College Goal Sunday November 5, 2017 at Ivy Tech Community College 2pm The free program assists Indiana students in filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA

form is required for students to be considered for federal and state grants, scholarships and student loans at most

colleges, universities and vocational/technical schools nationwide. The FAFSA MUST be filed by March 10 to be eligible

for Indiana financial aid. College Goal Sunday is so important since completing this required form correctly and by the

deadline is sometimes perceived to be complicated and time consuming. In less than one afternoon at a College Goal

Sunday event, students and their families can get free help and file the form online.

What students should bring: Students should attend College Goal Sunday with their parent(s) or guardian(s), and

parents’ should bring completed 2016 IRS 1040 tax returns, W-2 Forms and other 2016 income and benefits

information. Students who worked last year should bring their income information as well. Students 24 years of age or

older may attend alone and bring their own completed 2016 IRS 1040 tax return, W-2 Form or other 2016 income and

benefits information. Students and parents are encouraged to apply for their U.S. Department of Education FSA IDs at

fsaid.ed.gov before coming to the event.

Class of 2018 Senior to do list – October/November

Schedule College visits!

If you are an athlete and want to play sports in college, work with your high school coach to make contacts with specific colleges and universities. In August you need to apply to the NCAA clearinghouse at www.eligibilitycenter.net if you are planning on playing Division I or II. NAIA registration can be completed at http://www.playnaia.org/USHighSchool

Are you a 21st Century Scholar? Have you completed the online requirement?

Did you know the University of Cincinnati has a tuition reciprocity agreement with Allen County? Allen county residents pay Ohio in state tuition for all programs except Nursing and Pharmacy. That’s right you pay $11,000 per year tuition instead of $26,334!! Well worth a college visit.

The FAFSA opens October 1st! Make plans to visit the college campuses on your list or to shadow someone in a career that you are interested

in pursuing.

Prepare early decision, early action, or rolling admission applications

Complete the CSS/Financial Aid Profile if required

Use the internet to continue to research colleges and narrow your college choices. Great websites include: www.learnmoreindiana.org; www.collegeboard.com;

www.petersons.com; www.bls.gov/oco/

Work on completing applications and submitting them by November 1st if you have your SAT or ACT scores.

If you have not taken the SAT or ACT, refer to dates and deadlines listed above. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!! Check with Mrs. Hunter if your school of choice requires the test.

Continue to stop by the guidance office to look at the “Scholarship Wall” and ask questions. Remember that scholarships are also posted on the HHS website. It is your responsibility to find scholarships and plan financially to pay for college.

Have your parents complete a “college costs forecaster” to find out how much financial aid you might be eligible

for. Parents can complete a 4caster form on www.fafsa.ed.gov. Start work on your FAFSA form and compile tax information. It must be received by April 15, 2018 (new state

deadline)but the earlier you submit, the sooner you will learn your projected aid for your chosen schools. Without submitting this form, you will not be eligible for state or federal grant money or loans. You must file online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Keep a copy for your records.

Do not miss early decision application deadlines

Complete college applications!! Make Thanksgiving break your deadline. Make sure to request a transcript from Mrs. Berning or Mrs. Hunter or through parchment.

Continue to check the “Scholarship Wall” and newsletter If you have not done so, schedule a college visit or job shadow
