Herb Campbell Community School Association Chair Report for 2014-2015 April 27, 2015 Thanks to this year's board of Directors and their teams of volunteers for their dedication and diligence in supporting the well-being of the school community. Once again we kicked off the school year with the all-time favourite fundraiser, Jazzy Jars. This is a fun activity that involves children from grades K to 8. We welcomed new and returning staff to the Herb Campbell Public School by serving up an Italian-themed homemade lunch for staff during one of their first PO days of the school year. With generosity in our hearts, our centerpieces of pasta and sauce were donated to Family Transition House. Our lunch program stepped it up a notch this year by providing a pizza lunch for students and staff every Friday for $.25 less per slice starting early 2015. The volunteers who make Pizza days happen are incredibly organized to serve up to so many hungry tummies each week. Bagel days were also increased to every Wednesday starting early 2015. Our volunteers continue to look for healthy and economic food options for the student body. On the topic of healthy food options, Fruit First also had a make-over this year and emerged under the student-named program, Fruit Plus. This new program offers healthy snack options for students each week. Lead by very dedicated volunteers, this program has children waiting with anticipation for the next snack of the week. And no other program creates greater anticipation than Breakfast with Santa. This annual event has been running for 29 years at Herb Campbell. It is a tradition we are most proud to continue offering to the community. Again, this couldn't happen without the amazing support of the community school volunteers, staff and students. Much of what the HCCSA strived to accomplish this year couldn't have happened without the support of the Administration and staff at Herb Campbell. The office and teaching staff handle the distribution and receipt of our lunch programs and special community activity forms. They are our voice when we are not present and gently remind students of upcoming snack and lunch days. The teachers also work with their students to create whimsical art projects for centerpieces and stage and wall decorations. We are grateful for their continued enthusiasm. The custodial staff works behind the scenes to beautify the school and creates a clean environment for everyone. They support the HCCSA with set up and clean up after our special events and meetings. And in a pinch they will lend a hand flipping pancakes too! And whenever we are in a sticky situation we can always rely on our school Principal, Mrs. Middlebrook, and Vice-Principal, Mme. Cournoyer-White to help us work toward a solution. Their can-do attitude and child- centred focus keep this community moving forward together for the greater gOOd. In closing, I'd like to thank the volunteers and Directors for all of the effort they put into the programs they support and/or manage. If they were employees they would be top performers who exceed expectations every week. These volunteers are a part of the school and they make students feel welcome. Students recognize their faces and the volunteers know many of the children by name. That recognition builds a sense of belonging and this is what creates a community. As Community School Association Chair, I am proud to stand beside this group of dedicated volunteers and I look forward to working together as a community to make 2015/16 even more successful. Sincerely, Kelly Noble Chair, Herb Campbell Community School Association

Thanks to this year's board of Directors and their teams of volunteers for their dedication and diligence insupporting the well-being of the school community.

Once again we kicked off the school year with the all-time favourite fundraiser, Jazzy Jars. This is a funactivity that involves children from grades K to 8.

We welcomed new and returning staff to the Herb Campbell Public School by serving up an Italian-themedhomemade lunch for staff during one of their first PO days of the school year. With generosity in our hearts, our centerpieces of pasta and sauce were donated to Family Transition House.

Community School Association Booking Report (2014-2015)

This year continued to be an almost fully booked school year. We had the return of our iong

standing rentals in the Snowy Owl Air Cadets as well as the Cheltenham Baptist Church

occupying our Tues. and Wed. nights. We also had two new rentals for the year. The first wasthe Peel Selects Volleyball team on Thurs. nights and the Bolton Wanderers 2001 Boys Soccer

team on Mon. nights. We did well for the weather having only 2 snow days (Dec. 11/14 & Feb.

2/15). We had to cancel permits for 4 nights for school use (Open House, musical, and pastanight). We also had the gym used for 2 other functions which generated no revenue (Region ofPeel and a Board member function).

Moving forward, we hope to continue with our long standing renters and we have also hac

Popcorn Report 2014/2015

Popcorn started up shortly after the school year began in October of 2014 with the help of my lovely assistant DianeSteer. We are still selling the same 4 flavours of popcorn (butter and salt, white cheddar, dill pickle and kettle corn)every Thursday during second nutrition break and the students were purchasing approximately 40-60 bags per week.We decided to help boost sales we would put a popcorn reminder in the announcements, after a bit of confusion andour announcement not being read we enlisted the help of Emmalyn Smith. Emmalyn and a few of Mrs. Sutherland gradeseven students read a popcorn reminder during the announcements every Wednesday and Thursday mornings, with thereminder we have noticed that popcorn sales almost double. We had a bit of trouble with popcorn going missing whilebeing stored in the storage closet, unsure of who exactly was taking the popcorn we reported the issue to TinaMiddlebrook. Tina informed the staff about the issue and with us also taping the boxes shut and putting a count of howmany bags are left in each box we have had no recent popcorn theft. The children are always very excited, polite andrelatively quiet while waiting in line and we have had no complaints about the popcorn this year from anyone. I'mlooking forward to another successful popcorn season next year!!!Thank youDevon Johnston

Annual Report for Fruit Plus

This report covers the period of April 1 2014 to March 31 2015, the fiscal year ofthe HCCSA.

Activity Details: Fruit First is a snack program that runs for nine weeks during allthree school terms. It offers both students and staff a variety of creative snacksthroughout the year! Some favourites over the course of the year were: PumpkinCookies, Fresh Berry Parfait with Homemade Granola, Apple Crisp and our holidaytreats which included a Christmas/Holiday BrownieTree with Pretzel Stem andEaster/Holiday Rice Krispie Nest with Chocolate Robins Eggs.

What's new for Fiscal 2015?:

• The introduction of our new program name - Fruit +.

• The option to pre-pay $25 for the entire year.

Student/Community Involvement & Participation: This is our highest enrolmentyear to date. We currently have just under 400 students participating in theprogram. We also have the highest number of teacher participants this year. Ibelieve this is largely due to a couple of things:

• The option to pre-pay for the year.

• The great quality and variety of snacks produced each term.

Benefits of the Activity: The Fruit + program is a profitable program (weraised approximately $8,866.85) which contributes to the funding ofextracurricular school programs. It offers the students and teachers anadditional snack on Tuesdays. I personally believe that the program boostsschool moral as students/teachers look forward to seeing what the snack willbe for each week!

General Comments: Although the introduction of pre-paying the full year was asuccess we are also noticing that parents are not keeping good track of their ownrecords and are often sending in duplicate payments for the program. This justmakes unnecessary work for us when we are counting during subsequent terms. Wedo make a point of highlighting on the class lists which students should be takingthe new forms home however, I'm not sure how to avoid this confusion in thefuture.

Finances:

· Term 1: Approximately $6,056.35

· Term 2: Approximately $1,480.25

· Term 3: Approximately $1,330.25

Total Revenues: Approximately $8,866.85

Expenses as of April 25, 2015: $2,315.86

***Revenues for 2014 were: Approximately $8,029.45***

Jazzy Jar Report 2014

Another successful year for our term 1 fundraiser. The jazzy jar

fundraiser took place October 1 during the day and evening of

the school's open house/meet the teacher night.

A note was sent home the week before to families to

encourage them to bring in jars filled with items. We received

over 200 jars which were filled with various items, candy, small

toys, gift cards, craft items, stickers, hair items. The variety of

jars was great and people were very creative in putting them

together.

The jars were set up in the small gym and students were able to

visit and buy tickets during the day. There was a schedule in

place which worked well and allowed all the classes to visit.

Tickets were also available for purchasing during the open

house. We sold the tickets for 5 for $1.00. The tickets were put

into groups of 5 before the event which helped alot because it

was very busy during the event.

To make this fundraiser run smoothly several volunteers are

needed to help with ticket sales, the labelling of the jars, and

the sorting of the winning jars into classes. During the day

volunteered were scheduled for 2 hour shifts and at night

Page 10: Herb Campbell Community School Association Chair Report ... · Chair Report for2014-2015 April 27,2015 Thanks to this year's board of Directors and their teams of volunteers for their

people signed up for shorter shifts which allowed them to visittheir children's classrooms.

There was an announcement made to inform people that jazzy

jar sells were ending and the doors would be closing. The doors

closed by 7:45 and the drawing of the names began. All winning

jars were delivered to the classrooms and would be given out

the next day by the teachers. This system worked well and

avoided having families waiting around to see if they had won.

This fundraiser was a huge success and we raised $1852.81

which will be used to support programs at Herb Campbell.

the event. A number of past students helped out and were excited to be back at He. This year we will

be celebrating our so" anniversary of BWS. We need to get feedback on how we can make this BWSextra special.
