotheWi-Finetwork.

3.CallingaFavorite

There is noSpeedDial feature on iPhoneswith iOS9. Instead, frequentlydialednumberscanbesavedasFavorites,whichcanbeaccessedmorequicklythanothercontacts.TocallanumberstoredinFavorites:

The device will make suggestions for words that are spelled incorrectly.Touch a suggestion to substitute the word immediately. If auto-correction isenabled, the device will automatically replace common typos.
