With the influx of Jimmys over these past few days since LoM, we’ve all been annoyed at how the games have been shorter and less fun since there’s SO MANY players who doesn’t know to left click for drinking their juice, doesn’t know what a proc is, doesn’t know anything. However, I’ve seen many a match of dvz devolve into veterans shouting at them, calling them a noob and such, blaming LoM, rob, and all that jazz.

That doesn’t help. In any way.

This document is a way, for me at least, to quickly answer all their queries via Ctrl + c and Ctrl + v. I hope in doing so, the Jimmys can learn quicker, and the games can reach 2k every once and a while, instead of, like, never.

I also hope that every veteran, title or not, help in teaching the new players, since without the training server and the playmindcrack tutorial on dvz being outdated, newcomers have a hard time actually learning the game and having fun. Hopefully, our friendly community can bond together and solve this problem.

If my English is a bit rusty, I apologize. And also, please tell me if this is a good idea or not, and if you have any more suggestions, feel free to add to this.

Here we go!

When there aren’t any other veterans you see / What is this game? / How do you play this? / I’m new, can someone explain?

To newcomers: welcome to dvz!

You have one minecraft day to get your weapons, craft armor, gather resources to build a keep.

The onslaught of monsters will be released by nightfall.

Explore the map if you’re new, read the tooltips, drink your juice, don’t block off, and have fun!

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

Page 2: Helping the Jimmys

Where are the weapons?

Nolrim: They are on the top of the keep. Enter the keep, find and go up the two staircases, and you’ll see them in the final shrine room.

Frosthold: They are at the second shrine room. Enter the keep, go down the stairs, and you’ll see them.

Valley: Enter the keep, go straight through the long hallway, up the stairs, and you’ll see them.

Throntodor: Bows and tools are right at where you spawned at. Swords and potions can be found in each of the shrines.

Where are the tools?

Picks and shovels can be found near the quarry, axes are near the sawmills.

I don’t know where either of those are at!

Explore the map, Jimmy!(Nolrim: Quarry’s in a cave to the front and left of the statues right outside the keep.)(Frosthold: Sawmills and axes are inside the forests to the right of the forward wall.)(Throntodor: Quarry’s to the left of the forward wall. Follow the road.)(Valley: Both are just outside the keep entrance.)

How do you make arrows?

Left click once with your bow and stand still for half a second.

How do you make torches?

Chop down some wood, saw it into planks, saw planks into sticks.

Right click the sticks on glue to make torches.

How do you make mortar?

Chop down some wood, saw it into planks, saw planks into sticks, saw sticks into bowls.

Right click the bows on glue to make mortar.

How do you make armor?

You can’t armor yourselves, Jimmys!

Mine gold in the quarry, take the gold nugget to a piston table, right click.

An unrefined block of gold is formed. Right click on it with your pick to refine it.

When it’s completely shiny, mine it out and you get dwarven armor.

Left click with it on an unarmored dwarf to armor them.

Why am I blind? / I can’t see anything!

Dwarves get blindness in the darkness. Place down or hold out a torch to see again.

Remember, certain monsters get buffs in the darkness, so make sure it’s bright around you!

Why is your name light blue?

We obtained titles. You get them by killing lots of monsters and getting on the leaderboards.

OMG ITS BRUCE/ROAMIN/NIS PLS I FAN CAN I HAVE AN AUTOGRAPH WAIT THIS IS MINECRAFT I CAN’T GET AN AUTOGRAPH HOW ABOUT A SCREENCAP LELELELELEL

That isn’t the real person. The game picks 3 random players to be heroes at the start of every round.

How do you become a hero? / What is a hero?

You get the chance to become a hero if you have the powerful rampage upgrade, and no coward points.

A hero is super powerful. You essentially carry the entire game.

If you become a hero, you must carry that burden.

A good hero is crucial to a good game of dvz; a bad hero COMPLETELY ruins it.

(So if you’re bad, don’t become a hero, cos we’ll shout at you for not doing your job right. =P)

What is a proc? / Woah green sparkles! / OMGKILLAURAHACKINGWTFONESHOT

A proc is a powerful rampage, of course.

It’s an upgrade you can buy that gives you Strength X when you kill one monster.

This allows you to kill multiple monsters with ease, as long as you manage to kill one.

You can see dwarves with the proc by its characteristic green sparkles.

You know when you have the proc by its characteristic roaring sound effect.

What are coward points?

You get coward points if you leave games early.

If you don’t see them on your profile page, you don’t have them.

OH GOD, what do I do as Bruce?

You have 3 items: Excaliju, Virendra, and the buffalo horn.

Excaliju is a very powerful sword; Virendra is a very powerful bow.

The horn gives EVERYONE a proc for 7 seconds, as well as a speed boost.

Make sure to save your horn for special monsters or to rescue a dwarf in trouble!

OH GOD, what do I do as Roamin?

You have 3 items: Holy Blade, Holy Purifier, and your Holy Water.

Holy Blade is essentially a regular dwarven runeblade.

Holy Water does an AOE heal. Use it to rescue dwarves in trouble.

Holy Purifier is a very powerful AOE weapon. Remember to recharge it with oil to keep it working.

OH GOD, what do I do as Nis?

You have 3 items: Tinder Flame, Wand, and your boots.

Try shifting. Your rocket boots will activate. Don’t fly into the mob spawn by accident though.

Tinder Flame is your sword, and also a gun with its right click.

Left clicking with your wand does random spells; right clicking gives everyone 30 extra hearts.

What do wrenches do?

Wrenches instantly repair all your armor when you left click.

Use it to repair quickly in a tough spot.

What does mortar do? / Why are the walls blue?

You can fill in the cracks in the cobble with mortar by left clicking.

(Blue bricks > stone bricks > cracked bricks > cobble.)

Your regular mortar makes bricks blue until night. Then, only super mortar turns the bricks blue.

What do lamps do?

They are an unbreakable light source, lasting 1 minute. Left click to place.

What do the slabs do?

They instantly create a wall in front of you. These are useful for building tunnels and to repair walls.

BLOCKING

Never, ever block off.

Dwarves need a path to retreat to safety, and if you block off, they can’t, and will die.

Blocking off also creates a pile of monsters that can be very dangerous once they break through.

So never, ever block off.
