VICENTE PERCHES STORY We discovered at our 22 week gender ultrasound that Vicente had an undiagnosed skeletal dysplasia. Our son was showing signs of shortened and bowed long bones of the arms and legs, despite the presence of any genetic abnormalities in either of our families. We were referred to a perinatologist in Springfield and to the Fetal Medicine Care Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital/Washington University for further consultation, amniocentesis, and genetic testing. We spent 5 weeks waiting and mourning over the several potential diagnosis thrown our way, unsure if our son would survive the pregnancy and birth or what kind of life he would have, if the diagnosis proved non-fatal. However, we continued to make trips to St. Louis to see specialists every three weeks, to have fetal CT scans and advanced ultrasounds while having follow-up visits with the perinatologist and OBGYN in Springfield. It was confirmed that our baby boy had the gene for Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) type V, or brittle bone disease, which predisposes children to fractures. Vicente decided to come into this world early at 36 weeks and 5 days with three healing fractures sustained in utero. He spent a week in the NICU at CoxHealth, where his breathing and pain control was monitored; he is now over a year old and is so far thriving. He has suffered 5 fractures to date that we are aware of. He receives his pamidronate infusion to increase the density of his bones every 8 weeks, participates in water therapy weekly to help meet his developmental milestones, has physical therapy with First Steps monthly, and will go to the OI clinic in Omaha yearly. He has had a hernia repair surgery and a port placement thus far. He is also a candidate for future rodding surgeries in his legs and arms as he becomes more mobile, which may allow him be to bear weight on his legs. We are not exactly sure what the future holds. Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals has already made such an impact in our family’s lives, by providing funding for Vicente’s NICU stay, hernia repair surgery, mobility rider, and therapy sessions. TOY DRIVE BENEFITS HOSPITALIZED KIDSThe holiday can quickly get gloomy for anyone when they have to spend the season at the hospital but with the generous intervention of The Missouri State Highway Patrol who made special toy deliveries, in honor of Corporal John A. “Jay” Sampietro Jr., hospitalized kids at CoxHealth found a little reason to smile and play. The toys delivered were collected during the 11th Annual Toy Drive for hospitalized kids at CoxHealth, thanks to the MSHP, Krispy Kreme, and many generous donors!

Additionally, Walgreens made a special toy delivery to our hospitalized kids at CoxHealth as well. This was made successful due to more generous donors who participated in the Walgreens Toy Drive as well as our Ozarks Area Walgreens team. Thank you!

VICENTE PERCHES STORYWe discovered at our 22 week gender ultrasound that Vicente had an undiagnosed skeletal dysplasia.

Vicente is such a happy, good natured, smiley little boy. He loves being read to, bath time, music, and his water therapy!

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals has already made such an impact in our family’s lives, by providing funding for Vicente’s NICU stay, hernia repair surgery, mobility rider, and therapy sessions. We have also received help with travel and lodging expenses for his Osteogenesis Imperfecta Clinic appointments and treatments in Omaha, NE.

TOGETHER, HOW WE DID IN 2017.Thanks to our amazing donors who continue to support the ever growing need of sick and injured children in our community, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at CoxHealth is pleased to announce that $1,932,604 was generated in 2017! Being able to serve thousands of local kids with medical needs is such an honor for us at CMN Hospitals and we consider the commitment, heart, and support of the community a privilege. Because of our supporters, these children experience miracles daily and because you give, they have a chance at a normal life. We certainly look forward to being able to make more miracles in 2018. Special thanks to our CMN Hospitals supporters!

CELEBRATING 30 YEARS WITH WALMART & SAM’S CLUB PARTNERSHIPDuring the 2017 Walmart/Sam’s Club Campaign, stores celebrated a 30-year partnership with CMN Hospitals by getting creative with their fundraising strategies. In addition to asking customers for donations at checkout, stores hosted chili cook-offs, bake sales, auctions, and carnivals to raise money for CMN Hospitals at CoxHealth. In this picture, over 100 Walmart and Sam’s Club associates gather in fun garb to celebrate the campaign’s kickoff. More than $416,000 was raised for local kids throughout the year.
