Meet Synne & Jacopo

This fall, two new students joined the Panthers as foreign exchange students. Welcome Synne Forsland, from Norway and Jacopo Wu from Italy! Synne is from Necodden and chose to come to Hershey to experience a new culture. She noted that one of the differences from her education in Norway is the class schedule. In her native land, one group of students receives their classes together in one main classroom instead of numerous different classes. Synne is hoping to visit as much of the United States as possible during her time here and is looking forward to how Thanksgiving, Halloween, and Christmas are celebrated. Her parents are Catherine, who works as an insurance adjuster and Jarl who is a CEO for an electrical contracting company.

Jacopo's home is in Frosinone,Italy, where his mother, Cuili Sunand father, Yunguang Wu live. Hisfamily origins are in Japan. Jacopo is interested in learningabout life in the United States andhopes he will improve his abilities inspeaking and writing English. The most notable differencethat Jacopo noticed about schoolin American culture is theemphasis in sport and competition..Compared with his experience inItaly, he finds that in America, theculture is much more focused onsports at many different levels. InItaly, he has participated in clubsports programs. He said that he likes thefriendliness of all of the people hehas met since arriving lastsummer. Jacopo hopes to visit MountRushmore in South Dakota. His interests and hobbies includebasketball and Marvel Comicmovies.

The troupe of four actors portrayed avariety of situtations that they described astypical, yet unique to many students. Thegroup emphasized the importance ofidentifying different aspects of bullying thatcan happen at school and showed the impactthat it has both physically and emotionally onthe victim. From their performances andpresentations, the group's goal was to

provide the students and staff with a better awareness of bullying. After the presentations, the group and several faculty fielded questions from the audience to provide answers to different situations they have experienced. The group also invited several volunteer students from the assembly to participate in role playing scenes in which they could show how to deal with bullying.
