„Frankfurt Customs“ is the in-house customi-zing department of Harley-Factory Frankfurt and – following the „Coffee Racer“ Sportster of 2012 and the 2013 „Silver Star“ Bagger – has now delivered their third „Bolt On and Ride“ custombike in three consecutive years. Resulting in a 122 hp / 111 Nm beast that has been upgraded with a full set of RevTech „Supercharger“ Midnight Series wheels and RST fork components, just as V-Rod riders like it: Fat, fatter, V-Rod fat! The rear 250/40-18 Avon tire is planted onto a massive 8.50 x 18’’ RevTech „Supercharger“ wheel, the „Midnight Series“ designator indicates the anodized version that has then been CNC‘d over again to achive the bi-colour look that make the wheels so eyecatching. At the front end, the RST-full cover black „contrast cut“

fork plays pretty much the same game, with a 3.00 x 19’’ RevTech „Supercharger“ Midnight Series wheel in command. The RST compo-nents include new triple-trees and covers, while the stock fork itself is retained. The „Su-percharger“ wheel design is especially fitting for the V-Rod, as the 8-spoke look appears like fanblades of a jet engine or scythes that cut through the air at speed. 14In Europe, the V-Rod has created a new breed of riders that probably otherwise would not have taken seat on any of the „normal“ Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Introduced in 2001, the V-Rod marked Harley-Davidson‘s boldest attempt to es-tablish a 21st century motorcycle outside the established „image“ of the 45° air-cooled V-Twin. Custom Chrome Europe had been distri-buting parts for the V-Rod and its offsprings as early as 2004, but apart from several German spe-cialists that often produced their own parts on a small scale, the V-Rod never became a major „icon“ of the independent customizing scene. But after 13 years of model history – and numerous authorised European Harley-Dealers that have accepted and welcomed the V-Rod as motorcycle to be individualized to customers request, Custom Chrome Europe is increasing its efforts on this field. Consequently, Harley-Factory Frankfurt has crea-ted a brain-blasting power bike that stands for everything the V-Rod is popular for: Power and style!

N N NAs on most custom V-Rods, a Legend Air air-ride lifts and lowers the bike from parking to riding position and back, the compressor well hidden under the bodywork of Rohrbach/Austria based „CultWerk“, who have been in-tegrated into the growing V-Rod segment of

TOP: Frame and swingarm remained stock, but the Legend Air Suspension can lower the silhouette when the bike is in parking position. Except for the watercooler housing, all bodyparts are exchanged for „CultWerk“ V-Rod bodyparts from Austria.

the 2014 CCE parts range. „Cult Werk“ parts include fenders, „tank“ (well rather airfilter) cover, “Race” seat, rear and forward sidepa-nels plus the nice rear axle nut cover at the swingarm, all of which are optimized for air-flow and compact „cut-off“ look. The „airfilter cover“ integrates the speedo into the body-work, as popular with most V-Rod riders.

Another Austrian component, manufactured not too far away from Rohrbach, are the BSL „Muscle Bomb“ pipes, combined with the „Bomb“ exhaust by Bike Shop Linz. Which leads from the superficial impressions of the „Brainblaster“ to the hidden values inside the surprisingly stock motor. All the internal com-ponents of the watercooled 1.247 ccm VR-SCDX motor remain UNTOUCHED. Only a

ThunderMax module was added to the stock V-Rod fuel injection and a K&N airfilter looms under the CultWerk airfilter cover. Superchar-ger? Turbo-boost? Compare the costs with those of the little black ThunderMax box and reflect how often you want to spread out your body against the wind at more than 200 km/h – if you happen to live in Germany and next to an unrestricted stretch of Autobahn anyway.

N N N Additional components to convert the „Night Rod“ into a street-racer were Joker Machine “900” risers, a wide Chubby “Street Fighter” handlebar with Joker Machine “Viewtech” mirrors and Rick‘s “Good Guys” adjustable levers. Forward controls are Ness “Bevelled”. Electrics remained close to stock configurati-on with the rod-defining (and also popular cu-stom accessory for other HD-projects) head-light retained and painted and Kodlin “Stripe” indicators at the front, while the Kellermann “Rombus” dark at the rear serve both as in-dicators and taillight. Painting the „Brainbla-ster“ to the specifications of Alex Sluyter of Frankfurt Customs was the task of Oliver Paas from Oliver Paint, lighting up the sini-ster matt black with just the right amount of graphics to catch the eye, working perfectly with the RevTech „Midnight Series“ and RST „Contrast Cut“ parts. Hardly can say it diffe-rently, but lift-up the airsuspension, push the starting button and: Hey-ho, let´s Go! This is one hot performing Night-Rod...

The upgrade in style was supported by a slight upgrade in power, but engine and drivetrain remained basically stock. RIGHT TOP: At first, RevTech „Supercharger“ wheels and fitting brake rotors were mounted. Teraining the stock brake calipers is possible, lowering costs. The „Midnight Series“ wheel design is a great addition to the black engine surface with cut and polished cylinder ribs. RIGHT BOTTOM: The stock intrument panel will be re-located into the „CultWerk“ air filter cover, the stock bar replaced by a slightly higher Chubby „Streetfighter“ bar.PO

INFO: Harley-Davidson FactoryFrankfurt am Main is not just in the center of Germany and Europe, the Harley-Factory ranges among the best-selling German dealerships and the shop sure tops the size of any other European dealership. It is located in former production halls of Naxos. As part of Matthias Korte’s dealerships, Thomas Trapp and Matthias Maier operate the dealership which also offers „Rado‘s Speed Shop“ as „in-house“ custom shop. The shop houses parts of Korte’s amazing collection of historic Harley-Davidson’s and also parts of Thomas Trapp‘s bikes he takes out to still existing German Boardtracks occassionally.
