Thanks to our most generous friends this year 1,000 kids across Toronto are now thriving through music.

RPSM students are unique, and our goal is two-fold: to give them a quality music education and to help them succeed. Inspiring them, engaging them and giving them a sense of accomplishment, belonging and choice is uppermost in the minds of our 80 music faculty working across Toronto. Unlike any other music school in the city, our students can choose from a dizzying array of private, ensemble, and small and large group music lessons and are offered once-in-a-lifetime performance opportunities, to help them develop all the right skills and traits to shine in everything they do.

Something magical is happening here at RPSM - on stage the kids are learning to sing, play and perform, while backstage we are building their character, confidence and self-esteem. Year after year we watch our students grow, flourish, graduate high school and go on to college and university all with our secret weapon: MUSIC.

We are so grateful to you for investing in these remarkable children and for making Toronto a better place. Thank you.

RICHARD MARSELLA Executive Director Regent Park School of Music

MARTIN ABEL Chair, Board of Directors Regent Park School of Music

in REGENT PARK JANE & FINCH

PARKDALE and other high priority

neighbourhoods

Piano Violin CREATIVITY Classical Guitar TRUMPET Flute CELLO HARP Saxophone VOICE PURPOSE CHOIR Steel Pan

BUCKET DRUMMING iPad Percussion TEAMWORK Recorder RESILIENCE Hand Chimes MELODICA Electric Guitar Turntable

Nonsense Orchestra Clarinet LEADERSHIP Song Writing Ukulele CURIOSITY Early Childhood Music

Fiddle THEORY PERSEVERANCE LIFE SKILLS Music Ear Training Composition

TABLA HISTORY Harmony GRIT Found Sound

OUR STUDENTS ARE LEARNING

Osborn, e arly childhood music

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR

500 STUDENTS

in Regent Park learned everything from classical music to sound engineering,

performing in over 70 events and sailing through over 80

Royal Conservatory of Music exams

200 STUDENTS

in Jane & Finch took part in a year-long musical adventure, complete with summer camps

thanks to the incredible Carswell Family

1,000 STUDENTSfound joy in over 40,000 hours

of music education

Josh, choir & piano Jess, recorder/melodica Aleen sa xophone & piano

52 STUDENTS

explored music in our pilot projects for children with

special needs and youth in refugee shelters and youth

justice programs

141 STUDENTS

at First Nations School of Toronto (every child in the

school) continued to take weekly music lessons with

RPSM faculty

107 STUDENTS

in Parkdale took music, right alongside Nai, the

Syrian Childrens Refugee Choir under RPSMs

musical direction

12 STUDENTS

graduated . . . all bound for college

& universit y

Eugenie violin

OUR INCREDIBLE 2017 RPSM GRADUATES

12 STUDENTS

are graduating from RPSM this year and

all of them are university & college bound.

Here are 8 of them.
